Grumpy Vet
Good evening all. My wife has a picture of my youngest daughter she really likes. She is trying to put it on a Christmas card. The problem is that the picture background is the license plate of her car. I tried photochopping it and failed miserably. I tried erasing the background - but when I try to put the foreground on something - it looks very fake. I'm not asking anyone to do this for me - I just need some direction. Perhaps I'm using too antiquated software or my Mad Grafix Skillz just aren't there as I approach my late 30s. I have Macromedia Fireworks 2004 and Adobe Photoshop 9....and MS Paint Warning - PSD and PNG files are large - approx 30 MB each Linked for your viewing pleasure: The original: http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/IMG_2831.JPG http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/IMG_2831.png Attempt 1 http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/JPEG.jpg http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/Untitled-3.psd Attempt 2 where I gave up: http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/JPEG2.jpg http://www.ihatedallas.com/Pics/Untitled-4.psd Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Happy Turkey Day. Sincerely, GV

rkrater
I used Photoshop CS5. Their masking selections are pretty good. Here is an example video :

PokerPacker
I use GIMP, as its a free photo-editing software. I suppose you're just trying to obscure the license plate. In GIMP, just highlight the plate, then on the menu on the top, go to Filters>Blur>(choose a blurring method) There, you can choose how you wish to blur, be it pixilation, or out of focus via gaussian... pretty simple. download gimp here: http://www.gimp.org/
Grumpy Vet
I'm shocked. Thank you very much rkrater. I really appreciate the effort. Mrs. GV will be thrilled. I figured it was a combination of poor user and inferior software. I hope you have a wonderful Turkey Day. Sincerely, Brian
