TK
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/perry-riley-i-feel-terrible-fo.html Perry Riley: "I feel terrible for the situation" By Barry Svrluga Redskins rookie linebacker Perry Riley provided perhaps the most crucial play in Sunday's 17-13 loss to Minnesota, blocking Vikings defensive lineman Everson Griffen in the back and thus negating a 77-yard punt return for a touchdown by Washington's Brandon Banks. Riley initially declined to speak to reporters in the Redskins' locker room, and he left FedEx Field without commenting. But public relations director Tony Wyllie later convinced him to answer a couple of questions on a conference call. Here's Riley: What happened?: "It was a return to the left side of the field. I was trying to get position on my man. Banks did a good job setting the dude up. I thought I hit him on his shoulder rather than his back. Apparently I hit him on his back. The call was made. Of course, I felt bad about it. It was all in good spirit. I was thinking positive on the play. It turned out bad on my part, but that's something that I will fix. I feel terrible for the situation." Did you agree with the call?: "They showed one replay on the big screen. I kind of caught the end of it because l talking to the refs about the call. I didn't really see the replay the way I wanted to see it. People told me both things. People told me it looked like a block in the back. Some people say it was kind of iffy. I'm going to go home, try to find it. I'm sure it's going to be on SportsCenter somewhere. I'm going to look at it when I go home or look at it tomorrow when we go over the film. I'll be able to know then whether it was really a block in the back or a bang-bang play."

RonArtest15
Feel bad for the kid....he had a big mistake, but so did Santana Moss. It happens...hopefully he'll learn from it and it never happens again.
jasjhughes
It was definitely a block in the back. It was also totally useless as it was well behind the play.
Gibbs Hog Heaven
I could feel sympathy if it wasn't for the fact this was the second time in the same darn game he committed such a dumbass penalty. This one ultimately costing us a potential game winning lead. Sorry Perry. For a pro, veteran or rookie, that's total inexcusable stupidity. Hail. TK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_RileyRead the last line.. SMDH.. You mean this? He is best known for single handedly losing a Redskins game on November 28, 2010 by delivering a pointless block in the back against a Viking return man who was away from the play resulting in a penalty which nullified a Brandon Banks punt return for a touchdown. "a Viking return man" Really? How about this. Anyone that wants to discuss it logically & rationally can do so in this thread. Anyone that just wants to spout out nonsensical stupidity because they have emotional issues & just think they should be heard, well that 95% of the board can go post in the other thread on this. I want to be you when I grow up.............. The kneejerk responses are a tad overboard, but nothing worse than we've seen all year. mmzznnxx
It sucks, and I hate that it happened, but I hope he doesn't beat himself up too much over this. It was a poor decision, but it's not like the rest of the team played spotless games to have the W yanked away by Riley. Hopefully he gets his head in the game and comes out inspired. I'm extremely disappointed in all the fans calling for his job, however. It's completely unnecessary. He's got a lot of talent and they obviously saw something in him to make him a worthwhile pick. There's no way Riley should lose his job for today's game while Rabach continues to do next to nothing.
Thirtyfive2seven
I'm sure he feels bad about it. Dumb move on his part. I saw the replay finally when I got home and it was DEF a block in the back and even worse it wasn't necessary.
TheGoodBits
I'm still pissed it was called... he hit him just off the shoulder, and it barely qualified as a block in the back. Added to the fact that it was behind the play, that was just a crap call all around. And apparently the Vikings can do no wrong, even when they try to wrestle Banks' head off by his facemask. Brandon Lloyd Christmas
maybe im alone here but i didnt think it was a block in the back at all. it happened right underneath me at the stadium, i saw the replay on a 100 ft TV screen, he hit the dude in the shoulder. this was a bogus call. the kid is a potential future LB for this team, one questionable block in the back is taking a lot of you over the edge. what some of you should be over the edge about is why are vets like moss and cooley dropping easy passes, why our oline was juggled again today, why carlos rogers thought he was a missile today, and why rocky mcintosh decided tackling is overrated. there were a lot of issues today with this team, a rookie getting flagged on a crappy call is not one of them. rick1796
lots went wrong in the game byond two bad block by Perry Riley. He looked good in preseaon as a MLB and i am not tossing him away becasue of two penalties in one game. If santana doesn't let ball bounce of his hands the skins likely win.If the interior of the line actually blocked in the second half the skins might well have won. If the defense had been better at wrapping up runners the skins might have won. A lot could have gone better and sure Riley really shouldnt have made those blocks, but it's just something else the 'Skins will have to improve on if they want to win games. TD_washingtonredskins
I hope this is the type of thing that Riley uses as motivation to challenge himself and continue to compete for special teams snaps and eventually defensive playing time. I would assume that the staff is still high on him and hopefully he has a role on this team moving forward. Tough play. Tough loss. But I'm honestly thrilled that we have rookies and younger players in position to win or lose games for us.

I don't know, the replay they just showed on football night in america seemed pretty obvious that it was a block in the back. When I was at the stadium I thought the same thing when I saw it on the board but I'm pretty sure the call was ok. I wonder if they would ever consider changing the rule, a block in the back when the runner has already past the defender shouldn't be called. If the runner is in front of the defender and is blocked in the back then it should be flagged.

The rest of your post I agree with. he hit the back side of the guys shoulder. even if it was a borderline call its still not the end of the world. it wasnt like he was square with the dudes back and shoved him. That's absurd, there was still almost half a quarter left to play. Our O had a chance to go down a score and they blew it, and even if BB's TD was upheld, the D still could have blown the lead. Yeah the kid screwed up, but he was certainly not the sole reason we lost the game. The knee jerk reactions from some of my fellow skins fans are just ridiculous. abdcskins
It was a very stupid play that was completely unecessary, but I'm willing to forgive him and let him continue to develop and improve. Still, ugh....
skinsfan07
I KNEW it was gonna be called back too. That's why I didn't get excited when he scored. And lo and behold Perry Riley saves the day! Fantastic! It sucked the life out of the team IMO. If we score and go up 20-17, the D will be re-energized and more likely to stop a Vikes comeback, and FedEx woulda been rockin even more! but NOPE, NOT US, NEVER US.
