This is a look back to the 07 Draft....some interesting comments on Beck, including comparisons to Drew Brees.

There's a linked video there of Beck throwing a ball 70 yards in the air in a game. Holy heck, I didn't realize he had such a cannon! I like him better already!

Knowing the Redskins of recent vintage, the team is not going to make 12 draft selections and then follow that up by being 'very active' in free agency per Bruce Allen, only to hand the starting quarterback job to John Beck, a 29 year old back-bencher, who the Baltimore Ravens were willing to give to the Redskins for a practice squad caliber cornerback :)

Just doesn't add up folks.

Guys our team isn't much better than it was last year. In fact you could probably argue that we are worse due to the lockout. Its not like our Rookies have been through mini camp and are getting ready for training camp.

If John Beck is plugged in as the starter whenever the season starts you can expect us to be gutted by our opponents especially our opponents in the division. None of this is in stone but lets be honest people these are pretty safe assumptions. Who cares what you did in College. The NFC EAST isn't college. Ask Jason Campbell and Patrick Ramsey!

Jamal Brown is going to test FA people. TK has echoed this multiple times.

Casey Rabach is coming back to start. (per our insiders)

It takes WRs multiple years to develop in the NFL.

Running backs are useless when they have no offensive line and need to act as extra linemen to protect our QBs (1 QB will not finish the year healthy, backups get ready)

As I said before, any given Sunday anything can happen but when your most important positions contain novices and your 3-4 is in year 2 with multiple players still missing in key areas you should expect to struggle.

Sun., Oct. 30 @ Buffalo Bills (Toronto) 4:05 pm (Should be even)

Sun., Nov. 6 San Francisco 49ers 1 pm (Will be tough stopping their running attack and their D is tough)

Sun., Nov. 13 @ Miami Dolphins 1 pm (Should be tough)

Sun., Nov. 20 Dallas Cowboys 1 pm ET* (Should be tough)

Sun., Nov. 27 @ Seattle Seahawks 4:05 pm ET* (Even)

Sun., Dec. 4 New York Jets 1 pm ET* (Will be very tough)

Sun., Dec. 11 New England Patriots 1 pm ET* (Will be extremely ugly)

Sun., Dec. 18 @ New York Giants 1 pm ET* (Will be very tough)

Sat., Dec. 24 Minnesota Vikings 1 pm ET (Will be tough stopping their RB)

Sun., Jan. 1 @ Philadelphia Eagles (Thanks Coach.. We should expect another VERY TOUGH GAME against our well equipped division opponent)

This could be a very Zornish 2009 year 2 for our 2011 Redskins. Allot of rookies in key roles. Allot of inexperience in leadership positions. Our Division opponents are out for blood. John Beck talks a good game but his ass ain't ready.

HAIL!

Of course it's Becks job to lose. :obvious:

Said this in another thread' date=' but Shanahan is stiring the pot nicely here. He's giving props to Beck in order to ;

- Stick the boot into McNabb & tell the world he's available, ie Your done in DC

- Put Rex on notice. You haven't got us by the balls like you think you have. Continue to ask for too much & your done in DC as well.

- Massage Beck's ego a little bit. He likes him, and wants to give him a fair go. Plus, in a shortened offseason, Beck will be needed to take the lead whilst others (FA QB's) get up to speed. May as well piss up his back a bit now to get him working hard. Beck might not be the long term solution, but he has value to Mike in the short-term if nothing else.[/quote']

Beck was a rookie thrown in a terrible situation, and was Cam Cameron's pet project. Who, by the way, brought Beck to Baltimore after he was fired from Miami. Baltimore was desperate for corner help and unloaded him to Shanny, who apparently had him rated as his top quarterback in the 07 draft. Keep in mind, Baltimore's first pick in the draft was Jimmy Smith, a cornerback. They knew they needed cornerback help.

I'm sure the Shanahan's could get a lot out of the kid. The one thing he has over Grossman is better mobility and faster feet. He sets up quicker then Grossman. He needs an opportunity. He has high upside. Kind of reminds me of Trent Green. We need to quit thinking we're going to win now and start developing players. If Beck consistently improves and by the end of the year is playing the position at a high level, we win. If not, and it turns out to be a tough year and we find out he's not the person, it puts us in the Luck sweepstakes. To me it's win win. A lot good quarterbacks in next years draft.

Good to see some folks actually see the big picture. Whether or not this is truly Shanny's plan, don't know, but I tend to agree with this much more so than some of the other wildly speculatory free agency rumors flying around. :kickcan:

In all my years of watching the Redskins (1976) we have never ending the season with the worst record in the NFL and the highest draft pick we ever had since then was second overall which wasn't our original placing it was Carolina's pick, with that being said there is no way in the world that we will have any chance at Andrew Luck next season so please everybody stop dreaming.

Something else, you know what's funny about another college season is there is always a chance that the so called front runner for the first overall pick when he decides to not skip his senior season always seems to leave plenty of doubt in peoples minds. Payton Manning if he had left after his junior season without a doubt would have gone number one but after his tank in another Florida game all of a sudden there were enough holes in his game to make the Colts think twice about taking him. Yes they made the right decision but at the time Manning was no longer the clear front runner. USC QG who's name I can't remember maybe it's becomes he washed out, but if he had left school his junior year he would have gone 1st overall without a doubt instead he stays and then falls to 10th. You never know someone might emerge this year and steel the thunder away from Luck, we will just have to see how this plays out.
