Conn
Seriouly, he needs to be given more then 6 carries, and i feel like he might be a better off tackle runner then in the box., but he looked good, and had a burst we havent seen since portis against the bucs in 04 I agree with you. Hopefully, we'll know about the burst for sure sometime soon.
BurgundyBlog
This is one of the most idiotic ES threads (and titles) I have ever seen. Somehow last week's shocking upset over the mediocre-at-best Titans made 80% of you forget that we have one of the two or three worst offensive lines in the NFL. This week, our already-atrocious line was beset by injuries... and then it was asked to block the BEST defensive front four in the NFC (and possibly the entire league), against which even the most effective running schemes have routinely failed over the past several years. That our two backs combined for only nine rushes demonstrates what a brutal match-up disadvantage they faced. First of all, it would have been exceedingly rare - and frankly shocking - for even a superlative tailback to make any sort of significant impact on only six carries under the circumstances described. Secondly, and even more ridiculously, these claims that Davis looked "bad" or "slow" are completely baseless. I don't know what game you people were watching, but I thought he appeared noticeably faster than Williams... and that's fairly remarkable considering how little room he was afforded! There were at least two occasions when I actually though to myself, "That looked pretty good for such a short gain!" To declare him incompetent in today's scenario is laughable. Conn
Briz, that's EXACTLY how I felt watching him. And its also why I keep using the word "burst" rather than "speed", because I'm being realistic. We never got to see him get up to speed, because of the line! We only got to see his burst in 2-yard spurts, trying to find lanes to cut back into that weren't there in the slightest. But what I did see, I liked. I can't wait to see him get more carries, and more running room. Good post, its a point I've been trying to make for the last three pages.
holmester
The jury is definitely still out. I saw 2 runs where he had the opportunity to make a good play and didn't make the right cut and I saw about 2 plays where he made a little something out of nothing. I want to see him get 15-20 carries not against the Vikings before I say he is or is not the answer.
tiger187126
they can put those cuffs back on him all the way to the practice squad. i didn't hear banks or armstrong say anything but how excited they were to get a shot at playing. bad attitude for a marginal player. Yeah, 6 carries behind a **** OL against a great DL is all tiger187126 needs to tell a guy is a marginal player, and the player didn't express his happiness at being elevated in the same way as two other players...so lets send him back to the practice squad. Are you pissed that he's confident? Or that he's excited to play? Because either way... I totally agree with you dude. There is no place on this team for young guys who are confident or excited to play. We should definitely trade or release everyone that meets those criteria. They are dragging us down. Conn
tiger, not only do you go out of your way to overstate your case, you're also an ass about it. For no reason. Feel free to disagree with me. I'm just not sure what anyone's done, including James Davis, to deserve such venomous negativity, and disrespectful attitude. If you read back through the last couple of pages of this thread, you'll find all of my opinions on the other aspects of your post. All we have right now are our own subjective views on the running style of a young RB who got only 6 carries in his first game with us. So, in time, we'll see who's right. But I won't need an I-told-you-so speech, because I don't have anything against anyone who doesn't see what I see in a player. Unless they're a dick. darrelgreenie
Did we abandon the run or did our running game just fail to get going? Is this on the coaches or the running backs? Great question i felt like we abandoned the running game. In a 17-13 ball game 9 rushing attempts is half-hearted. And imo we should have been running the outside zone right at Jared Allen or the back DE that came in after Edwards got hurt.
holmester
Did we abandon the run or did our running game just fail to get going? Is this on the coaches or the running backs? Never got anything going. It seemed the only reason we were running the ball was to keep the defense honest for playaction and bootlegs. In the second half the Vikings realized that we couldn't run the ball and stopped biting. Which I think was the reason we weren't as productive in the second half. What? Do you even read before you respond? I've never even seen a Clemson game. I specifically said to you that I have no issue with your opinion on Davis. He's unproven, and as of right now, its just my opinion against yours. No big deal, we all disagree on players and their potential all the time. I even said I'd have no reason to rub it in if I AM right, for the same reasons. I'm taking issue with your demeanor. You're being a dick in every thread you post in, for no reason. Having a differing opinion is fine. Debates are great. But who wants to have one with someone who's being an over-aggressive douche?

I'm going to say it again, and maybe this time you'll get it. Making fun of James Davis had nothing to do with it. I've been debating posters in this thread for pages on this topic, with no problems. I'm not some Davis worshiper who is offended. This isn't the Cult of Davis. I just have a differing opinion. Its your entire demeanor, at least tonight, as a poster. You're aggressive, and just pretty disrespectful in tone. I'm not butthurt. You can hold whatever opinion you want about whatever. But have the class to discuss it respectfully until someone gives you a reason not to. You just come off like an ass. You don't seem to get that this isn't specifically about your opinion of James Davis. There are many who agree with you that I've been pretty peacefully discussing this with. Its about your attitude. The Skins losing isn't reason enough for you to be a dick to anyone. Who the **** do you think you are? If that really is reason enough to just come on here and be a jackass, then this conversation is useless anyways, because you're simply a tool. If not, then I apologize, as the game tonight sucked and pissed us all off. You're just coming off poorly, to me at least.
Brandon Lloyd Christmas
Really? I'm with BLC. I liked the cutting ability and burst that I saw. Unfortunately, that wasn't much because we didn't stick with the run, and there weren't any lanes. Looked to me like he was having trouble decisively choosing a lane to cut into....because there weren't any. Even my girlfriend caught ONE of his runs (the one where he was tripped..she was doing a paper and mostly just listened to the game) and immediately said that she liked how he ran compared to Williams and Torain. Lower, more balanced, and with burst and more speed. All from one run.I realize she isn't, nor am I, the authority on running styles and RB skill , but I'm still surprised that many of the people in this thread didn't see what BLC and I saw in the few runs that Davis had. his cuts are awesome which is why we are keeping him around. the second there is a lane and he makes one of those cuts its 10+ without question. KW cannot cut like that, hes like a half assed version of torrain, that big plodding back. im glad KW is getting better at blocking on blitz pickups tho, thats something we sorely need now that CP is most likely finished. lets see how davis fares when hes not playing one of the best front sevens in football. id also like to see him with our oline from last week, with heyer at G and montgomry at center. i still cannot believe with MCL problems were playing rabach out there, thats pain. SkinsCrushCowboys
he has lost some of the "thunder" from his days with Spiller.....but our O Line was not really creating much running room for him.
gortiz
You guys are the worst analysts I've ever seen. You can't analyze a player with no experience when he gets only 6 carries. And if he would have broken that run for 30-40, you would be saying he's great! and how man ... people are horrible, honeslty. how can you be so down on the kid? when he plants that foot and cuts he shows great burst.
