ArmchairRedskin
again... its not the stats... its how he accumulated the stats... he didnt show anything that says he should be on an NFL roster. Minnesota is hard to run on. We're not exactly a good run blocking team. Had Davis not been tripped up on that one play he'd have gone for a good chunk. 6 carries is not a lot to go on. Premature. 2006Skins
Well, I don't think a guy's first game is one to judge him off of. The coaches say he's shown a lot in practice, therefore he gets chances on gameday. If he continues to work, then he will continue to get opportunities

Assuming you're right, don't you at least need to know the reasons he looked slow?

Seeing is believing, I just didnt see ANYTHING from him, instead I saw why he was a FA.
GaryGreenMonk
Torain's first start only yielded 40 yards on 16 carries. 2.5 yard average. I'd say it's a little too soon to turn up the judge's card on Davis after 6 carries. He's got burst, Just not any lanes. Torain ain't the answer either IMO. We currently do not have an answer at WR or RB on this roster. Torain may be servicable while we address positions in higher need areas. But he'll be like having a Johnathan Stewart type guy. We are multiple drafts away from fixing offense and defense. My guess is at least 3 drafts.

Why we switched is mind numbing. Unfortunately we are, as always, a LONG ways away from being a real competitor to the SB. Maybe if we have 3 perfect drafts in a row with some real gems found. McD5
Way too early to judge him. It isn't too early to know that cutting Betts in favor of "Slow" Willie Parker and Larry Johnson was an epic failure. We had to know there was no way Portis was going to last, and we could use Betts' running and receiving right now. Cutting Betts, playing Rabach.....this team has made some terrible mistakes at the FO level.
Conn
Are you guys serious? He had 6 ****ing carries to "show his stuff". The carry where he was tripped at the ankle (he didn't trip on his own, people), he showed burst, and would've had a gain that would have made this thread useless. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. I know. He didn't. But we didn't stick with the ground game, and we didn't show enough in the passing game after the first drive to back up the defense...oh, and we failed hard on every screen we tried, as well. So we didn't do anything to make the defense NOT pin its ears back. I saw a guy who got 6 measly carries behind a **** offensive line with NO interior, against one of the best run-stuffing D-Lines in football. I don't know what you were watching, but I saw plenty of burst, just no cut-back lanes. And one NASTY Portis-like block on McNabb's long ball to Armstrong. Take the gun away from your heads after this ****ty game and try to evaluate this rationally.
darrelgreenie
Keiland should have received more carries because he's used to our OL blocking or lack thereof he doesn't dance he gets whatever yards are there. They yards in this game were tough yards and that's Keiland's game. I don't think you can judge Davis from this 1 game. But, going by this game alone he didn't run very well and it looked like he went out too soon on some pass protections assignments and he dropped a routine catch. To borrow from Doc Walker he 'threw up on himself today' But that was the coaches fault. We shoulda went with Keiland today.
Travdaskin
Didn't see much but a guy who isn't starting material at RB. Looked like a career PS player but hey thats just me...

scruffylookin
Much like the quarterback position, I don't think we have a runner on the roster who will be around when and if we contend. No reason to single Davis out right now.
thehogs
At the start of the season the talk was how it would take time to get Portis and the zone blocking schemes of the O line in synch so I couldnt see this guy just turning up and suddenly cranking it out, nice idea though it would be. So, no he didnt look like what we need but right now we have nothing of what we need. Our run game has disappeared.

You saw plenty of holes and lanes to run through, and a RB who couldn't find them or cut back into them? That's interesting, because that didn't happen. Not even Adrian Peterson could run with our line!! i am not saying he's the "answer", But give him a chance!!! Hail!!
bulldog
Can anyone other than Barry Sanders run behind this line and look good?
GoDeep81
We didnt give much of a chance, but besides that, there's a reason he's available to be picked up this late in the season.. A young CP he's not..
rick7423
Let's see... a RB picked up off waivers in the middle of the season, been on Practice Squad for what, 2 weeks? Put onto 53 last week, Tuesday I think? Running in his first game with a team he does not know, against a D that is good against the run, ran for 6 carries with minimal yardage... Yea he sucks, get rid of him. You guys are just frigging unbelievable.
DGREENHULK
There was one play that if Davis wasn't shoe string tackled at the line he woukd still be running..Roydell had a block downfield and Davis was gone but.....Football is a game of inches...if he makes that run then the thread title is Davis IS the answer. BadKarma
Deangelo Williams IS the answer
Thirtyfive2seven
Barry Sanders wouldn't even be able to run with this offensive line. It's awful. Davis deserves plenty of chances - and I'm sure he'll get them. He looked ok considering.
Brandon Lloyd Christmas
i actually liked what i saw out of davis today. his cuts are extremely good, and he showed decent burst. although its kind of tough to get anything going at all when you run into a brick wall. the vikings have the best front 4 in the NFL, and a very good LB corp. we have a shaky oline, and this was davis' first start in the NFL. some people are going way overboard today about this game. were finally letting some rookies play and they make a few mistakes and people want them cut. shanahan is actually trying to make this roster younger. mistakes and growing pains are gonna happen. i hate that we lost too, but cmon. Skins3000
Last time I checked the Vikings have the William fellows up front. Kind of hard to run against those two dt so that was expected. In order to calm down a pass rush though you have to be able to run the football and the Giants will be coming hard next week. The Skins have to readjust that line one way or another.
