Per ESPN: NFL announces lockout refund policy

NEW YORK -- The NFL will offer full refunds to fans with general admission tickets if games are canceled next season because of a lockout. Each team will determine its policies for club seats, suites and payments for personal seat licenses, the league said Tuesday.

Season-ticket holders can choose to receive a refund or credits toward future games. Fans with individual game tickets can receive a refund or exchange the tickets for future games, with some restrictions.

Refunds will be paid within 30 days once the NFL determines how many games will be played in 2011.

The current collective bargaining agreement expires in March, raising fears that a lockout may disrupt at least part of the preseason and regular season.

"We are working hard to secure an agreement with the union that is fair and forward-thinking to ensure our game is sound and strong well into the future," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "We know we will reach an agreement at some point. We all want football without interruption, but our fans are entitled to know now that they would receive refunds if any games are canceled."

With teams soon to send information to season-ticket holders about buying packages for next year's games, Tuesday's announcement offers assurances to fans that they won't lose the money if they go ahead and make a purchase.

it's starting to sound like we may not have a 2011 season.

It's beginning to look like that, for sure. I've got a feeling, though, that something will happen at the buzzer and this will be avoided. The NFL just too popular and there's too much money to be made on both sides for them to not play football for an entire season.

My question is, though, if there's no NFL season next year, will the NFL feel the same effect Major League Baseball felt when the season was cut short in '94?

There's a 0 percent chance there's no football in 2011.

ZERO.

The NFL has become WAY too big of an industry for there not to be football played for a whole year. There's going to be pressure from everywhere. Think of how many things hang in the balance. TV Contracts, jobs, local economies, web sites, restaurants, etc etc. It will get settled.

We'd be at a huge advantage if they did. Ours will already have a year's playing experience!

That's hilarious but I bet few people on this board enjoyed those scab games as much as I did.

Back on topic, I just don't see the league going thru a refund process where they're sending millions of dollars back to STH's. My bet is no lock-out.

I think they'll get something done a few weeks into the season once people start missing checks and the networks start missing games, and there will be real games with a shortened season by mid-Oct.

I agree. They may play into january and push all the playoffs back 4 weeks.

See, I just don't think there'll be a lockout when push comes to shove. An NFL season is literally worth billions of dollars. We'll have an 11th-hour agreement, or at worst a few weeks without our real teams (I for one would be giddy and actively root for a lockout if we got scab games). A lot of players can't survive if they're not paid as scheduled. They never learned how to handle money, so they'll go bankrupt if they miss even half of a season.

I agree with this.
