Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the cable series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has died.

Manager Sam Maydew says Whitfield died Sunday of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in Sydney, Australia.

Whitfield's wife Vashti in a statement called her husband a "beautiful young warrior" who died on a "sunny Sydney morning" in the "arms of his loving wife."

I really enjoyed that series, he was great in that role.

Amazing that someone in that kind of peak physical condition could succumb like that. cancer sucks. :(

Yes, its supposed to debut early next year. They replaced Andy once it was clear his condition wasn't getting any better, its why they chose to do the 6 episode prequel earlier this year instead of going directly to season 2. Andy was perfect in the role of Spartacus though. It will be very hard to replace him.
