Zguy28
I'm interested in the Tailgate's take on this one. The question that comes to mind is: is this any different than an actor playing a Nazi or German officer in a movie?
AsburySkinsFan
I'm interested in the Tailgate's take on this one.The question that comes to mind is: is this any different than an actor playing a Nazi or German officer in a movie? When you're a politician...yes. Especially when the GOP has been routinely screaming that Obama and the Libs are Nazis. There are things that you are more than free to do, and there are things that if you are in the public eye you should be prepared to accept the fall out from. Popeman38
Yet Robert Byrd was a Dem hero, even though he was a KKK member?

Kilmer17
No different than civil war reenactments. The left is in full panic mode if this is their best shot.
Zguy28
Apparently they play the part of a German SS Panzer unit in the WWII re-enactments. Here are the pics:
GoSkins561
No big deal, he was in a WWII reenactment , not a porno. How is one suppose to have a WWII reenactment without a Nazi?
SKINS@THEGOALLINE
Dressing up as one of the people responsible for perhaps the biggest atrocity in human history doesn't seem like a good idea, especially if you're seeking office.
Corcaigh
It does seems a ludicrous topic to make a fuss over unless he has an actual association with a neo-Nazi group, or shown actual Antisemitism.

Duh, according to some comments I've been reading form the Left on other sites, either nobody should represent the other side or this is why there should not be re-enactments at all. That was my opinion when I first read it. I was like "this is news?"
alexey
I do not see anything particularly wrong with this... although I don't think it's a smart thing for a politician to do. Personally, I would not put on a Nazi uniform for any purpose. There is just too much pain associated with that part of history.

alexey
Apparently they play the part of a German SS Panzer unit in the WWII re-enactments. I wonder if they re-enact rolling into a village, getting all inhabitants into a building, and burning it to the ground with all the people while shooting those who try to escape... [[ghost]]
It seems innocent in intention, but an extremely foolish thing for a politician to do. Maybe if he was something less dependent on public image, like an actor or publicist.
alexey
Not even if you were an extra in a Tom Cruise movie? I would not. I would not even do it for a documentary film. (I don't think it's the wrong thing to do... it's just that I repress comprehension of what happened as a way to deal with the pain)
Jumbo
!. I think it's key that he said he didn't agree with what the Nazi's did to the Jews. 2. Hitler believed in witches! Being part of a WWII reenactment should be a non-story unless there some whacko aspect underlying participation (which I have heard nothing of on this matter). elkabong82
It was a re-enactment, some people have to play the bad guys, just like in any other re-enactment, plus the politician said he in no way endorses what the Nazis did. This should be a non-story IMO.
Jumbo
Here's the rundown--- all things dem/left = incompetent/idiotic/anti-real-america  all things GOP/right = magical-thinking bigoted whackjob hypocrites who love america  both equally share corruption and absence of honor, integrity, honesty, and most other commonly recognized higher virtues  they should all be sentenced to message boards!!!!!! :pfft:
jpyaks3
Seems like a weird thing to be up in arms about. Unless there is something else to the story it seems like the guy just likes being a historical re-enactor. Someone has to play as the bad guys in that situation. Probably not the best thing for his political career but I don't really see why this is a big story.
Jumbo
Does owning a Confederate Army Uniform make one a supporter of slavery? I think it's a good marketing strategy to dress for the job.
