beggarsnthieves
Hey Skins fans- I had a friend ask me recently whether the skins/nationals fans had any "traditions" while watching games outside of singing hail to the redskins. In philly they have that lame E-A-G-L-E-S chant and sell Schmitters. Unfortunately since I live in Philly and can't go to see live skins games, I don't know what goes on outside the game at Fed Ex. I mentioned the Hogettes and Chief Zee. Do you know of any other time-honored traditions that only skins fans would get? * Also, I mentioned the nationals only because its what she asked me. But we all know they are still just the Expos with a facelift. HTTR
dfitzo53
Trading away draft picks is kind of a time-honored Redskins tradition.
Boss_Hogg
Our fans tend to shout "O" during the national anthem.
hail2skins
I guess us having a band play before the game would be a tradition.....but then again, the band is also most known for its participation in HTTR after scores. I miss the first few years of the new stadium when the band was closer to the field on the sidelines....seems like they were part of the game more. I wonder if the inclusion of the "Enter Sandman" song this year at FedEx like they do at VT is going to stick. I didn't get to attend enough games at RFK to know of any traditions that were there. I remember they had some singers......didn't know if they were part of the band or not. One tradition I really miss that I hope starts again very soon.....multiple consecutive winning seasons! @DCGoldPants
I suggest this thread be used by some of the more rabid Skins fans to come up with something, in hopes of it spreading over the years. The Steelers have the best in the Terrible Towel. I don't want to rip that off. But something in that mindset. Something a Skins fan can carry with them wherever they go. hail2skins
Our fans tend to shout "O" during the national anthem. I forgot about this. I know many folks here (including myself) have been Orioles fans, but now that DC has a team, it just sounds stupid when it happens.

A fan card! I forgot about this. I know many folks here (including myself) have been Orioles fans, but now that DC has a team, it just sounds stupid when it happens. It sure does. I cringe every time. Leave that crap for the Ravens fans.
hail2skins
IRT to the OP, whatever you want to think about the E-A-G-L-E-S chant, if you go to a game up there, it seems like everyone in the stadium does it when they play the song, which makes the environment seem that more intimidating for opposing fans. HTTR is traditional and cool, but sometimes it seems as though not everyone is into it.
Larry Brown #43
HTTR is traditional and cool, but sometimes it seems as though not everyone is into it. People are into it when we're winning. On Monday night vs. Philly when we scored to pull within 28 points, people aren't going to be singing enthusiastically. But if we're beating Dallas and we score a TD, man people belt out Hail to the Redskins with pride.

I'd say someone should make a life size "Dallas" doll that can be thrown around the stadium and abused, regardless of who we're playing.
Skins-Canes-Mounties
Regarding "O," I agree. I've seen some loooooooong threads arguing about the O, but I will always stick to my belief that only Orioles fans should shout it! After all, I believe it started with Wild Bill at Orioles games. I guess people will be arguing about shouting "red" during the anthem in a few years once it expands beyond the Caps!

Which is why I think Ravens fans should continue doing it.
beggarsnthieves
Hail2skins - The only reason I call it lame is because I'm a skins fan living in Philly. I do wish we had something like that because downtown philly is like a premier league game on sundays. Everyone is chanting that walking around. It's own-able and easy for the "simple minded." haha. I agree fully that it helps the atmosphere out. I also mentioned the "Oh" to her. She thought it was lame. However, I do recall it being more of an O's thing, so maybe its more baltimore than DC like some of you had said.
TheGreatBuzz
Our fans tend to shout "O" during the national anthem. I grew up a Skins/Orioles fan so I know the O. And I hate it. Find it to be very disrespectful. Your National Antthem is not something to put in a stupid sound bite for you team for.
Bibby
When me and my other Redskin friend were in Detroit we would walk around the stadium and any Skins fan we see we'd just say "Hail" to them.
scruffylookin
I wouldn't dismiss singing Hail to the Redskins so easily and search for something else. Every fan of another team in the league wishes they had a fight song with the history, tradition and longevity of ours. When I hear the lame crap other teams got (Fly Eagle Fly? Really?) it makes me appreciate our tradition that much more. I also agree that our band has set the standard for any other. I still get goosebumps remembering the band breaking out into Hail to the Redskins in the pregame and of course singing along after a score in big December and January games. Our traditions and rituals are second to none.
Darth Tater
Traditions like the terrible towel only exist because the Steelers have rarely been full of suck since 1972. Had they had multiple years of suck, the tradition would at best be pretty dl. In fact, had it been us and not the Steelers who dominated the 70s, the terrible towel (probably have been called something different) would be our tradition. Since 1992, being good has been the exception as opposed to the rule for us and many of those things that would now be traditions went the way of the dodo or are little noticed. Boston Skins
E-A-G-L-E-S. Eagles fans know how to spell. We now know that and are all very impressed. Speaking of things that go on at FedEx Field before the games, the pre-game video of the fighter jets that blow up the opposing teams logo is just stupid. Seriously. The redskins media staff couldn't come up with anything besides that? You can't go wrong with video of previous plays from Redskins players. Just put up a vid of #21 lighting up a WR and be done with it
