Trade Brandon Banks?

Since Drafting 3 WR's and bringing in Gaffney via trade and Donte Stallworth it is quite possible Brandon Banks will not fit on the roster. I'm not sure if it is smart to reserve one space for a player that is mostly a return specialist. Espcially if we have a couple other players that can return kicks, i.e. Niles Paul and Aldrick Robinson.

Another reason is the new kickoff line being moved up to the 35 yard.

I don't know if I would want to outright cut him as he instilled fear into the opponent every time he touched the ball and he was our most exciting player.

Do you think we could trade him for a 4th or 5th round pick?

Currently the Receivers that will definitely make the roster are........

1. Moss

2. Armstrong

3. Gaffney

4. Hankerson

Other possibilities are Paul, Robinson, Stallworth, Banks

I don't see us keeping more than 6 WR on the roster. Maybe we keep more because of the shortened offseason and have more depth in case of hamstring and groin injuries.

I saw someone say "trade him straight up for Taylor Mays" and I laughed. But that just shows you that he isnt as popular as he was last year. His off-field antics and the way he has been acting in camp so far makes me think he is going to get the boot soon.

I'm sorry but this is another example of how our fanbase overrates the HELL out of our players. He's a no-name player in the NFL who did very little. If he "instilled fear" into our opponent then he wouldn't be on the chopping block.

Bolded part is a lie. Banks' accomplishments as a returner last year were both substantial and impressive and I say that as someone who wouldn't be disappointed if we cut him outright this year.

Yep he put some fear into teams and you could tell as teams were starting to begin to kick away from him

Banks has always been over-hyped by the fans. He ranked 11th in KR avg. at 25.1 and 10th in PR avg. at 11.3 all while scoring one TD. So no he didn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of other teams the way Devin Hester or a young Deion Sanders did. For the attention he received around here you would imagine he would rank a little higher then a fringe top 10 returner. Factor in his lack of WR ability and that means he has little to no trade value. Now his trade value on Madden I'm not to sure of.

Personally I wouldn't go ape **** on Shanny if he were to unload him but I like it if we keep him. I don't really think he got as much of a shot at showing his true capabilities last year. Who knows? Maybe some more camp and preseason games could give him the polish he needs to be a true threat every time he touches the ball. But on the other hand Josh Wilson is a good kick returner and plays well on the defensive side of the ball so in a way that makes Banksy a bit of a wasted slot if his only strong suit is kick returns. If you can't tell I'm definitely on the fence about it.

Eh.

Other top ~10 KR/PR players include Marc Mariani, Eric Decker, Deji Karim, Danieal Manning, Stefan Logan, Davone Bass, and Jim Leonhard among others.

These guys are a dime a dozen.

It would be worth a try. Let him rest up in TC then showcase him in the preseason games as a returner. If he rips off a few long returns we may be able to snag a late round pick from a team with a need at KR/PR. I'm not rooting for him to get cut/traded but my feelings wouldn't be hurt if he gets beat out either.

Lets not forget, he played injured for half the season. His numbers would most likely have been much better and if it weren't for bad calls and bad penalties he would've had more returns. That being said, I agree with OuterBanks thet he is most likely going to be outright cut. I'd love to see what Robinson and Paul can do in the return game?

Leon Washington, Banks, Mariani, and Logan are in a class above the rest of those guys as dual KR/PR threats. Guys who can sustain the kind of success those four had last season certainly aren't a dime a dozen, either. That said, we don't know if Banks can sustain and, even if he can, it's still possible we do well enough with other returners and receiving threats in his absence.

He was an UDFA. I doubt any team would trade for him. His value is returning kicks, so again I doubt any team would trade for him. Not all thoughts should be threads.

Agreed.

lol...... I love it when there's a trade who's it's face..... Teams are not in the market to trade with us lol.. we were lucky to get a trade offer from Az for Holliday. lol

Go listen to Shanahans interview on the OS today.

That tells you all you need to know about how the rule changes will effect teams with top-class return guys.

Might be time to lose the man-crushes on Banks' date=' imo.[/quote']

how ever you want to change the rules speed kills especially on special teams. Shanny say's a lot of things that turn out the other way. :)

Wouldnt get much at all for him.If anybody took him.And i dont really see that happening either.I like him but mostly its because it was refreshing to see a punt return actually go forward, not side to side, then backwards, then side to side then a spin move, then tackled, like we saw from ARE.
