TK Posted November 25, 2010 Share Posted November 25, 2010 PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release November 25, 2010 REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed running back Andre Brown to their 53-man roster. The team also signed offensive lineman Jacob Bender to their practice squad. To make room on the roster, the Redskins placed running back Clinton Portis on the Reserved/Injured list. Brown (6-0, 224) was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent his entire rookie season on the Reserved/Injured list after rupturing his left Achilles tendon in training camp. Brown was released by the Giants on Sept. 4, 2010. He was signed to the Denver Broncos on Sept. 5 before being waived on Sept. 15. Brown was re-signed by the Broncos to their practice squad on Sept. 17, before being signed to their 53-man roster on Sept. 21. He played in three games with the Broncos (9/26 vs. Indianapolis, 10/3 at Tennessee, 10/10 at Baltimore) before being waived on Oct. 16. Brown was claimed off waivers by the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 18 before being waived on Nov. 1. He was signed to the Colts practice squad on Nov. 3 and then promoted to their 5-man roster on Nov. 7. He was waived by the Colts on Nov. 8 and claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 9 before being waived on Nov. 16. Brown was then signed to the Broncos practice squad on Nov. 18. Before entering the NFL, Brown played collegiately at North Carolina State, where he appeared in 44 games with 30 starts. He finished his career with 2,439 rushing yards on 523 attempts (4.9 avg.) with 22 touchdowns. He also added 70 receptions for 631 yards and two touchdowns and returned 17 kickoffs for 341 yards (20.1 avg.). Brown was born on Dec. 15, 1986, in Baltimore, Md. He attended Greenville (N.C.) Rose High School. Bender (6-6, 316) was originally drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played in two games during his rookie season with the Jets before being waived on Aug. 30, 2008. During the 2008 season, Bender was a member of the New England Patriots practice squad, San Francisco 49ers practice squad and active roster. He was inactive for four games with the 49ers and did not play in their season 2008 finale against the St. Louis Rams. Bender spent the 2009 season on the New York Giants practice squad. He was a member most recently the New Orleans Saints practice squad before being released on Sept. 28. Bender played collegiately at Nicholls State where he appeared in 42 games with 31 starts. He was born on April 25, 1985, in Mayo, Md., and attended DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Md. Portis (5-11, 218), in his seventh season with the Redskins and ninth season overall has rushed for 9,923 yards on 2,230 attempts (4.4 avg.) with 75 touchdowns. He started five games this season, rushing for 227 yards on 54 attempts (4.2 avg.) with two touchdowns and caught five passes for 55 yards.
