Does being a journeyman hurt your chances of the HoF?

No ... they're going to let him in because if they didn't let him in because of roids, they wouldn't be able to let anyone in from this era. Since presumably everyone was doing it, it wasn't really that much of an advantage.

OK...why isn't Mark McGwire in the hall yet? A-Rod is going to have an extremely difficult time getting in. Yes, there should be an * for that whole era, but then you got guys who (presumedly) played the game the right way like Jim Thome who shouldn't be viewed in the same regard as Bonds, Sosa, A-Rod, etc...

Because Mark McGwire actually was a borderline candidate even before the roids came out. All he did was hit dingers in an era when dingers were easy to come by. .263 average, barely in the top 500 in career hits (only 1600), barely in the top 200 in runs, mediocre in the field, etc. He would have gotten in eventually, probably. But he wasn't so dominant that keeping him out would be silly.

A-Rod, on the other hand, hit homers like McGwire but outshadowed him in every other aspect of the game - hitting, fielding and baserunning. As did Bonds.

Sosa is another McGwire, and you are right, he won't sniff the Hall.

ps: Thome probably juiced too. We will never know.
