Hal2856
If we do this he could be a receiver out of the back field, also all I hear is how great he is as a blocker. Could you imagine Cooley catching the ball the way Sellers did last year. Him and Fred on the field together? Just seems like a good idea.
BRAVEONAWARPATH
There isn't an H-Back position (as far as I know) in Shanny's offense and Cooley isn't a fullback. He doesn't block nearly well enough to play that position. Chris, at this point, is the backup TE.
kevinklein
They will be on the field plenty this year. Chris is coming back from an injury, and Davis's play has allowed him the privilege of not rushing it. Two TE sets will be, and are, a big part of this offense. Hal2856
Maybe just line Cooley up at FB for plays they want to use him as a pass catcher, although that would probably make it too obvious what we anted to do. Oh well, like I said, just a thought.
NeckBone
Why don't we just put him in at QB, LB, and P?
pez
I actually see Cooley having a big game this monday using two TE sets, as I believe Dallas will attempt to shut Davis down.

I could see that...or Moss. If they bracket Davis someone else should be open! It would be nice to see a huge game from someone (the way Moss has done over the years). As I said in another thread: I don't see Chris having a big game due primarily to his health.
Thatturkishguy
Yeah I think they try and shut down Davis this game. Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong will benefit.
Brotherz
I'd leave Chris where he is at TE, but I would strongly consider making Fred our #1WR, moving Santana to the slot. When I see Davis catching a ball now, i can't even tell he is a tight end. He looks like a bigger WR. Why the hell not right? We are all asking about whether Cooley is a gonner. Last I checked, he is a pro bowl caliber tight end. I'd find ways to keep him that way and Fred got his ass so into shape, that I actually think a position change could be in order FOR HIM not Cooley. Riggo-toni
H back is a Gibbs invention within the Air Coryell system. There is no such position in the WCO. 2 TE sets is the way to go - just ask the Pats. What's more, that's the only way we could beat the secondary rich LB poor Eagles. Radar
Why don't we just put him in at QB, LB, and P? Actually, at one time (under Gibbs, maybe) I think Captain Chaos was listed as the backup punter on our depth chart!

gaskinsfan
Davis is one of those TE that have breakaway speed and cannot be covered by most LB's. That coupled with either Hightower and especially Helu coming out of the backfield cause big matchup problems for the boys this week. Cooley is a great backup at this point. elkabong82
Unless you can explain how an H-back would work in a WCO, then there is no point to this thread other than some random musing that wasn't thought out. Now, if the argument showed the mismatches it could create in the backfield, and again how it could be effectively used in a WCO, then THAT would be an excellent thread and a great topic to discuss. But H-back is from the Coryell system, it is not used in a WCO, but, as already pointed out, a 2 TE set is, which we are using more of and I imagine we will keep increasing its use as Cooley gets healthier too. Slateman
Honestly if he's still playing as poorly/hurt in the Dallas game as the previous games, they should bench him until after the bye

Best Team Ever
When i saw Cooley lining up i thought about remembered this thread and how you got blasted a little bit for this thought...People forget that these are world class athletes and some positions can be pretty interchangeable. You definitely called that one OP, that was a nice little wrinkle early in the game and got Cooley open on a few passes down field. I do however think we could have run a little more power running game in 2nd half with Sellers in there but of course hind site is 20/20.
