His friend was critically wounded and was taken to a local hospital where surgery was performed. Brandon was injured by the assailant with a surface knife wound on his side which will require stitches. He is recovering in a local hospital and is expected to be released within 24 hours. “Brandon was not involved in any wrongdoing and was not implicated in any way. “Brandon’s immediate concern is for his life-long friend who is like a brother to him. He would like to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes for him and his life-long friend.” ----------------------- ES Staff 2nd appended edit 2/14/11: per Redskins Public Relations: STATEMENT FROM JAMES GOULD, AGENT FOR REDSKINS WR BRANDON BANKS ON BEHALF OF BRANDON BANKS: “In response to the well wishes, many calls and concerns for Brandon Banks, he still remains in a local hospital for precautionary reasons and is expected to be released within 24 hours. When asked about Banks's condition on Monday, Wyllie said only that team doctors had visited him at the hospital and reported that he was doing fine. When initially told Tuesday about the more serious description of the injury released by Banks's agent, Wyllie expressed surprise. "You've got to be kidding me," he said, adding that he would try to get more information. When he called back, Wyllie said, "Larry Hess and our team doctors have been in constant communication with Brandon's doctors and we are aware of the situation." He said he could not explain the differing descriptions of the severity of Banks's wounds. "You'll have to talk to James Gould about that," Wyllie said. ... ----------------------------------- ES Staff 4th appended edit 2/16/11 PM: per Redskins Public Relations: STATEMENT FROM JAMES GOULD, AGENT FOR REDSKINS WR BRANDON BANKS ON BEHALF OF BRANDON BANKS: “Brandon is doing fine; he has been moved to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, under the care of Redskins team physician, Dr. Anthony Casolaro. The knife nicked his lung creating a pneunomothorax condition. He still has a chest tube inserted and it will remain until the wound heals and the lung remains inflated. “We are hopeful that the tube will be removed by Friday, and if the lung does not respond then a commonly performed procedure using a scope will be performed to repair the lung. Brandon should be released within 48 hours afterward. We expect 100 percent recovery where he can resume his offseason training in two to four weeks. “We were hopeful that the tube would have been removed this past Monday, but the lung would not remain inflated. Brandon is in good spirits, especially after speaking with his friend, Christopher Nixon. Brandon would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Howard University Hospital for their care and appreciates the outpouring of love and support from his fans, teammates and the Redskins family.”

Jofizz
Just another case of a pro athlete in "tha cluuuuuuuub". You don't hear about guys like London Fletcher getting involved in petty BS like this. Somebody needs to sit down with Brandon and let him know that this is not ok. Glad he is alright though. ljs
i happen to follow Darnell Dockett on Twitter- he posted that he was at the same club and saw the stabbing. per 106.7- banks is in stable condition, his friend is in critical condition- and they have the stabber in custody. Just bc you go to a club, doesn't mean you are the troublemaker. but this sure doesnt' look good.

#98QBKiller
Why, with that much money would you want to hang out in D.C? What? There are nicer places in DC than in NOVA or MD. The place he was at is only a few blocks from the White House and is a more upscale place.

GhostofSparta
"Superficial" knife wound? Sounds like the most painful minor injury possible. Glad he's out of the hopsital already. Hopefully he learns a vital lesson from this and his friend makes it out ok.
Byner21
I don't blame these guys at all for enjoying their lives and going to the clubs, good for them. But yeah, if someone steps to you then just blow it off. Anybody that starts shiz with a pro athlete is probably just trying to make a name for himself. Problem is, even if athlete is smart enough to avoid conflict, his buddies might not be, then it gets more complicated.

Let's wait until we hear what really happened before we go ahead and say that BBanks was at fault. After all, he is the victim here.
