Per Jay Glazer: Brad Childress Fired

There aren't many head coaches I don't have respect for, but Childress tops that very short list. the desperation he has shown in the way he brought Favre there both last year and this year, makes me believe he doesn't have any sort of plan or method of winning other than bringing in "superstars" to bail him out. He put himself in the position of having to kiss Favre's ass and play him when he should be benched. Moss handled his situation like a complete head case but IMO, he did have reason to be disgusted by what he saw there.

Fortunately, I don't think a head coaching change at this point will have the same dramatic effect for the vikings as it did for the cowgirls. The vikings don't have as much talent and were not under-performing as much as the cowboys were under Phillips. I don't see any big short term boost for them against us next week.

I'm not at all shocked by this. He was too dependant on Favre saving his ass. And I thought it was funny with everyone thinking that McNabb would go there. Course, too many people assumed that Childress would still have a job. I wasn't quite sold on that, particularly when he went to beg Favre not to retire.

Well that's just peachy.

Fired. In the week we play them. Nothing like giving a teram motivation.

Why us? Seriously, will we EVER catch a break.

Hail.

I don't think it will really matter as long as Favre's their QB. He'll continue to be his gunslinging self, taking hits and throwing INTs. We should be fine.

No, noooooo

I wanted him to remain with the Vikings here for next week.

Damn

I know, now that Vikings team will have a reason to play their asses off.

I am putting some coin on the Vikes against us. They will rally around whomever the IHC is and play some inspired football, not to mention we are one banged-up squad.

You're comparing Leslie Frazier to the Cowboy's 2nd coming of Vince Lombardi.

Hardly an even comparison.

Everybody is assuming that Childress begged for Favre to come back. I suspect the owner wanted Favre back a lot more than Childress wanted him back. The irony here is pretty thick. Childress was brought into the Vikings, not just for offensive production, but also to clean-up the organization after the riverboat scandal. He did that. And, he brought in Favre last year, not "to save his job", but because they didn't have a QB, just like Shanahan brought in McNabb this past off-season. Childress did everything that the Wilf clan wanted, except for a Super Bowl, up until releasing Moss. So, it's funny that Childress is pretty much fired for the very same reason that he was hired by Zygi and Mark Wilf. If Tavaris Jackson is ready to start, then Childress' main mistake is not benching Favre a long time ago, especially when his foot/ankle got re-injured. Though I have a feeling that Zygi Wilf likes big name players just like Danny does, which might explain why Favre is still going to start after Childress' firing and having practically no shot at the playoffs. And the firing seems more of a convenience now since Leslie Frazier will be a sought-after head coach in the off-season. So, in other words, Childress is just the scapegoat for the failings of the Wilf nepotistic organization that is the Minnesota Vikings.
