REDPepper
At least Stokley played under Shannahan before? I think he's probably past his prime, but he used to be an ideal slot receiver. Our WR corps was weak going into this season. We're clearly trying to address that weakness. I can live with that. The old Redskins would have gone after the best available free agent WR and overpaid him. Who knows, maybe we still tried to get Holmes, Rice, or whoever, but it just didn't work out. But if we're not going to end up with the best available free agent, I'd rather us bring in a handful of capable WRs than not do anything at all. Let's take our chances and maybe one or two of these guys still has something left. Shotgun approach. Works for me.
Mickalino
@ChrisMottram: Bringing in Stokley, Gaffney & Stallworth isn't a big deal. Save the Skins outrage for when they do something awful. That sums it up....most of these guys won't be on the roster opening day. Ya'll need to breathe. Except the problem with that POV is we actually gave up something of great value for Gaffney
Sanders 83
It's funny to see people get worked up over these signings... Vinny C is gone people.... These contracts cost us nothing to cut... Competition is good for everyone.. Including the rookies and Malcolm Kelly... Show your skills and stay healthy and you will make the team... otherwise we got cheap vets who know what they are doing...
REDPepper
Redskins fans are huge hypocrites. When we sign the big name FA, we piss and moan about Dan Snyder. When we don't go after the big name free agent, we piss and moan about how we're not getting the best guys available. WHAT DO WE EXPECT?!?! DO WE SERIOUSLY EXPECT US TO FIND YOUNG, TALENTED PLAYERS ON THE FREE AGENT MARKET FOR CHEAP CONTRACTS?! GET OUTTTTA HERE.

dadirtbags
I think Shanny and Co. like to have a few vets on the roster to help the young guys out...I did like Brandon a few years back..seems like a good charactor guy...JMHO

NavyDave
Obviously the Shannys are trying to Suck to get Andrew Luck or he is determined to be fired to get the rest of the money and move on to another team. I hope all three can make the team just so I can see a Bang Cartoon probably displaying Shanny as Wile E. Coyote super genius. Is Stokely better than T.O? Why not give Plaxico a Shot err a chance? greenspandan
Keenan McCardell is going to resign his post unless he gets an assistant recievers coach to handle the camp bodies. he's going to resign his post because we are probably about to SIGN him. MonkFan8
Camp fodder? Isn't that what everyone said about our plethora of old, crappy RBs last year? I really hope Shanny learned his lesson and we won't stick with these guys deep into the season. That was painful.

shk75
Guys Guys Guys relax we clearly have a need for small speedy slot receivers and we will just play a 5-wide set and nobody will be able to cover all these guys
Mickalino
Great value? Really? He's going to be good in a 4-3 - something we will probably revert back to in a couple years, if history is any indication. Redskins tradition is to bring in some coach with a totally different philosophy, and rather than take the good players and create a system to fit the players, we trash the players to bring a new system which NEVER lasts. REDPepper
Gaffney and Stokley are professionals. They're veterans who have been around the league. They've been on bad teams and they've been on good teams. They've always been content with playing their role, even if that's the 3rd or 4th WR. And they always produce. That's what we need. Enough of guys with "potential" who come in and think they are stars who will be our top WR soon. These guys never work out, at least not for us. We need veterans who are class acts. When you have a locker room filled with veteran professionals, you can then bring in "potential" young guys. The young guys learn from those professionals, and if they don't, they'll get cut and we can save ourselves the headache. Or they learn the "right way" and they start playing up to their potential. Darth Tater
On the old 80 man TC roster, you'd usually carry about 2+ times your 53 would carry, so you'd carry about 10-11 which would be picked from the best 14-15 you looked at. Given that Stallworth, Gaffney and Stokely all have contracts that make them expendable and that with a 90 man roster, you'll probably want 13-15 in TC. Given that we've just gone through an extended lockout, the best guys to fill in from the bottom would probably be vets as opposed to UDFAs and hanger-ons that usually fill the bottom. Now, when I say fill from the bottom, this does not mean that it is not conceivable that they fight their way up to the 53 but they will have to fight their way up as opposed to a big name FA who pushes someone down pretty much automatically. Destructis
Watching these reactions are cracking me up. Huge over reactions for guys we probably signed for the vet minimum and no signing bonus, so they will just get paid training camp money and be gone. I bet Shanny and Allen are sitting at a computer right now and laughing their asses off. Allen: Let's keep ****ing with them, who do you want to sign next? Shanny: I know, I know, lets sign Fatass to a new signing bonus. That will make them go over the edge.
HogNose
Brandon Stokley, Jabbar Gaffney, etc = Training Camp/season mentors. My thoughts are that due to the lockout and the accelerated pace these rookies will be on once camp opens up they will need vets to guide them. derskinsfan
Also, seems like Shanny likes to pick one position every year to load with old guys for a test spin. Last year it was running back. It didn't last and didn't seem to cause any long term damage either
skins25
We have ONE WR who has been in the NFL for more than 1 season. It is great to have youth, but you also need players around them to educate them and get them to work harder, Gaffney, Stallworth and Stokley are all hard workers and have been around the league. We need one of them on our roster.
