I think what it is is that back in the 30s 40s 50's and 60s only 1 team from each division made it and they were in the same division, so in the 40's it would be Chicago against Washington and later it was Green Bay against NY or Philly. I mean, the Skins have played the Cowboys twice in the NFC Championship Game (if my memory serves) and at least once or twice in the playoffs since.
