2011 Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame nominees announced

OK, so I'm looking at the list and wondering who Erik B and Rakim are and thinking "Gee, I love Rock and Roll and I've never heard of these guys. They're being nominated for the hall of fame, what am I missing?" So I Google them and see that they are a hip-hop duo. That explains it. Why are hip-hop artists nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, what there's no Hip-Hop Hall of Fame? Why don't they just rename it the Popular Music Hall of Fame, after all it seems the only artists not nominated are represent country, classical or easy listening.

BTW Donna Summer and any other disco artist should be permanently banned from the RnR Hall of Fame. Even Rod Stewart should have an asterisk by his name for that embarrassing disco **** he put out in the late 70s. No Rod, I do not think you're sexy, and I barely forgive you for whoring yourself out by jumping on the disco wave and playing that crapola.

I would like to see Joan Jett and Heart get in. Heart really deserves it. I don't think Joan Jett gets in this time.

Just getting ready to say the same thing. Outside of Chicago, Bad Company and Rush - Heart is the most deserving. I love me some WAR (they ae being royally ****ed by their old business manager. It's the saddest story that you don't know) and the Faces.

The only reason people hated disco in the '70s was because it was synonymous with gay culture. It's just dance music.

I have about 147 reasons why I hated disco, and gay culture was not one of them.

About 45 of those reasons are probably documented in here:

In fact, if gay culture were that "synonymous" with disco, the fashion sense would have been 10 times better.

Actually I think Saturday Night Fever had a lot to do with it. I don't think it was the gay thing. Also remember that in the 70's, it was more rock n roll bands that would lead the death to disco movement.

Black Sabbath

Zepp

Bands like that and either you were on one side of the fence or the other. There was very little middle ground.

Disco was fun and stupid. The seething hatred toward it by "rock purists" was even funnier and stupider.

And yeah, that is not the most inspiring collection of candidates.

I'd probably vote for some combination of RHCP, The Cure, GnR, Heart, the Beasties, Donna Summer and Joan Jett. Each of them was influential or groundbreaking and can make a decent argument to be there.

Faces doesn't need to go in since Rod Stewart is already there.

Donovan was short-lived hippy fluff.

Eric B & Rakim are about the 100th most influential hiphoppers.

Freddy King was only about the 5th most talented guy named "King" in the blues.

Laura Nyro was whiny

I love Rufus and Chaka, but they weren't that huge

Spinners are better in porn than in rock

War was ok, but whatever

KISS and Rush should be in already, of course.

Rakim alone makes then a top 10 influential hip-hop group but okay.

Forget the late 70s Rod Stewart.

At heart, Stewart is a bluesman and definitely belongs in the Hall.

Why?

:secret: No one thinks they should go in for their music.

I would be okay with Kiss before Rush. I hate Rush as much as you hate Seger.

Kiss is clearly extremely important to rock history, but they were just sooooooooo awful. If you measure these acts on two scales (importance and talent), you will never have a group that maxes out both of them in the opposite direction.

The best Kiss album ever, by the way, is a bootleg I have of all of Paul Stanley's in between song chatter. You can find large pices of it on youtube.

Let me first say Bob Seger is in the Hall of Fame and Kiss is not.

Since this is a recognition of one's accomplishments in the field of music, I would say Kiss should not be in (and apparently the voters agree with me) because their music is not good. Their marketing however is fantastic. I would venture to say Kiss is the Dan Snyder of the music world. Kiss lunch boxes, Kiss coffins, Kiss comic books - no one knows how to bilk a fan base like these guys.

At least this is funny

If this seems familiar, we've been here before.
