The more I think about it the more I believe the Redskins will take...

The more I think about it, the more I believe that if Julio Jones falls to the Washington Redskins at #10, team Shanahan has no choice but to take him. I know the Skins need linemen on both sides of the ball. They need a Quarterback, Linebackers, probably another starting corner, and ideally another running back. Yet I feel the pick will still be Wide Receiver Julio Jones from the University of Alabama.

We all know Mike Shanahan like QBs, but we also know that Kyle Shanahan is the one running the offense and if Kyle doesn’t fall in love with a QB, I don’t see them going that route. I see Kyle Shanahan, given the opportunity, getting is Andre Johnson in Washington this year.

Let’s take a look at their measurables and see how they compare.

Andre Johnson

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 230 lbs

40 yd dash time: 4.41 sec

Vertical: 41”

Broad Jump: 11’

Julio Jones

Height: 6’2 ¾”

Weight: 220 lbs

40 yd dash time: 4.39 sec

Vertical: 38 ½”

Broad Jump: 11’3”

They have similar builds and let me remind you that Julio accomplished all of his measurables on a fractured foot. Jones also suffered a broken hand during the season last year and only missed one game, and he had to be forced to sit in that one.

The fact of the matter is the Skins need a true #1 Wide Receiver, if they can’t get the QB that they want why not get a receiver that could very well be Andre Johnson 2.0.

Unless there is a QB there who Shanny likes then we will go BPA. We have so many holes that just about any position we take as BPA also fills a need given we need players everywhere apart from TE and Safety.

If Jones is BPA on our board then great, personally though I think the pick is more likely to be a OLB like Quinn or Aldon Smith or a RDE like JJ Watt.

I am really impressed with Jones willingness, desire, and ability to still play very well with injuries.

If Green or Jones are available at #10, I'd love to have them in Burgandy and Gold. There are a lot of other players I love as well though. I don't know who I'd rate higher among the several players I'd love to get at #10.

One thing that does compel me to want to take Jones though, is his reputation for not taking plays off when he knows it isn't designed for him, and his run blocking. He's clearly a big vertical threat that possibly(read hopefully) could demand safety help. Couple that with his run blocking, and it's possible his presence could take two defenders out of a rushing play, with the safety being too far off the LoS to make a play in time.

Stranger things have happened (Aaron Rodgers falling all the way to 24 when he was projected to go #1 by most everyone 6 years back still buggs the living piss out of me with the darn Packers quelling my excitement by taking him one spot above us); but I'd be real surprised to see Jones fall that far. Particularly as you say, he's being anointed the next Andre Johnson already by many.

Love it or hate it, I'll stick with Jake Locker being our first pick.

Hail.

Its hard to argue any pick we make in this draft because we have needs all across the board. However I would want to know who is going to be throwing the ball before I know who is going to be catching it.

Ideally yes. But in some rare cases (Calvin Johnson), it doesn't really matter whose throwing the ball, they'll still make plays.

And yes, this draft has enough very good talent to have someone available to fill one of our many holes.

Julio Jones is not Andre Johnson though. You are taking a rookie who hasn't played a down in the NFL and comparing him to arguably the best WR in football right now. Measurables only play a part in the makings of a football player.

I like what Jones did at the combine with going through it with an injury, but I am not ready to compare him to Johnson just yet.

I like this pick. It would come as a surprise to some but it is a hole that we need fixed. If last Season showed anything, it showed our D has us in games. It's our O that needs to to put us over the Hump. After all 3rd down % doesn't lie.

I just really want to see Patrick Peterson in a redskins uniform. I love his style of play hes a big hitter and has great ball skills. The guy has too much talent to fall to us but stranger things have happened in the draft.

If he's available at #10, and if a team like the Rams decides it has to have him, would you trade back a few spots and give up Julio Jones?

I would definatly trade back, and pick up a 2nd. With all the talent in this draft, we need to aquire some more picks.

I agree to a point, but I am probably the biggest Bama fan on this board and I have watched 90% of his college career (the other 10% wasn't televised in my area) and he truly is that good. He runs great routes, blocks downfield, and can make the tough catch in a tough spot. He accomplish what he did with John Parker Wilson and Greg McElroy throwing him the ball in a run first offense that showcased the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner. I'm just saying, Julio Jones is THAT good.

I also think Locker. I think coach Shanahan made up his mind on Jake last year.

I would love the selection of Jones. As others have said we have so many needs, we might as well go BPA at any of those positions. It so happens Jones seems like the most realistic selection. One of my concerns is okay we draft and do not address WR because they plan on trading picks for someone like V. Jackson. This can be applied to any position though. Nothing beats a smart draft coupled with smart and efficient free agent signings.

Also, I would love to take him because you know the Rams are salivating at the idea of him at 14. Why not piss in their cheerios and keep them from developing a potential stud at WR to hinder Bradford. I kind of see a mini rivalry brewing between recent games, Bradford, OJ, and possibly Jones in the draft.

It looks like it will come down to Jones, Watt/Jordan, Aldon Smith, maybe Amukamera, and an outside shot at Quinn. QB's are the real wildcard.

I'm hoping for Quinn. I don't think we can go wrong with any of the above. WR and CB are probably the bpa outside of Quinn. But are a lower positional value to me.

Even if Peterson fell to #10(which is unlikely) I'd take him in a heartbeat because I think he is going to be the next great CB. Now some will call me a crazy one because that doesn't address a need we have, but also at the same time we have needs everywhere and can go a multitude of ways. Look at the lions last year they had needs at LT,DT,RB among others and could have gone Okung but chose Suh. We're in that same situation we have needs everywhere on our team and we have a head coach who finds mid round talent and they turn into very good offensive players. I wouldn't be upset if we took Amukamra,Peterson,Quinn, or Aldon Smith

somehow, i didnt think enough to figure out exactly how, but we will get a good value pick at #10 (not Locker) and still get Locker without giving up much. this is not something we are use to here but watch it happen...maybe we trade to move up some spots in late first or early second.?..

Would be a bad pick IMO.

Yes, we have many holes, but that means we have to re-build. You have to start that with the lines.

Now, if the CBA gets done and after FA lots of those have been addressed, the thought will change. But as of right now, it would be bad. Because absolutey nothing about adding him will make us more competitive than right now.

I would neither call you crazy, nor would I say CB isn't a need. It might not be as pressing a need as some positions on the team, but to pair Peterson with Hall who'll still only be 27 when next season rolls around, with the youth of Barnes and Westbrook if there retained, and whomever else we may pick up; would lock down the CB roll's for the next good few years.

One less position to worry about, even if it isn't the most pressing.

I still crave the UW QB though, smiles.

Hail.

I find that reputation very believable given his playing through injuries both this season and at the combine. I think that translates well to a guy who is going to work his ass off and be ready to go his rookie year rather than take a long time to develop. I'm not saying I'm hoping we take him over other positions/players, but if he's there and we take him I will be excited about his future with this team.

It doesn't matter where they go. This team has so many needs. Take the Best player available. I would like to see a LG,LT, or RG. Take a senior starting QB later in the draft. Christian Ponder sounds nice to me. Get Matt Hasselback to groom him.
