My jaw was unwired today.

It has been a long six weeks, but I pulled through it, with the help of friends and families. You guys helped, too, in those early days when it seemed very grim, and when the end seemed so very distant.

As you can imagine, after I visited the doctor's office this morning, it has been a remarkable day. My first solid meal was fantastic -- scrambled eggs, refried beans, and soysage. With toast. Chewing was a bit weird, but everything went down OK. The metal studs drilled into my gums still have to be removed, but that's alright, even if they are a bother: I didn't want my mouth all numbed up on the first day that I could eat normal food.

I lost about twenty pounds, so that's a nice upside to this whole affair, and I am in better physical and mental shape in spite of everything. I'm also playing chess again, filling the time I used to spend out and about, drinking at bars and such. I almost forgot how much I love the game.

And Burgold, yes, I still want to do the writer's group!

Life ain't too bad, even if I am a year older today.

Bac,

Take it easy on the solids. I had my jaw wired shut for only 12 days in the Spring of last year - and the first solids afterwards wreaked havoc on my stomache.

On the plus side, getting rid of the plastic feeding needle and not using the turbo blender for every meal was therapeutic. There is only so many fruit smoothies someone can have before they want to kill someone for fast food french fries. :ols:

Glad you're doing better, Bac. :beavisnbutthead:

Guess I'm going to have to be nice to ya for awhile instead of using you (especially calling out some right-wing whacko and they get all persecutey) as one of my examples of how I pick on pedantic lefty goofs too, . :pfft::ols:

:)

The blender is your best friend during that time. I had my jaw wired shut for 5 or 6 weeks and you start to blend some really weird things after a while. Soups and go-gurt type things only last you but so long before you start to go nuts.

Thanks, folks -- I appreciate the sentiments. Yes, eating blended food was so very tiresome -- I used a straw, and then a spoon, for most of the six weeks (the plastic and rubber injector was gross) -- and I basically lived on miso soup, protein shakes, and this incredibly good three-cheese soup for the last several weeks. If anyone ever wants to lose weigh, that is the diet to do it. There are still small metal studs in my mouth which is making chewing a bit of a painful task, so I have to be careful about what I eat until they are removed.

My jaw, BTW, for those who asked, was broken after I was jumped by a couple of dudes.

Have you spoken with the victim compensation department? Hope you were able to get your bills straightened out. They'll take care of you.

I am going through the process right now -- thanks for asking.

BTW, Jumbo, I'm happy to play my part in things. ;-)

Wow, congratulations...I had the same thing done, but it was surgical to correct an under bite.

But the no solid food for close to 2 months was making me insane

Thanks. Yeah, it was tough near the end. I found myself longingly gazing at "food porn" near the end -- I am sure you know what I mean!
