ramsrams
Sorry for chiming in late on this. I've been away due to personal circumstances. Some of you might remember my old thread when the Skins signed Adam Archuletta. I didn't think that was a wise decision, and despite the not unexpected outcry, was proven correct. O.J.'s a different animal. He's a decent enough player. Despite his turnover numbers decreasing substantially over the last two years, (some of that scheme related) I actually think he is a better football player today than he was back then. He's become a much more consistent tackler (though he'll never be a "lay the wood" guy), and he doesn't get beat deep all the time like he used to. Plus, he's now developed a feel when he's called on to blitz. John Lynch, who I have a lot of respect for, pretty much backed up my observations during a game last year. I think you guys will be happy enough with O.J. Don't expect a Pro Bowler, just a solid player. The Rams were never going to pay him the $11.5 million he was due this year, and you guys got a good pick up as a result. Guess we owed you one after AA! bishtw
Thanks for the tidbit on OJ but you could kept the AA reference to yourself, that just one of our many "fails" that still burns my ass.
Truant
Thanks for the input. OJ is definitely a different beast. AA had the hype based on potential and rare flashes, but Haslett obviously had success with him and we're going to ask him to do what he does best... play centerfield. I think most people are pretty excited about the move. After all, how many personal punt protectors can we sign from you guys?
Vooskin
My biggest worry about OJ is not his age, but really how good he really is. He spent his whole career playing in the NFC West.. which I could probably look like a half decent player playing in. Then the counter argument is he's played on a pretty bad team the past 5 years on the only team I cannot name a player from their defensive secondary so maybe he is that much better. I'm not sure really, his age is a huge concern but he fills a gap that was causing us trouble last year and since we didnt mortgage our future by trading any picks I guess there isn't a single thing to complain about. santana_4_prez
Living in Missouri, I have lots of Rams fans as friends. They are all upset the Rams didn't resign OJ. That is a good sign.
SWFLSkins
It sucks to say it, but you nailed the AA deal and we failed to listen. I just hope that you are two for two.

I don't think we failed to listen. Many here didn't like the move. I was neutral about it since I didn't really know much about Arch. In hindsight, I kinda understand why they went that direction, since the team at the time needed to get stronger at SS. Unfortunately, he was a big liability in coverage. It didn't help that our LBs sucked. We've had better luck selecting players the coaching staff knows, so hopefully Atgowe fits that mould.

I've been approached by a lot of Rams fans with good things to say. I think this signing was huge for the Skins. Even if OJ A. only plays really solid, then it's a 100% improvement. Our FS situation was either the biggest liability on defense, or the 2nd biggest last year (NT being the other).
Bat~man
Thanks for the insight. I'm excited about OJ, definitely "feels" like a good signing. I admit, I was excited about AA, but that was due to hype... I didn't know much about the guy at the time. We as Redskin fans... found out the hard way. Darrell Green Fan
Yeah thanks for the review. I don't think anyone is expecting him to be Kenny Easley, we just need a solid player who won't give up the huge passes and runs that Kareem Moore gave up all year. He was a disaster. There were a few who liked the moved but it blindsided most of us. If anything most of us were like "o..k didnt see that coming, well we'll see what he's got." The one's who said it was a brilliant move didnt know football. They thought you could put anyone along side Sean Taylor and they would be good. That was Gregg Williams humbling moment. OP nice post, OJ is no Sean Taylor , but he and Landry still make a dangerous pair. They will make each other look better.

Hiro
We don't need two superstar safeties. We have one in Landry, and now we have an extremely solid player in Atogwe. The bottom line is that for a decent price, our secondary got a whole lot better. Thanks for the head's up, ramsrams. I don't recall, but I was one of the fools who supported the Archuleta signing, and may have argued in his favor in your warning thread. Clearly I was wrong.

Hopefully he can continue on what was a great season for him and remain healthy next year! (or whenever we play again) Speaking of OJ, did he announce a number yet? I saw on Twitter where he said "stay tuned" but that's it.

Mania
Appreciate the input. The AA move was the previous management and I seriously believe that the new regime is heading in the right direction, i.e. getting players that fit the position and not just the top free agents to make a splash and sell jerseys. Actually the Arch signing didn't hurt us that much. I think we were able to trade him for not much of a cap hit. Brandon Lloyd hurt us more than Arch. gortiz
Guess we owed you one after AA! ha, thanks ramsrams, awesome thread, great insight. we need a steady hand back there. don't think we had one since ryan clark? or was he a Strong Safety? oh and by the way, we are owed freaking ronnie lotte for the AA debacle, my god. he seems cool though, heard an interview of him on our local sports radion show during SB week. he was pretty decent. Brandon Lloyd hurt us more than Arch. Agreed. At least from Arch, we didn't lose any draft picks. We were able to send him to Chicago, who agreed to eat a lot of the salary in exchange for a 6th rounder I believe. We lost two picks, AND a ton of money, with Brandon Lloyd.
