Brotherz
Starting D co-ordinators will figure that out so fast. They'll commit everything up front and kill us.Go watch Elway's highlights. Same offense... lots of deep connections. Aren't we overstating this a tad? Do we really believe that an NFL quarterback cannot throw a 40 yard pass? If defenses bring everyone up on us, it says much more about our recievers than John Beck being able to reach them and quite frankly, I don't think it will work with maybe the exception of philly. Hankerson looks to be for real, Tana has serious wheels still, and even gaffney has shown some ability to get behind the secondary. We are longer, faster and taller than we have been in about 5 years out on the edges. Beck will make those throws. Not like Brady or Manning but he is not a high school player like many on here are trying to depict him. He broke Steve Young's passing numbers at BYU. Granted so did Ty Detmer but even Ty Detmer could be proficient for what this team is trying to accomplish this year. Again, its about your expectations. Bibby
Looking at John Becks college stats; I like how he improved every year that he played. He ended his senior year in the 2006 with 32TDs and 8INT with 3,885 yards throwing with a 69.3% completion rate.

darrelgreenie
Dan Steinberg has come to a conclusion about Beck's arm based on some confliciting* tweets from people no more qualified then me or you from the 1st day of practice where 2 QBs are throwing the workload of 4 QBs? And that was enough to convince me that it’s about time to run for the hills Okay- *If Beck lacks arm strength why is he overthrowing WRs? That lousy Beck he doesn't having his timing down on deep balls on the 1st day of training camp! Run for the hills!

That lousy Beck he doesn't having his timing down on deep balls on the 1st day of training camp! Run for the hills! Steinburg's just another WaPo journalist looking for another scandal to write about. I saw the videos on youtube and, frankly, Beck looked very good. Decisive with a quick release and usually on the money. Frankly, those videos show how bad aour receivers were more than Beck's play. But, I'm also a fan of the concept of 'play like you practice' and would love to see someone keep tabs of his % completion each day. Another thing to think about is the coaches telling each QB where to throw to and who to throw to each snap. Remember, it's a goal for the coaches to get every player on tape for review that evening. So, DBs start to get a 'feel' for where the route is going and whose 'turn' it is to make a catch. Then they can jump on the ball like D Hall did. I bet the DB coach told D Hall to lay off a little and that's why he had no more INTs. Pure speculation on my part, but that's how football practices go as I remember from my high school days. mi6
Haven't seen John Beck play or practice, so I'll reserve judgment. However, these days in the NFL, if you want to have a potent quick strike offense, that tires and disrupts defensive schemes, your QB better have a lively accurate arm. The checkdown, and short passing games isn't gonna help put points on the board. Just ask, Jim Zorn and his 5 to 10 yard passing offense. It never cracked more that 16 points in games that mattered. monkeezgob
If Beck had a gun for an arm, and the accuracy to go along with it, then I suspect he'd have started a few more games than he has in the last four seasons. Don't expect too much from this guy.
SkinsNatsFan
A couple of days of training camp right after the end of a lockout that lasted months. May as well just forfeit the season if they can't connect on the deep ball by now.

GaryGreenMonk
For the only 2 days of camp crowd... he was doing the same stuff in pre-season last year. it's the consistency of the same type of comments and tweets from what he was doing 1 year ago. he's been practicing with recievers all summer. the truth is that the man hasn't thrown in a true NFL game in 4 years and it shows. he's only got 5 weeks or so to turn on the heat and being 30, he doesn't have much time left to keep floundering along. Rex knows this... why do you think he's holding out for starter money? He knows it was all a bunch of talk to get him to sign for less money and feel like he really had to compete for the starting job. Rex will have no problem at all, not even a little bit, beating out Beck and Clemens for the starting position.
DGREENHULK
Exactly, laughable how these fair weather fans get lol So you think Beck has a strong arm?....Beck has known for MONTHS he was going to be the number 1 guy are you telling me he hasn't thrown a ball until 2 days ago... BS...read the eye witness reports in the camp threads guy is floating the ball down field without anything resembling a tight spiral. It's early ill give you that but talent doesn't take 3 weeks to show up he either has it or he doesn't. Rex should win the job easily.

SkinsWarrior81
But hasn't he been throwing the ball all summer with member of the receiving core and practicing with Drew Brees. Drew Brees is one of the best in the league.. do you assume he is supposed to be as good as Drew Brees based on this? If his short and intermediate stuff is really good, then the deep ball can be worked on. He has a TON of new receivers out there he hasn't worked with. he has not had Santana Moss on the field with him yet either. I think it will come around but it may take a bit of patience. If Shanahan thinks he is THAT good, then who am I to say he is wrong? I doubt very much any of us are credentialed enough in QB evaluation to make some rash decision that the guy sucks. darrelgreenie
So you think Beck has a strong arm? Anyways here's AA: The ever-loquacious Anthony Armstrong had a couple of additional observations from yesterday's practice that seemed worth passing along.First, on what he thought was the highlight of the morning practice: "The highlight of practice," he mused. "Hmmm. John Beck was rolling to his left and had a hell of a pass to Brandon Banks. He looks like he's getting pretty comfortable in the offense in the short couple days that he's been here. We've been saying that he does have a live arm, but it's a whole 'nother quarterback so we've gotta get used to him throwing the ball too, and work on it from there." http://blog.redskins.com/2010/08/11/two-more-practice-notes-from-anthony-armstrong/ First, at the combine, John Beck's ball speed was a tremendous 61.1 mph, according to http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/draft/2007-03-07-john-beck_N.htm"]this USA Today article[/url]. That was second best among all QBs who threw at the Combine (Russell and Quinn did not throw) http://www.thephinsider.com/2007/5/2/0358/03650 “I think he’s a good guy,” Davis said, which likely isn’t the first sentence of Beck’s resume. “You can tell he’s just really hungry, man. He had an opportunity, I guess, in Miami a few times and then had to wait. And the quarterback position’s hard, because sometimes you’ve got to wait your turn for a while, and sometimes you never get that second chance. And I think right now this is his second chance, and he's been taking it on, working hard. I’ve seen him. He looks a lot better. He’s been throwing with Drew Brees, I think, and he looks a lot better when I’ve seen him the second time.” thecooleyzone Just done throwing with beck. Ran about 40 routes at loco high. Put on a little show for the cars on dry mill. http://tinyurl.com/4ywsegq I thought he looke awesome! Throwing shirtless! 18 Jul 18 Jul

TK
Trust me if we loose more games than last year he is GONE!!! Wrong. So does this mean that Shanny could get the axe if Beck stink's it up and we go 1-15?Danny will not be happy Shanny will be fine. Bruce is running this ship, not Dan. Dan wasn't even in town, let alone the Park during last weekend when FA kicked off. And Dan knows it's going to take more then 2 years, one of which was shortened by a lockout, to clean up the mess he & Vinny made over the years.
