I also love the idea of taking Greg Jones in the 2nd, or 3rd if we get another pick. The guy plays like a poor man's Patrick Willis, but if Willis is a 10 the guy plays like an 8, and has tremendous upside. I also LOVE Casey Matthews, he may not be his brother, but he has the same motor and he would be great on the inside of our 3-4. I am surprised the Skins haven't been looking into D-Lineman, but there are still three days left. I will update as updates come in!
TD_washingtonredskins
Any chance we would take Locker in the 1st and someone like McElroy in the later rounds? The Cowboys did something similar in the late-80s with Aikman and Walsh.

The Cowboys did something similar in the late-80s with Aikman and Walsh. I guess we could do that....but the problem with that is we have so many needs...that a wasted late round pick may cause issues with depth...especially if we overhaul this roster this offseason if the CBA goes through.......I mean I wouldn't mind if they just passed on Locker....and drafted McElroy late....I feel that McElroy fits this offense a lot better than Locker....McElroy has really good accuracy and is a good QB....if we could get him in the 6th round it would be ideal....and this doesn't mean we can't draft a qb in the first round next year....I also like Dalton as well....I think Dalton is going to be a good QB in the NFL
Hitman21ST
Hmm...Locker, and no WRs yet. Is this any indication of our draft plans (and by proxy, our free agency plans)?
Mahons21
If we want any chance of trading back we have to make it appear that we're very interested in Locker.
Dallascrushers
If we want any chance of trading back we have to make it appear that we're very interested in Locker. I mean it could actually backfire....especially if a team behind us wants to move up ahead of us......remember the whole Sanchez draft....when we wanted him and the Jets moved up ahead of us.....same thing could happen again.....I mean just because it looks like we want Locker (and doing it as a smoke screen....doesn't mean that people will trade with us so they can get Locker and we move back and pick up picks.....teams could just go ahead of us and draft him)
heliKCx17
I sincerely doubt it's a smokescreen. SHanny wants HIS QB. Locker has a great arm and is a fantastic athlete who is smart and works hard. He has trouble with his accuracy. Can someone find the draft profile of Mr. Elway? It was nearly identical. SkinSince87
We don't have the luxury of enough picks to be able to spend 2 of them on QBs in the draft. we will after we trade McHag and Fat Al
DGREENHULK
I hope they get around to Phil Taylor the NT from Baylor....I really like him in the 2nd to rotate with Bryant at NT. We could 2 young dispruptive space eaters for a longtime in our 3-4.
Mahons21
You make a good point... however if Locker is there at 10, and we haven't shown any interest and a team at 18 (hypothetically) wants Locker but knows that no one from 11-17 is looking at him, why would they trade up to get him? Hitman#21
i really believe Locker has the tools to be a good QB in this league. Needs some weapons around him though.
DGREENHULK
I read a report that the Vikes (12th pick) have also showed a great deal of interest in Locker so if we try and trade back it maybe to 11th???and whose to say if MIN likes him enough they may try to jump us at 10.....I have a feeling that if Shanny does want locker we may have to (brace yourselves) trade up to land him at maybe 7 or 8. Enter Apotheosis
Shannahan didn't draft Elway, he drafted Cutler. Shanahan's experience coaching both John Elway and Steve Young created a template of sorts for what qualities he likes in a QB.
Chump Bailey
Personally if we were to acquire another 2nd, I would rather use it on a DL. I think we can find good OLB's/ILB's later.

What about Kyle's influence? Clearly Kyle has some control over the QB position as evidenced by the debacle this year. In addition we're not running the same system Mike ran out in Denver w/ Elway. Unless we get Julio Jones, Cameron Jordan or one of the top OLBs like Von Miller, we better trade down. ---------- Post added January-26th-2011 at 01:01 PM ---------- Shanahan's experience coaching both John Elway and Steve Young created a template of sorts for what qualities he likes in a QB. Exactly. He had success with two QBS almost identical to Locker. ---------- Post added January-26th-2011 at 01:03 PM ---------- What about Kyle's influence? It isn't EXACTLY the same, but it is very similar to both DEN and SF systems Shanny SR ran.
