rumplestilskin
Not if they already know the system and coach running it. Then it's on point, which it is here. I think Has ran a 4-3 in St.Louis but hes definately familar with OJ no doubt.
Dallascrushers
I have a bad feeling about this....I am hoping the other team he is visiting is the Bills and not the Cowboys.
Mackdaddydean
Again, I can't speak for the 90,000 people who fill that stadium. But I am not sure it would be smart for Atogwe. It would be different if it was someone drafted and was a Skin to start with. Nah itd be the same either way. Some people upset at first, but eventually everyone would learn to live with it. Est.1974
Atogwe has three things going to for him make him a player we should sign:1. Familiarity with the coaching staff- played under Haslett 2. Fills a need- No question about that 3. Veteran- Some may view him turnign 30 as a negative but I don't. I think the secondary has lacked a veteran professional presense the past few years, and hopefully OJ can provide that. Dead right.
megared
I don't agree with SHF in this case, but don't misrepresent his point to make yours. Adding someone at age 30 is not the same as keeping a current player who turns 30. That's, at best, weak logic. Nowhere did he say anything about paying free agents vs homegrown talent being a factor in that statement. Besides, you really can't categorize Atogwe as being a 'typical' FA pick up. He still has more experience in Haslett's defense than anyone currently on the roster, played his best ball with him as D coordinator, has no injury history outside of the shoulder in '09, and is still one of the best FS's in football. Est.1974
I'm not concerned with his age, he has only been in the league for six seasons. I think he still has some good years left in him. Agreed, I have the same opinion on Jammal Brown as well. These guys can still contribute for 4~5 years. See Darren Sharper & Chad Clifton as prime examples. TD_washingtonredskins
Nowhere did he say anything about paying free agents vs homegrown talent being a factor in that statement. Not explicitly, no. But he said: "I am not a particular fan of signing a 30 year old to a potential long term deal." So, to me that means he wouldn't want to start a brand-new, top-dollar, long-term contract with a 30-year old FA. What does that have to do with cutting Landry once he turns 30 (and might only have 2 years remaining on a contract)?
Dallascrushers
I think he meant to say Charles Woodson...he was going with older Packers....Sharper started season on PUP list
Hokieskins1
How many games did Darren Sharper play this year? Sharper is 35 years old. He had one hell of a season for the Saints in '09.
Est.1974
How many games did Darren Sharper play this year? In his 14th NFL season, not many. The previous dozen or so were pretty good though. OJ has played what, six so far...I then said he could contribute for another 4~5....Thats my point, he's got plenty left.

Agreed. He was signed to a pricey but fair contract extension two years ago. If we get him for a little less than that rate (I think it was around 5 years for 33 mill) that'd be a good deal. We're likely heading to an 18 game season. Does anyone feel confident about Moore starting 18 games? Does anyone feel good about the depth behind Moore if he were to go down? Those two "No" answers contribute to the plethora of reasons as to why we shouldn't let him leave DC without a contract.

Well, if we want Carlos back, he'd obviously have to sign...which would be categorized as the signing of a 30 year old to a potential long term deal. It's saying that if all things were equal and it was Landry instead of Atogwe being cut over an $8 mil roster bonus...obviously he would've sided with the FO in not wanting to pay him. Otherwise what would the problem be with signing someone in that position, with familiarity with the scheme/coach and who has by all accounts had a better career than Landry to this point? Well, I need to stop speaking for SHF at this point. Personally, I don't want to give Carlos Rogers an expensive long-term deal at his age/his production. He's solid, but not much more than that. Either way, I'm not sure I understand your analogy with Landry since he's 26 and won't probably be up for a long-term deal at age 30. I have no idea what SHF's stance would be if Landry was up for a contract once he turned 30. Back on topic, I'd be all for signing this guy.
