Draft the best of available of the following positions:

LB, DE, NG, or OT

Next draft should focus on OL and front 7 on defense.

2nd Round - OG/OC

My main problem with going with defense high is that Shanny isn't exactly known as a great defensive talent evaluator.

I think that, based on the numbers he has put up this year, and his amazing physical abilities some team will take a chance on him in the 1st round especially after they ooh and ahh at his workouts. But that is risky. He has had one year of starting experience in a non-JuCo setting, plays out of the gun in an option type of offense, etc. I would agree the he would probably need at least 2 years to really be ready to be thrown in there in the NFL. But very few teams are going to do that with a 1st round pick. If you pick a QB in the 1st, especially the first half of the 1st, you're expecting him to be your guy. Some teams would have the patience to sit him a year (if they have a decent backup or vet who can hold things together for a season), but I doubt many would have the patience to use a high pick on him and then let him sit for more than that.

I think that you are dangerously underestimating the Vick factor this kid has. Copy cat league and all that...

Geez, just started counting in my head how many holes we have to fill. Not gonna happen entirely using the draft.

Here's my wish list:

Free Agency -

1 OG, a new center, 1 true NT, a FS, a lower priced slot WR, Lamar Woodley and VJAX

Draft -

Best versitile Oline, Dline or LB player in the first and second. Back fill with the remaining picks and undrafted guys.

I think both of those guys could shoot up the draft boards based on their numbers, their raw physical abilities, and their potential. But drafting a QB in the top 10 based on "potential" can be a recipe for disaster. If we're going to draft a QB in the first this year the ONLY guy I would want would be Luck (they would have to trade up for him anyway, though...but who knows). I think he is the only real "blue chip" NFL ready QB this year.

Make no mistake, Andrew Luck is head and shoulders better than both the players I mentioned. I don't think the Skins will be in position to draft him, as he will be the top player selected in April. I'd take him over Scam Newton or Ryan Mallett blindfolded and prior to seeing any of the upcoming bowl games.

As a Skins fan, what you would hope for is that Cam Newton has an incredible BCS game and shoots ahead of Andrew Luck. Remember JaMarcus Russell a few years ago? I could see the same thing happening to Newton if he has a great game against oregon, which is likely. if that happens, Luck will drop to #2 QB and maybe the Skins can man up and jump up to #2 or #3 to get him. Me thinks AZ will be in a prime spot to get him, though.

Then they would go with Tyrod Taylor before Cam Newton IMO. Tyrod looks almost like a right-handed clone of Vick. Newton looks a little more like a Vince Young type of player.

I believe Newton will go in the top half of the first round. His stock will go up as he works out and interviews.

He's obviously a project in reading pro defenses and dropping back, but I think those are the only deficiencies in him (although reading defenses is a large one). If you could sit him for 2 years, you'd have a good chance of having a franchise QB to groom at the start of year 3.

Cam Newton is this years Tebow. Sure the guy has talent but scouts will also check out his lack of film when it comes to taking snaps under center. Always worry about QBs just playing the spread offense.

Most likely Newton is a 1st-2nd round prospect. He has more value if a team takes him in the second round. Unless there is a team that blows a pick on him in the first round, which can always happen.

McDaniels is fired and Vinny doesn't have a job. Who else would take a flyer like that?

Buffalo they like to make those head scratching picks like Spiller last year when they had OL needs it wouldn't surprise me if Newton was like Tyson Jackson a few years ago and goes way higher than projected. Jackson was a top 20 pick maybe late 1st but not a top 3 pick like he ended up being

I hope he slips into the second round, picking him in the second would be great for the redskins and its a value pick. But you know how the NFL is, there is some fool out there that will take the risk and actually take him in the first round.

Newton is a project and is not an NFL starting QB when he enters his rookie year. He needs at least 2 seasons to get his foot work better, actually he's got some pretty bad mechanics that need ironing out. Then he needs to practice taking the ball out of center and running play action. But I do believe he's a good prospect at QB and is a value in the second round.

Think they would make a boneheaded decision like that two years in a row?

Its Buffalo you never know with them. Some mocks have been showing him there when they pick and I mean it would make sense for them to do that because they need a QB but that D needs a lot of work. See the pattern here with them? Have a big need somewhere, but bypass it for a flashy pick

Its not just us too everyone thinks the Redskins do it the most but teams like Buffalo have done the same as us. We are making a difference than them though in the sense we addressed our needs last year while they didn't really do much. Now this draft will be another big telling to just how much this team is going to change its culture. Do they go for a flashy pick and trade up for Andrew Luck?(which I'd agree with) or do they stay top 10 and try to retool this D and shore up the OL and then move for the big QB in 2012?

that sad thing is I think every team ahead of us currently in draft order would whoop our ass except potentially carolina and arizona. If the Titans had Vince Young, they would have whooped us too.

This statement irks me like no other. Yeah, if the Titans had Vince Young...who is on IR and a major bust...they totally would have won. And lets ignore the DOZEN PLAYERS we had hurt!!

OK, now back on topic. I really wouldn't mind losing enough to be in a position to take AJ Green. Yes, I know we need O-Line. Yes I know we need D-Line. Our receivers suck too and there are no OL or DL worht taking that high. Especially not on the interior -- like Hudson, Wisnewski or Pouncey. One of which I am sure will be available early in the 2nd.

And let's not state the obvious-easier-said-than-done trade back ranting.

What the Redskins need is more play makers on offense. If AJ Green is available, Shanahan should draft him. But knowing Mike Shanahan, he may feel that he could grab a decent productive WR in later rounds like he did with Brandon Marshall and Rod Smith. As far as the defense, it should be retooled through free agency. Shanahan and Haslet needs 3-4 personnel in order to have success with the 3-4. If you look at teams in the league that run the 3-4 defense- the Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Cowboys, Jets, Ravens, etc. None of those teams have 4-3 personnel playing within their 3-4 scheme. The Redskins need to attain veteran players who have played in the 3-4 defense such as a Larry Foote, Vince Wilfork etc.

We all see how that turned out...got some wins, but gave more headaches than wins.

That's not the point, though. Nobody knows how any of these players are going to turn out. Just because VY was a headache does not mean Cam Newton or any of these guys will follow the same path. You draft who you think you can win with, based on the information you have at the time. The entire draft is risky. The same risk was taken with JaMarcus Russell that was taken with Sam Bradford.
