I'm tired of the negativity! Sick of it!

negativity: Redskins are just a cursed team and nobody seems to care about winning or showing good for the fans.

I AGREE I AM SICK OF HEARING THIS :D

constructive football criticism: the team committed too many penalties in Game X, the receivers were dropping passes in the open and the punter was providing the opposition with good field position at critical times.

CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS ENDEMIC TO WATCHING SPORTS

If you expect us to watch games and not comment on these factors of performance than you need to find somewhere else to go and something else to do.

Because that is what fans have been doing since the early days of the NFL in the 1920's :D

EXPECTATIONS.....son....EXPECTATIONS.......and professionalism.

Expectations are fine. And, of course, high standards are meant to be set by fans. But, that doesn't mean I'm not tired of people writing statements like, "I think this team stinks..." or "Is Spurrier a bust?" or "if the Jets score 14 we're in trouble". Hell, the man hasn't even coached his first regular season game of 2003, and we find ourselves, as fans, hanging our heads and shooting off negative comments about....well....every d@mn thing.

If it's high standards and expectations that are to be set, then let's see some thread-starters on THAT subject. You first, fansince62.

Good thread. GoSkins! I was thinking about a "chill" thread myself earlier. Everyone has to relax and take a deep breath.

It won't be easy, but I believe we'll be a major player this season

even if we just miss the playoffs.

I should've let you write it. Looks like you get ripped apart for being positive on this thread as well.

Fine...

1) I expect a FO that has a consistent game plan year in and year out for building a core long term team strength and then using the draft smartly each year to fill in holes and replenish losses. Is it just me or has it escaped others attention that other teams seem to hit the skids just like the skins but recover much faster because thay have a concept and keep to it?

2) I expect a coaching staff to cut people who don't perform. I expect to say so long to people who routinely drop passes or jump off-sides.

3) I expect leaders to surface who demand excellence.

4) I expect a team-full of Coles-like players who work overtime to become the best.

5) I expect a *ang QB who not only collects paychecks and reads clippings about his superior arm strength and native smarts but acts like a real LEADER on the field. Chewing folks out when they foul up. Energizing the team at key moments. Inspiring others to achieve better than they are capable of.

6) I expect a defensive line that "isn't good enough" but dominates. I want penetration on pass plays that trims at least 1 to 1.5 seconds of pocket time for the QB.

7) I expect bone rattling tackles. At the least, I demand better than much of the pop warner league arm tackling we have witnessed for the last 5 years.

8) I expect an offense - given all the tools on hand - that rocks this year. I demand a minimum of 21-24 points a game with at least three to four 30+ games.

9) I expect safeties who stop the deep threat while providing strong run support. No more 40 to 80 yard touchdowns on 3rd and long. That is nonsense.

10) I expect a goal line defense that holds on 4th and goal at least 50% off the time - enough to make the opposition prefer kicking the ball.

11) I expect kick-offs that drill into the end zone at least 50-70% of the time.

12 ) I expect enough blocking on kick returns that morton actually has a chance to earn his pay. Just enough to make kick returns a scoring/game turning option again.

13) I expect coaching that makes the critical adjustments at half time that wring victory from the jaws of defeat.

14) I expect not to be embarrassed on national TV by bonehead plays and lack of enthusiasm.

BUT MOST OF ALL.....I EXPECT...NO DEMAND...THAT WE WIN. This isn't a gentleman's game. Knock em on their arses and move on to the next victims.

Didn't say anything about what games you watch or what comments you make on "factors of performance". What I DID say was that I'm tired of NEGATIVE comments. Do you really think I'm going to sit at home and WONDER what game you're watching or how you feel at the time you're watching it? Sure, comments will be made, negatively AND positively. And I will make arguments to both. Yup, you're right, that IS what fans have been doing since the early days of the NFL in the '20's. That's probably one of the main reasons this thread was started. Dontcha think? ;)

Well, I always post what I think so why stop now?

I feel that the negativity from Redskin fans has obviously come from the results of the past few seasons for you guys. It is only natural to be weary of what is to come for your team. I am sure all those Skins fans who are being negative still think that the team has a great chance of accomplishing good things this year including a trip to the playoffs but the past several years has taught them to be cautiously optimistic instead of just expecting the Skins to win.

To be honest, I was here when the Skins had the offseason of all offseasons. Or so it appeared they did. A lot of the fans on this board were already ordering their playoff tickets before the season even started. It is seasons like that that will make you have more of a wait and see attitude.

And, a lot of you don't understand why the media is so down on the Skins considering all of the offseason acquisitions the Skins made. Well, I've mentioned the reason already which is that we have been here and done that. The truth of it is, is that until the Skins have a winning and playoff season, a lot of people will doubt the franchise. It isn't what have you done for me, it is, what have you done for me lately? Well, you all know the Skins have not done much lately.

I will be the first to admit that the Skins did go about this offseason a lot differently than they have been doing in that not only did they go after accomplished players like 2000, but, unlike 2000 the players they acquired are not at the end of their careers. That is why I believe the Skins will be improved. And hey, they may not make the playoffs this year but I do believe that at the very latest, 2004 is going to be a playoff year for the Skins.

We are at the time of the football season where fans of every team have playoff aspirations and Super Bowl dreams. But, with those aspirations comes caution of some kind for every fan base based on what their team has done in the recent past.

I think I have said enough on the topic.

As a veteran of a few other forums, I have discovered that the minority of the posters post the majority of the negative posting. Mostly, they are negative people in real life as well, who have alienated any friends that they may have had. they have now turned their attention to the internet in general and forums in particular where they can post all their negative thoughts, complaints, and general displeasure with everything.

They are the complainers at work.

Look at that person two cubicles down, who always finds fault with everything. That's the one. There is your negative poster.

Everybody has their moments. Even on chat boards. Sometimes some will react first then think about it and too late go for the edit button. Oh,I will agree that there are a couple here who are responsible for the majority of the negative comments here but as I said, we all have our moments. the author of this thread, even me. :silly: Just breath, have a drink and go "oh well", and visit the babe thread. :D (Or the "other" babe thread if your one of the posters of the fairer, calmer gender.

I am as optimistic as most fans are at the dawn of a new season.Right now I am absolutely stoked for Thursday night! I can't wait! That being said, there are still some things at the back of my mind that do concern me about this team. I think every fan has those type of issues. I have not been able to watch hardly any of the pre-season games and maybe that's why I am overly cautious concerning our team. My main worries concern the D-line which I believe alot of fans here share concern for. As for QB,I do believe Ramsey will be a good one given time via OTJ training. I just have this weird feeling that come Thursday night,I'll be yelling at my TV saying the same thing I did the last few years..."Where's the pass rush??!!" and " Why can't we stop the run??!!"....
