Rep Allen West Says New Congress Should Prioritize Threat Of ‘Infiltration Of The Sharia Practice’ In U.S.

Damn, how did Allen West find out the plot?

Rep. Allen West (R-FL), a newly-elected member who has loudly scapegoated Muslims and campaigned on a promise to oppose religious diversity, appeared on Frank Gaffney’s radio program last week. Gaffney, who routinely says that Obama is both a secret Muslim and a member of the “Muslim Brotherhood,” asked West about how the new Republican Congress plans to “take on Sharia as the enemy threat doctrine?”

West said that, although he has not spoken with all of the new members, he hoped that Congress would focus on the “infiltration of the Sharia practice into all of our operating systems in our country as well as across Western civilization.” He explained that targeting Sharia should be part of America’s “national security strategy” and that a response to Sharia would somehow include “tailor[ing]” American “security systems, our political systems, economic systems, our cultural and educational systems, so that we can thwart this”

Why does it feel like we're going backwards?

Actually,, you know when you catch a bug in the house and toss him in the toilet?

How he struggles while it swirls, and no matter how many times he seems to get a hold of the side, you just blast him with piss and force him under?

That's more like it.

Awesome. A new label. I always get excited about those. :)

Well, you could be so lucky as to not be labelled the same thing as the people they're going after.

Count your blessings. What will happen to them is actually real, not some just what people on a message board call your favorite team.

But you know the old saying... they came for the man down the street, and I said nothing. Then they came for my neighbor, and I said nothing.. and today there's someone knocking at the door.

No, mommy. You weren't.

Well, then, which do you choose to focus on?

The fact that someone in here caused you a little owie by making up a new nickname for your favorite team.. OR..

the very REAL problem that this sort of fear mongering is going to cause a whole lot of Americans?

SHF.. what do you think this little crusade will do for the perception of the average muslim in this country?

I've got a buck it's not good. I'd bet another buck it's got him a bit concerned. And i doubt it's about any Sharia Law.

So, while you worry about people picking on your team. Mr Crusader there with his "infiltration" witch hunt is going to cause some very real people some very real problems.

Given the history of such things in this country and worldwide, do we really think that no one is going to get hurt by this sort of thing?

It's about priorities. And yours seems to be to make sure no disparaging names are used while we discuss this man who's getting ready to start a witch hunt.

The point is the witch hunt. Not that people don't like the Tea Party.

Quite a diatribe for one line, with a smiley.

Anyway, I'm not worried. We live in a country where we have "winter breaks" from school now. And the generic "happy holidays" can cover Ramadan too. We're as secular as we've ever been.

Nor am I worried about the misguided ideas of a "tea-o-con" who I suspect many people will hear about for the first time, in this very thread.

We ain't goin' Sharia. And we ain't gonna open a brand new religious war over this idiot. But hey, if you want to blow things out of proportion, Bernie Sanders is an admitted socialist, so I guess Rush and Hannity's crusade has validity afterall; by your standards.

I gotcha

we're not going to do any of this, but here he goes doing it.

From now on I'll be sure to call them the "Happy Smiley Party", while they do things like this. After all, no sense calling a spade a spade, people get offended.

But i can't help but note that he's not trying to get elected. He is elected. And he's using fearmongering tactics against Sharia Law because demonizing a group who largely can't fight back and are already under the microscope make an easy target.

But you're probably right. He won't do it, while he does it. And no one will listen to it, even though they voted for him.

Carry on.

The guy is a freshman congressman who nobody knows. He's harmless. Just like Bernie.

Now, if he (or Bernie) become speaker, I think we'll find ourselves on the same page. Until then, he's just another elected official with a dumb idea. And if you want to flip out over every one of THOSE, you're not gonna have time for much else.

Well, mentioning that what he's doing is wrong is flipping out, call me guilty. But I still don't see any denunciation out of you for this, but only for those who pick on your team.

L:ike I said,, they came for the guy down the street.. etc etc etc. It's been played out throughout history. But this time will be different, I'm sure.

Joe McCarthy was only in office for 3 years when he started up. How long anyone has been there has no bearing on what they want to or will do.

Besides, the point is that this is now a guy serving in our government, and he wants to start a religious crusade. Those always go over so well, don't you think?

West is my Congressman, even though he doesn't live in my district. He rode to the win on the back of the tea-partiers. Neighbors of mine, who are devout Palinites, are infatuated with him.

He wraps himself in the flag and appeals to those who are easily manipulated through the rhetoric of fear and paranoia. I simply find him dangerous.
