bedlamVR
Really they want a 1st - there is no way they will get a 1st for Kolb not on what he has shown . If a team like the Vikes/Zona think they are a QB away they might offer a couple of conditional mid round picks (oh the irony) maybe even a couple of 2nds as for Schuab a few years ago (which would be a mighty haul) but i think he is seen as a back up who could start . I think Reid has been too long on the pot in Philly - their best chance came nearly 7 years ago and they have been on a slow decline ever since . Back in 2004/5 they were a really scary team the three headed monster in Westy-Buck and Staley was impressive and gave the team balance TO gave the passing game the wow and the D was sic . But then there was no attempt to build on that . The TO saga went on way too long (like the AH thing here - man they should never of let him take that cheque) and their seems to be a belief that everyone is replaceable in Philly where in reality they aint, and the one person they should have replaced clings on . I know big Mikes best years were years ago too but I think he is a pure student of the game he sees players at their best and thinks he can always get the best out of them . Right now and this maybe bias but I would take Shanahan over any HC in the NFCE - I would go as far to say MS>AR>TC>JG . Coughlin just cannot get his team ready to play in december or when a game means anything - that superbowl run and the 10 road game to get there kind shoots holes in that argument but the Giants should be a great team but they are not . Garrett I really am not sure about - i think the wins were kind of a bounce with the ousting of Philips . Reid is a little like the Marty Shottenhiemer of the 2000s in that he had good teams that couldn't get it done and Mike is Mike .
Wyvern
It's hard to tell whether Reid has the better scouting department, but they do wind up with a lot of players that stick in the NFL. (Not all stick with the Eagles!) Shanhan's drafts and trades have been less than even -- but considering how quickly Denver declined after he left -- I wonder how good the Broncos scouting department is. The jury is still out on the Skins talent evaluation, but early results tend to favor Reid's bunch here. As for tactical coaching -- I think Shanahan has the ability to get more out of his offense. Reid is up and down, and manages to bring in 'medium' results when he's got 'above-average' talent on the field. Then some days, he clicks into the zone -- and looks unbeatable. Then he's back down to earth. He just seems to have more talent to work with -- especially on the line. Now, Shanahan rarely seems like he's ever truly out of the game. He seems to maximize his offensive talent, because they are tailored along a team strategy. While I don't always understand his gameplans or play-calls (especially with Denver) his results seem good and at least competitive. His offense looks like it can be consistently rellied on, especially with a good kicker like Elam, to put up decent points. Shanahan team's defenses tended to be his undoing -- but he normally doesn't get as involved there. Bottom Line: If Shanahan coached a team Reid assembled, it would beat a team assembled by Shanahan but coached by Reid.
DavidGQ
We are talking about the better coach RIGHT NOW. Shanahan is inferior to Reid in every category right now. Don't believe me then look at the Eagles-Redskins game 2 score. Ummm..Reid build his team for years. Shanny inherits a POS team from Vinny. Give Shanny a few more years then compare. MumboSauce
It's a what have you done lately deal...Reid has had more success in the past several years than Shanahan has. I think Shanahan is still a good coach and will be better than anything we've had in years in time, but I'd choose Reid, but not by much.
Phixius
Reid may have been more successful during the last several years but he often loses games the Eagles should win by his poor decision making. Traded McNabb for Vick, same result.

artmonkforHOF
Reid all day every day, this is not even close. Shanny won SB's as John Elway's coach, not as a coach of a football team, and although Reid has not won one yet, I like his fundamentals, solidify your lines and then build from there. Can anyone think of the last time the Eagles had a bad O line or D line after Reid has been there, and keep in mind these are not all the same guys, he has moved pieces around and seen no significant drop off in production from either unit. Also, how many times have you heard a player had a problem with Reid? I cant remember one. There is a reason Reid is the longest tenured head coach in the NFL, he's pretty damn good. pjfootballer
I don't care if you disagree, your argument has nothing to do with the context of my post. You stated Cowher lost 6 AFC Championship games that to was wrong. Whether or not you like a coach is irrelevant to me but you should keep the facts clear and accurate. You know, I went back and re-read what you wrote. I misunderstood what the context of your first post was. My mistake. I'm man enough to admit I was wrong when I read the first post. And about Cowher losing AAFC games, I was guessing. Most of the time, I'm at work on my lunch break and don't have time to always look up "the facts." I said 5 or 6 (clearly guessing on my part) and it was 4. Close enough. Try not to be so condescending next time.

I have to agree with this. But I don't see him becoming our coach anytime soon. He will probably retire as the Eagles coach. But if Shannahan has a loosing season in 2011, I could see us in the hunt for another head coach. Maybe it would be good not to take a big name head coach anymore. If there is one man I want, it's Marty Shotteheimer. I don't think he was given a fair chance. Jim Zorn got 8-8 his first season and was given a second chance. Mike Shannahan got 6-10 this past season and is being given a second chance. Shottenheimer got 8-8 and was fired the first season. Years later, he rebuilds San Diego to give them 14-2. I would love to watch him rebuild the Washington Redskins.
ChillSkinzFan84
I would go with Reid. He seems to build his system around his players instead of forcing a system on players that don't fit. A coach who is flexible in their system will always be better to me. I think Reid has less of a ego than shanny does.

Thanx...sadly I'm predicting about the same for next year...although i will say its still early and depending on how we do in the draft and free agency we could have different predictions a few months from now. But i don't have much faith in Shanny the gm.
Son of Gadsden
Fair enough. But Gibbs was out of the game for quite a while. Shanahan was out for a single year, and spent that entire year traveling to different team's training camps, scouting, tentatively putting together a potential staff, etc.Very different. very true, and either way, i wouldnt called gibbs 2.0 a failure. we got 2 playoff appearances in 3 years, then he quit because of sean taylor's tragedy combined with this infamous double timeout mistake. The man was bringing the team back. I still have a problem with us dropping his entire coaching staff after he left though. but anyway, i dont think Shanny or Gibbs have lost anything. Shanahan has 2 SB's, Reid has zip......plus he's a dirty filthy eagle. **** him!

Rodriggo
Andy Reid repulses me. Of all the things the Redskins have done wrong over the years at the very least they haven't completely sold out like the Cowboys did when they brought in Parcells. Some guys can never coach here. NEVER. Reid is one of them. When people were talking Fassel a couple of years ago I was literally about to dump gasoline on myself.
Son of Gadsden
i think some people are forgetting that Shanny acquired Elway and Davis. All the other teams could have too but they didnt. Minnesota had Farve and Peterson...but i didnt see them winning any SBs.....Dallas had their "ultra uber" 3 headed running back scheme and Romo sits to pee....how many SB's again? The Jets have Sanchez, Greene, AND Tomlinson...yet still no SB. Shanny won 2 in a row. He won one of which with pretty terrible play by Elway, and the other he threw for over 300 yards but only one TD and one interception. ANYONE they plugged into the system in Denver seemed to work, thats the way his system is. Shanny deserves credit for what he has achieved. The grass is always greener on the other side, and the Skins have too much tendency to jump the fence and figure it out themselves. Reid should be crashing and burning after trading McNabb for Kolb...but Vick saved his ass. Complete luck.

However, they did sell out on the player level when they brought Deion Sanders in. I still get a little nauseous imagining that punk in a Redskins uniform. But aside from that - I honestly believe that Shanahan is a better fit for this organization. This group needed tough love and a firm direction, which Shanahan has and is going for it. If the players don't fit it right now, I'm sure that he will rectify it and choose the players who fit his system. Great example is T. Williams over Okung. Ryan Torain is another. We didn't miss a beat when Portis went down. Typical of a Mike Shanahan coached team. Andy Reid has done well in Philly, no doubt, but the Eagles also won those division titles in a really, really, REALLY weak NFC East division (I mean, I remember feeling just embarrassed that our division had become so bad) and the NFC also was a joke at that point. I mean, come on, a Joke! So I don't think you can underestimate what Shanahan accomplished. He broke the streak of John Elway losing superbowls. He broke the Streak of NFC dominance in Superbowls in a game in which the Packers were heavily favored. He won back to back superbowls. He kept his team competitive well after Elway left. I definitely am looking forward to Shanahan proving all the naysayers wrong.

grantarchy
You were almost right on. I think around that time the NFC was about as weak of a conference as I'd ever witnessed and the NFC East was not much, if any, better.
bedlamVR
Yep and from that 6-10 Seasonwas the first season for the Giants with Eli - strange that he has won a superbowl while Reid has been the Uber coach of the NFCE . My big gripes with Reid are ; EGO When people say he has no Ego - Lets look how he treats his stars Trotter go (though he really did shine up a pig - well JJ did) then Barber, then Corey Simon (interesting not been back to the NFCCG since Simon was let go) then Bobby Vincent, Litto Sheppard, Brian Dawkins, Troy Vincent, Jon Runyan, swindled Westbrook out of Millions (trying to pay him under the table) most of these players were Green blooded but Reid thought they were all replaceable . Not worked out so well .. . . . then you had Owens - who understandably wanted an improvement on his contract after 2004 (people talk about Elway with Shanahan, yet Owens was the sole reason the Eagles made the Superbowl) and Reid let his Ego take hold and Baulk at the prospect in the belief even Owens would toe the line - now remember Owens was not the same as Haynesworth - Shanahans hands were tied Haynesworth was already here - Reid WANTED Owens - everyone knew what TO was like - Reid and the Eagles FO screwed the Ravens on a deal that the NFL got involved with - Reid should have known how to handle him . Compare that to the Egos (Marshell, Schaffer, Cuttler etc) Shanahan juggled back in Denver all those years and how fractured that locker room has become since he left . Flexibility Just how do we know how flexible Reid is ? We have never seen him change or adapt his philosophy to fit his players - He has had essentially 1 QB all the time he has been a HC, not long after coming to town he picks up Westbrook - thats his offense . He has always been pass happy he has always had no interest with the defense . JJ assmembled a very specific characteristic to the defensive line - it is an undersized 1 gap attacking 4-3 front D that may struggle against the run but live off big plays - Reid unsure what to do with the D bring in a coach to run the 2 gap system read and react which made the D line look a lot worse this season than it has in recent times. The offensive line - Peters is solid but gets more praise than he should .. . . . . other than that is the rest of the line really any better than any other in the East ?
