Burgold
It doesn't seem to matter who is our defensive coordinator. This team never seems to play tight man coverage in third and five or in. Why do we insist on always let the oppositions receivers run clean routes on every down. Not only don't we play enough bump and run... we play the softest of zones that always leave someone wide open. We're a terrible zone team probably due to our safeties and linebackers. This team plays soft. Defensively, we are soft.

You know, where our defense was ferocious. And Rogers, playing his natural coverage, was Velcro covered in super glue to his man. Why would you EVER want to repeat that? Burgold
Fine we've played it once. Exception proves the rule. Still, the question is why are our D coordinators or players so scared of it.
Mooka
Fine we've played it once. Exception proves the rule.Still, the question is why are our D coordinators or players so scared of it. We don't exactly have physical corners besides Carlos. Hall and Phillip are both soft. Can't really play bump and run. They can't really play zone either though... paloosa
We don't have the CB's to play tight coverage and the only one that plays that is Buchannon. When there is a 3rd and 5 we play 8 to10 yards off the receiver and it is a pitch and catch first down for the opposiing team. Why? Carlos Rogers isn't a physical CB because he plays 7 to 10 yards off every receiver. Charles Woodson is a physical CB. No pass rush makes these guys look even worse. Conn
I think what you're asking for is something that will be more viable in the future....IF we keep Carlos. I say this because right now, Barnes is the only CB in the wings who, physically and (it seems) mentally could play bump-and-run consistently and effectively. Springs was another guy who could, except he was always injured, and obviously isn't here now. Carlos, realistically, is the only guy who can do this. Which begs the question. Why isn't Rogers asked to do it more?
GoDeep81
I think you answered your own question.. We dont have capable DB's that can play bump and run on a consistant basis.. We've done it a few times this year (last series against the Colts comes to mind) but I guess were affraid of getting burned, if we try it more often than in desperation situations.. Dead Money
We play scared cause our safeties suck and our corners either cant cover (buchanon), cant tackle (hall) or cant catch (carlos). So sick of watching QBs WITH TIME picking apart our zones. SO SICK. LOL I forgot to mention, the QB ALWAYS has time to pick them apart too. Dirt
This is one I'll never understand. 3rd and 5, I'm screaming at my TV WELL before the snap. I'm looking at a guy playing such deep zone, he's not even on the tv screen. Predictably the pass is made to a W I D E open receiver 6 yds down the field. And this has happened many many times this year. I'm just...i don't get it. Even if you're going argue that we're getting good angles on guys this way or something??? Then why do teams flourish in yards after the catch on us? LIke, seriously, what the **** is going on? Is Has that stubborn? Why don't you just put 8 or 9 guys on the field. You're GIVING them plays, and they're taking them. I can see them from Florida. It's sickening. This team has enough worries without creating a Defense from absolutely 0%. This should really go down as one of the worst mishandlings of a defense ever. They're horribly out of position, etc... every week it's the same thing. I've completely 180-ed on Has. I think he can **** off with his zany new ideas. how many weeks will it take. And don't tell me oh next year. What are we going to do, add 2, maybe 3 guys? Who will be rookies? We're going to be 32nd again year after year until this changes, so it might as well change now. I know, we held them to 17, that's not the point. Kind of like last year, it didn't matter either.Giving up 3rd downs that EASILY, and showing your hand like that is what has to go. Notice Haslett has gotten thoroughly out-COACHED EVERY game this season? It takes 5 minutes to adjust to his 'scheme'. Notice all the screens/dumpoffs/slants? Because our defenders are miles away. It continues all day, Has makes NO adjustment, and we're left with a slow paced, boring ass game. Our offense isn't exactly motivated, the crowd is murmuring, and it ends in a loss. I don't think Has is fit to coach/call plays. It's just too much for him. When things get tough, he puts in Haynesworth. That's his only trick. He sucks, I know he's not leaving, but I wish he would man up, admit this garbage doesn't work, and CHANGE it already. ****!

1198skinsfuture
us and the cowboys are the only 2 teams in the league that couldn't pick off brett when he was throwing them at a rate that was astronomical...absolutely ridiculous scheme...the Haslett nees to realize the F'n zone defense does not work...too many wide open WR's and too many 3rd and short conversios made
Skins3000
I actually saw the Skins play bump and run in the Colts game and guess what, it worked. It was Peyton last series when the Skins really needed the ball so I do not understand the logic.
SuperSkin6
I don't mind the fact that we don't play bump and run that much. Our corners aren't big and strong enough to do it. What I take issue with is lining up 10 yard off your receiver when it's 3rd and 5.
RandyHolt
The OP has a point. We hear Carlos is great in coverage, has decent size. Bah. If you think Hall likes better being in zone and passing speedy 1WR's onto our FS, I call bunk. You dont have to bump and run. Lets simplify it call it man coverage. Tight man when they need 5 yards to seal the coffin. We have played our corners off for the past decade. Maybe more. We act as if we have a dominant pass rush. We don't and havent in that span. Fact is we have little pressure so a zone is too easy to pick apart.
