sjinhan
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/clinton-portis/in-addition-to-portis-ongoing.html Clinton Portis hopes to play SundayBy Jason Reid Redskins running back Clinton Portis hopes to play this week against Minnesota after an MRI exam revealed no new damage to his injured groin, Portis said Tuesday in a radio interview. During his regularly scheduled appearance on 106.7 The Fan's The UnWise Mike Show with Holden Kushner, Portis, who briefly returned to the lineup in the victory over Tennessee after missing five games, said he could play Sunday against the Vikings at FedEx Field if the swelling in his groin area decreases. "Hopefully, the swelling go down," Portis told Wise and Kushner. "The MRI didn't reveal anything new, so that was a great thing. That was great news. Right now, dealing with swelling, and hopefully that go down." Later in the interview, Portis reiterated that the MRI "looks pretty good. So far so good, you know? We're just waiting." ..... click link for rest
sjinhan
great news on Portis.. I might in the minority but I still think Portis gives us the best chance down the stretch for a playoff run... He might not be the future but he is the back we need NOW! santana_4_prez
I think he should rest. I would hate to see him get hurt 5 carries in again. Save it for the Giants...
SkinsCrushCowboys
glad he it is looking better, but I am concerned having him take an active roster spot if he is not 100%....taking a spot to play hurt and then sitting in street clothes is not good. He is a great blocking back, I doubt he plays.
#98QBKiller
Awesome news. CP is injury-prone at this point in his career, but he's still a difference maker when he's in there.
sjinhan
gotta love the following quote... Portis ran well in the first quarter of the Titans game, playing for the first time since suffering a severe groin tear during the Week 4 victory against Philadelphia. The nine-year veteran displayed shiftiness and acceleration while rushing for 32 yards (a 6.4-yard average) and catching one pass for a 14-yard gain. After the game, however, Portis acknowledged he was not fully recovered from the injury. But he said he owed it to the team to play, especially with Torain still out. "You never want to give up on your team," Portis said shortly after the game. "You don't know what's going to happen. "Just to be able to go out and be able to provide that initial spark to get guys going, for guys to see like, 'Man, he's really giving it all he's got,' you never know how that can ignite the team... If every week that's my role, then I can accept it." we need more players like Portis...
rick7423
Let the man rest. Divisional games are coming and we need him for those games. I want to see how Davis plays anyways.
NattyBo
Hold him out this week, we need him to help with pass protection against the Giants. Great news he's not done for the season though!

Jacoby6644
Very good news. Since the tema is most likely to be down a couple starters at O-line, it will be nice to have him in there if for nothing but blocking assignments.
Redskins4ever
Even if Clinton does play, he will aggravate the injury even more. He played well on his five carries though. Really, what could he do out there on the field playing with that groin injury? I understand that you always want to help the team win, but if he was sidelined because of the groin injury against the Titans, then more than likely the same thing will happen against the Vikings because the injury isn't anywhere near healed. dfitzo53
Honestly, I'd rather not see him push it. He's clearly having trouble staying healthy and there doesn't seem to be much point in taking a chance on tweaking it again. Portis's overall YPC is only marginally better than Williams's, although it was noticeably higher in the Titans game. (Tough to compare an average on 5 carries to an average on 23 carries though.) scruffylookin
If Torain is healthy, I'd hold CP out this week. But if CP is the healthier of the two, I'd have him active and ready to go if Williams gets hurt or is struggling. CP is a tough guy and will try to push to play but I'd hold him out as long as possible until we absolutely need him.

This is how I look at it as well Scruffy if Torain is able to go(which reports are saying its iffy if he is) then I'd let Torain go but if not and we can have Williams Davis and Portis then I'm down One thing that wouldn't surprise me is if they let both Torain and Portis sit and let Darrel Young be the #3 running back behind Williams and Davis

Like the heart shown by CP, would be nice to have that catch on...
KDawg
I love CP. Really wish his contract was more team friendly That said, sit him this week. Clearly he wasn't ready this week. The extra week of rest can only help. I'd rather have him be the beast that carries us than the spark that ignites us...

Speake
Check out the piece I just wrote on Clinton, while many here on ES are extremely educated on the Redskins, not all the fans are. I love CP and hope his legacy is remembered for the all the great moments. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/524766-clinton-portis-deserves-to-be-remembered-as-a-great-washington-redskin
KDawg
Good piece, Speake. I'd say it's accurate. Portis has been one hell of a player for this football team. Ranking 2nd in career rushing yards for the 'Skins is quite the accomplishment.
planter
If CP can go that's good news indeed. Or we could rest him for the playoffs...;-)
Speake
After 80 years of Redskins football, to be ranked second is extremely noteworthy. When he is out of the lineup, there is something missing from the offense. He has miles and miles of heart.
Jamzy
Having one of the best backfield blocking RB's in the league is an advantage all teams would love to have. Yet, I do believe Portis should sit one more week and be ready for NYG, etc. I am dying to see Davis get some touches and think Williams should be relied upon this coming Sunday. If we can pull off a nice game vs. Brett and the Purple Peckers, having Clinton ready to go for the remaining games, it could get very interesting down the stretch for our boys. Please Portis...don't rush it, we need you back 110% !
