WP: Perry Riley: "I feel terrible for the situation"

Hey why dont we update the wiki pages of all 11 defenders on the field when AP scored to bash them for not tackling him before the goalline? No one single play or player ever wins or loses a football game. Nobody ever plays a perfect game where they could not have done more to help their team win. If we had scored more, and they scored less, Banks doesnt need to return a punt for a TD.

Good kid. Learn from your mistake and move on. One thing that did bother me though was that they threw flag after flag on the Skins and didn't bother to a) call holding on one of the many occasions on the Vikes offensive line and B) The only flag that was thrown on that Armstrong hit was for "delay of game." What about the fact that the LB lead with the crown of his helmet? The announcers didn't even bother to mention it? WTF is going on with the officiating?

That was so poor officiating and it falls on Ed Hocholi. I'm tired of hearing about his "muscles', the dude is crap. Didn't he cost a fumble a few years ago for the Broncos or Chargers?

The call against Armstrong was terrible, he didn't spike it, he threw the ball down from his hip. Because of the football's odd shape, it bounced away. That call was unnessesary, but Greenway leading with his helmet into Armstrong's chin was NOT called?????

We could have won the game in a lot of ways... we could have lost it in a lot of ways. The thing is, that's how it goes in the NFL sometimes. We more than likely would have won this game if not for that block in the back... it was a mind numbing, bonehead play...you simply CAN'T make that mistake. If he wasn't called for the same thing in the SAME game then maybe I could understand.

That said, I don't think we should crucify the guy.. he messed up pretty bad and cost us a potentially game winning play, but it is just one of the NUMEROUS mistakes made in this game and EVERY game we play. Learn from it, move on.

This picture makes me sick to my stomach. Ugh, what could have been.

Yep...it proves two things that have been talked about since about 4pm yesterday (and one thing we've been talking about for months):

1) It was clearly the correct call

2) It was clearly unnecessary for Riley to even touch the guy

3) Banks is TINY

Oh well...here's to hoping that, in a year or two, we're laughing about how we all first heard of Riley on the field. I have expectations for this kid to rise up and be a starter for us pretty soon.

I believe Banks is the smallest player in the NFL now

From my camera I'm positive that you are incorrect. Riley clearly hits the Viking in the back.

Was that taken when he initially hit or after contact was made?

If it was after he initially hit him his body could have just turned from the contact. Not saying that happened, just curious, because I was at the game and only saw the replay they put up on the screen and from that angle it looked like he hit him more on the side.

Glad he feels bad about making a mistake that hurt the team, but I also hope he can just learn from it, not make the same mistake, and get better so ILB is one less worry for the future.

In listening to Shanny's PC on Redskins.com, he praised Riley for his ST efforts yesterday. He said he's young and he'll learn not to go in to those situations at full speed. I suppose if he wasn't barreling full speed in to the guy versus tapping him, there's less of a chance of a penalty.

Picture was taken during the initial hit.

Riley blatantly committed a block in the back. It was an unnecessary block, and lets not forget- it wasn't the only time he drew that same penalty in the game. I think he had it called on him on a prior punt return or kickoff. He made the same mistake twice. I understand he's out there trying to make plays and I respect that he feels terrible about it and wants to do better. Good people feel bad when they lose a game for their team. All we can do is hope that he turns this experience into motivation to work his ass off and get some reps on defense, perhaps break into the starting lineup in the absence of McIntosh. I have a lot more respect for a guy who feels bad about his mistakes than some douchebag like Carlos Rogers who cries that the home fans he's constantly disappointing don't treat him like a king.

the kid is a potential future LB for this team, one questionable block in the back is taking a lot of you over the edge.

what some of you should be over the edge about is why are vets like moss and cooley dropping easy passes, why our oline was juggled again today, why carlos rogers thought he was a missile today, and why rocky mcintosh decided tackling is overrated. there were a lot of issues today with this team, a rookie getting flagged on a crappy call is not one of them.

best post i've seen you make (i think) :)

In Bill Bellicheck Land , Riley is looking for work today.

We aren't in that position to can any player like that; let alone a young guy who can potentially save us a pick in a position of real need.

Besides the fact that as boneheaded as he was, at least he's had the grace to stand up and say how bad he feels. The dumbass thinking on the field we could rectify. Being a jerk who only cares about himself we can't. Thankfully, his character looks far from that.

Hail.
