Man inflamed over amputated penis

A Kentucky man is suing after he went into hospital for a circumcision and left without a penis.

Phillip Seaton, 64, was supposed to have surgery in 2007 to treat inflammation, but Dr. John Patterson removed Seaton's penis because he said he found cancer during the procedure, reports ABC News.

Seaton is seeking damages for "loss of service, love and affection" to his wife. The trial got underway Monday in Shelbyville, Ky.

I can understand why the guy is in pieces. However, I think he's going off half-****ed. The doctor was probably doing what he thought best, although it's hard to tell given the tiny snippet of info in the article.

:ols: :notworthy

minor correction though, I think he was going off full-****ed

Sucks for the guy, but at age 64 the thing was probably nearing the end of its shelf-life. He'll get a couple million for this, which I think is a fair trade under these circumstances.

No way. There is no price or expiration date. The money won't fix the problem. How old is Hugh Hefner ??? Sign me up for meds first.

I couldn't put a price tag on my best friend. He always offers me good advice and I always listen to him. He just has this Viagra addiction but I don't think I want him to kick the habit just yet.

Wonder what the protocol is for unexpectedly finding cancer during a surgery? I would think that outside of the prospect of not removing it being life-threatening, you would sew it up, wake dude up and get him to sign a consent form before going all commando on it.

Want more details on this story? http://www.startribune.com/nation/128260373.html Second to last paragraph almost made me lose my lunch.

That certainly puts an interesting spin on the story. It's not like the doctor removed a healthy, normal looking penis. Still.... aren't there evaluations BEFORE surgery? The patient is obviously mentally unstable if he's living with a diseased-looking penis (according to how it was described in trial)... and doctor isn't on top of his game if he doesn't check it out before putting his patient under anesthesia.

I can't see the doctor winning this case.

Well, he lost his lawsuit (as well as his penis):

Ky. Jury Rules Against Penis Amputation Patient

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. — A jury on Wednesday ruled against a Kentucky truck driver who sued his urologist claiming the doctor amputated part of his penis without his consent.

The six-man, six-woman jury deliberated briefly before coming back with the verdict in the lawsuit filed by 64-year-old Phillip Seaton, and his wife, Deborah, in Shelby County Circuit Court.

The jury ruled unanimously against the claim that Dr. John Patterson of Frankfort had failed to exercise proper care. It ruled 10-2 against the claim that Seaton hadn't consented to the amputation.

In all the joking about the story I think we've lost sight of the tragic situation of the wife who will have to forgo the pleasures of a Kentucky truck driver's 64-year old badly cancerous and inflamed penis.

A little work and we have a new Hallmark "sorry for your loss" card.
