Joe Walsh Meltdown: Screams At Constituents, 'Don't Blame Banks'

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) met with some constituents in the Chicago suburb of Gurnee Sunday -- and apparently didn't like what some of them had to say about the role of big banks in the financial collapse.

The "Cup of Joe with Joe Walsh" event was held at an UNO Bar & Grill in the northern suburb, and "a number of topics were discussed," according to Round Lake Area News. But, as ThinkProgress reported Tuesday, Walsh did not like when the conversation turned to big banks and their power within government. (Watch the conversation above)

After one attendee grilled Walsh about the lack of regulation which ultimately allowed banks to bet against their own customers, another pointed out the presence of bank lobbyists in Congress and other financial regulatory agencies.

Walsh cut off the man, and screamed at him: "Don't blame the banks ... that pisses me off" before telling the calm constituent that he was going to ask him to leave if he didn't stop talking.

Judge scolds Rep. Joe Walsh, orders him to prove he doesn’t owe back child-support

By ABDON M. PALLASCHPolitical Reporter/apallasch@suntimes.com

A judge in Chicago issued a preliminary ruling Wednesday against U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) in the Tea Party favorite’s child-support dispute with his ex-wife, ordering Walsh to explain why he appears to be $100,000 behind on his child-support payments.

Cook County Circuit Judge Raul Vega also wanted to know why Walsh wasn’t in court for the hearing — the McHenry Republican’s ex-wife, Laura Walsh was — and said he expects him to show up at the next hearing, in November.

Walsh’s new attorney, Janet Boyle, asked Vega “for what purpose” he wanted the congressman in court.

Vega gave her a puzzled look.

To which Boyle responded: “Mr. Walsh is a U.S. congressman.”

“Well, he’s no different than anyone else,” the judge said.

Ultimately, Laura Walsh’s attorney said the congressman probably wouldn’t have to come to court for the next hearing, after all.

Still, Vega said he was going to issue a “rule to show cause” why Walsh shouldn’t be held in contempt of court for falling behind, according to his ex-wife, by $100,000 in his child support over the past five years.

The effect of that ruling is that, instead of Laura Walsh having to prove that the congressman owes the money, now the burden shifts to the congressman to prove that he doesn’t owe money, according to attorneys for both Walshes.

Laura Walsh said her husband started making half-payments years ago and then making no payments at all, claiming he had no money.

Last year, when she saw he had made a $35,000 contribution to his own congressional campaign, Laura Walsh said she became suspicious about his “no money” claims and had her attorney file the motion that Judge Vega granted on Wednesday.

In less than a year in Congress, the telegenic, silver-haired freshman has catapulted to the top of the cable television short-list, offering pithy anti-Obama soundbites, often criticizing the Obama administration for fiscal irresponsibility.

After Wednesday’s court hearing, Laura Walsh spoke about having to shoulder the financial burden of three children — two of them now adults — on her own for the last several years.

“It’s been extremely difficult,” she said. “We get through one day at a time.”

Laura Walsh — who works as a public policy analyst for the pharmaceuticals giant Eli Lilly and Co. — said the issue before the court is straightforward: “It’s child support. Either he paid it, or he didn’t. I’m certainly pleased with the ruling today.”

Boyle said she most likely wouldn’t proceed with a motion Laura Walsh’s attorney, Jack Coladarci, had termed “harassing,” which asked Eli Lilly for Laura Walsh’s salary history and other documents.

“That may eliminate some of the contentiousness going on,” Boyle said.

Vega stayed the subpoena to Eli Lilly.

Rep. Walsh hired Boyle recently after a private session a few weeks ago in which attorneys for both sides were unable to reach a settlement.

Laura Walsh has gone into court on numerous occasions since filing for divorce in 2002, seeking court orders to have her ex-husband meet his court-ordered child-support obligations.

Seems like the guy is corrupt to the core

I always find it somewhat affirming to see people who hold dubious/immoral stances in their public lives also have dysfunctional personal lives. It seems to support the idea that being a good person is its own reward, and being a bad person is its own punishment.

Well, looking at the first article, if this is a Tea Party favorite, then I can see why they like Herman Cain.

Have to confess, I came into this thread reading the title, and expecting to have a problem with the judge.

I was expecting to point out to His Honor that in America, courts prove that people are guilty, they don't demand that the accused prove his innocence.

But after thinking about it, it does occur to me that it would be kind of tough to demand that his ex prove that he hasn't paid child support, since it's really hard to prove a negative. After thinking about it, it occurs to me that something like this is probably SOP when someone claims to have not been paid. I assume that the plaintiff can't prove lack of payment, so they ask defendant if he can prove that he did pay.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/04/rep-joe-walsh-gets-pro-family-award-despite-owing-117k-in-child-support/

The Family Research Council Action Committee has lauded freshman Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) for his “unwavering support of the family,” despite the fact that Walsh’s ex-wife claims he owes her more than $100,000 in child support payments.

The FRCA named Walsh a “True Blue” member of Congress, saying that his commitment to anti-abortion causes and his for voting record in support of, “faith, family and freedom,” were worthy of admiration.

“Cong. Walsh and other ‘True Blue Members’ have voted to repeal Obamacare, de-fund Planned Parenthood, end government funding for abortion within the health care law, uphold the Defense of Marriage Act, and continue support for school choice,” said FRCA President Tony Perkins

Joe Walsh: Veterans In Occupy Movement 'Don't Understand This Country'

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) slammed Occupy Wall Street protesters during a town hall meeting in suburban Gurnee, Ill. Saturday, calling the movement a "well-orchestrated, well-funded, far left effort to disrupt the American people" before admitting that he had never attended a protest.

Walsh, a Tea Party favorite who apologized last week after screaming at a constituent during a similar event, was reacting to constituent criticism of the Occupy movement when he let them know how he felt about it.

"[Occupy is] an anti-American, well-funded left wing effort," Walsh told the crowd, to a mix of applause and boos. He also said the movement was created to "rile up Obama's left base."

From what he could tell, Walsh said, Occupy protesters are "generally spoiled, pampered, unfocused, clueless young people and a smattering of other people who don’t understand this country and are advocating anti-American solutions."

When one constituent stood up and pointed out that veterans have participated in the Occupy movement, Walsh brushed it off.

"I don't know how many veterans are part of the Occupy protest," he said. "I can't imagine it's many. But anyone who would advocate socialist solutions to certain problems in this country ... they don't understand this country."

He goes nuts about Washington and spending.....meanwhile he "allegedly" is a deadbeat Dad who was giving him own campaign money over his kids.

He goes nuts on constituents who question the roles of banks and bigger institutions in the 2008 collapse

He goes nuts on Veterans who fought in part to keep the rights to protest...for protesting, being unamerican and not understanding this country.

I strong dislike this guy and hope he loses his next election badly.

Joe Walsh: Tammy Duckworth A 'Wounded Veteran -- What Else Has She Done?'

“I have so much respect for what she did in the fact that she sacrificed her body for this country,” said Walsh, simultaneously lowering his voice as he leaned forward before pausing for dramatic effect. “Ehhh. Now let’s move on.”

“What else has she done? Female, wounded veteran … ehhh,” he continued. “She is nothing more than a handpicked Washington bureaucrat. David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel just picked her up and dropped her into this district.”

I only quoted HIS quote on this. Continues to be a jerk.

Joe Walsh taking heat for remarks on opponent’s military service

llinois Republican Rep. Joe Walsh is in the spotlight — again — for a controversial statement, this time regarding Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth, the woman against whom he is running a long-shot general election bid this fall.

Video was circulating the Web on Tuesday of Walsh questioning the motives of Duckworth, who lost both legs in a helicopter accident while serving in Iraq in 2004.

In his remarks, Walsh referenced Arizona Sen. John McCain — and his reluctance to talk about his imprisonment in Vietnam in his presidential campaigns — as an ideal to which Duckworth should aspire.

“Finally he talked a little about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him,” Walsh said. “That’s what’s so noble about our heroes. Now I’m running against a woman who — I mean, my God — that’s all she talks about.”

Joe Walsh Child Support: Ex-Tea Party Rep Says He Can't Afford Payments Post-Congress

During his unsuccessful campaign to be reelected to Congress, outspoken former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh could never quite live down the label of "deadbeat dad" -- and on Monday, the issue of his child support payments resurfaced yet again.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported late Monday afternoon that Walsh, a Tea Party Republican favorite who represented Illinois' 8th District, filed a request on Feb. 1 in Cook County Circuit Court to drastically reduce his child support obligation due to his employment being "terminated through no voluntary act of his own."

In the filing, according to the Sun-Times, Walsh's attorneys claimed the ex-congressman does not have adequate income with which to make payments such as the $2,134 payment his former wife Laura Walsh's attorney claims he skipped last month.

The report going live and being almost immediately picked up by a number of political blogs prompted Walsh to lash out against Sun-Times reporter Natasha Korecki. On his website, he announced that he would be suing the newspaper

More from the link. Folks are lucky this guy doesn't represent them anymore. What a scumbag.
