Big Blue Joe
Link According to WFAN, disgruntled Giants DE Osi Umenyiora is planning to hold out. Umenyiroa has made intentions clear: Give me a new contract, or trade me to a team who will. The decision by Umenyiora to holdout comes just days after we reported that Giants co-owner John Mara told Umenyiora that he and Giants GM Jerry Reese need to talk “man-to-man.” Not much of a surprise. Big Blue Joe
He already had 130+ days off and he wants more? LOL.Yup. He's going "Haynesworth" on the Giants:The team is absolutely insisting on receiving at least a first-round pick in exchange for Umenyiora, but as of now, there appear to be no takers. As a result, Osi will continue to show up at Giants training camp to avoid being fined for a holdout, but will not participate or play in any upcoming preseason games. The market for a 30-year-old DE with chronic hip problems is expectedly thin, especially at the first-round asking price, so this mess could essentially get even more ugly than currently it is. Dottino described its potential as an "active retirement' where Osi shows up, rides a bike and does absolutely nothing else. But is it possible for this to last throughout the duration of Osi's contract? He's signed with the team through the 2012 season. Link

Bibby
A 1st round pick for a 30 year old who will probably be done with his career in about 5 years? Obviously the Giants can't be serious about getting something like that, right?

Big Blue Joe
Today on As the Osi turns... The Giants announce they are no longer accepting trade offers for Osi (link): The window for the Giants to trade Osi Umenyiora has apparently closed. The team informed the two-time Pro Bowl defensive end today he and his agent are no longer allowed to seek a trade partner, according to someone informed of the conversation between the two camps today. The person, who requested anonymity because the talks were to remain private, said the team's reasoning was Umenyiora's agent, Tony Agnone, has been unable to find a team willing to give up a first-round pick. GM Jerry Reese orders Osi to go home and "clear his head" (Link): Osi Umenyiora has told the Giants he will not practice with the team tonight, setting up a showdown that a source familiar with the mess said “could get real ugly” in the next few days....Knowing the situation was bubbling over, GM Jerry Reese did make a move to at least temporarily diffuse it earlier today. According to a source familiar with their conversation, Reese told his angry end “to take the rest of the day off to clear your head and we’ll see you in the morning.” Osi refuses and shows up at practice anyway(twitter): TomRock_Newsday Tom Rock Well, well, well! Osi is at practice and riding the bike! Giants say they told Osi to take the rest of the day off. Yet here he is. They seem as surprised as us. So instead of a holdout, perhaps Osi is staging a sit-in. Can the Giants fine him for insubordination for NOT going home when told? pointyfootball
They have to trade him, right? He's not going to get Charles Johnson money and bringing the anger public is not going to endear him with Reese.

Big Blue Joe
As the Osi Spins...lolYup. Tune in today as Osi threatens to have knee surgery if the Giants won't pay him (link)Less than a day after Osi Umenyiora was told to go home and "clear his head" by General Manager Jerry Reese, a source close to the New York Giants defensive end says he's considering surgery if the team doesn't pay or trade him. With lingering hip and knee "problems" that have kept him out of practice so far, Umenyiora probably could get some surgeon to say he needs an operation. The plan, apparently, is to inform the Giants that he needs to undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury, and then sit out the entire season. Unless, of course, the team decides to pay or trade him, in which case he can play through the "injury." Boss is talking with Raiders. You guys worried about losing him? I'm rooting for him to leaveIt's seems pretty likely that the Raiders are going to get Boss. I think they are planning to restructure some contracts to get under the cap so they can sign him.I see Tiki's talking with Miami...They are wasting their time.Yeah, but I would LOVE to see the reaction Tiki gets when the Dolphins visit the Meadowlands this year. AmishGangsta
Damn, what's going on in the NFC East this year? The Eagles are doing their best Vinny Cerrato impression, the Giants have a Haynesworth situation on their hands, the Cowboys are in Cap-Hell, and the Skins are being fiscally responsible - you know, 2012 is getting very close, it might just be the end of the world.
