Let there be no mistake...the Packers didn't lose; the Redskins won that game

There seems to be some meme in the local media this morning that the Redskins got lucky again to win the game against the Packers, similar to how luck won the Dallas and Philly games.

Lets make it clear, the Redskins went out and won that game yesterday, injuries or no injuries to the Packers.

The defense putting up a huge goal line stand in the 1st half, with Lorenzo making the big play on 4th and 1.

Adjusting and playing the 3 safety set which prevented the big over the top big plays for GB.

Getting the FG before the half. That FG was a result of McNabb and Sanatana making a big play

Down 13-3, going on a 13-0 run. Brandon Banks with another big time punt return (does anyone miss ARE? :ols: )

McNabb making another big play on the TD pass to Armstrong. And how about Armstrong going up and winning a 1 on 1 jump ball battle?

Orakpo's OT sack. Landry's OT INT. Gano finishing the job.

The Redskins hung around, hung around and then went out and made the plays to win the game. There wasn't some lucky bounce or an o-lineman catching a pass and fumbling it, this was a team that went out, stuck together, played mistake free ball and won the game

On a side note: How does Clay Matthews go from 2 year walk on at USC (playing with Brian Cushing I might add) and turn into a 21st century Lawerence Taylor?

I do think Matthews injury was a huge factor in perhaps buying McNabb just enough time to make additional stuff happening to allow us to prevail.

But injuries are a part of the game and the Skins are finding enough resilance to prevail in some of these games. Still too early to determine how this team is going to wind up this season, but reading out the league early suggests that Washington should at least be in the mix as crunch time comes around in December.

the 4th quarter and OT our D' stepped up huge....and took control of the game.....as I always say, "It's not how you start, but how you finish", their D' controlled our O for 3 quarters, and their O was having it's way between the 20's on our D' up till the 4th quarter......our D' these last 2 weeks has played pretty good ball imho....

Good thread SHF...

On the injury front too, let's not forget that our physical play has been responsible for a number of the injuries our opponents are suffering. I'm not saying we're doing anything bad, but it's not like all of these teams ONLY come in hobbled. The LEAVE worse off. We knocked out Vick. We banged up Andre Johnson. We beat up McCoy. We concussed Rodgers and knocked out two GB TEs.

So, maybe we're making our own luck to an extent by hitting legally and hard.

Keep in mind that we had injuries too, notably Portis who would have helped out immensely in pass blocking.

Of course, we had a couple injuries on offense. However, objectively speaking, the Packers were more banged up coming into (and leaving!) this game than we were. But, that's all part of professional football. We've had plenty of seasons where we've lost key personnel for significant amounts of time. If you're going to win a championship (as the Packers apparently believe they can this year), you have to be able to manage or avoid injuries. We should NOT feel like we need to apologize for winning against a team that wasn't at full strength...but to ignore it would be naive as well.

This is easily a game that a redskins team in the past 10 years would have lost. I completely agree that this is a legit win by the redskins.

Yeah, the difference is McNabb. We now have the capability of coming back when down 2 scores. We will win a few more of these close games that we have traditionally lost because of him. Other than him, we are not a better team. A legit win. 8-8 this year.

Yeah the media can keep making injury excuses but the injuries were caused by the Skins being more physical overall. Skins a re developing a smashmouth football team mentally which is a big part of being able to come back. This "We're gonna beat the crap out of you until we have the chance to win this game" idea is slowly translating into points and wins. Many times the most physical/intimidating team wins the game and slowly the Skins are becoming that team.

They really did fight their guts out...

:silly:

But seriously. This team fights. I love it.

And unless we blow out teams by 30+ points, other games will be seen as "lucky" as well. And that's fine. We'll luck our way right up to the playoffs.

The cowboys are still seen as "good." We're seen as lucky. Oh...what's that old saying? :silly:

I have something slightly unsavory and pretty horrible to say....so bear with me. Its not even something I really believe, its just something I yelled out in frustration yesterday during the game:

If I were the NFL, I'd test Clay Mathews for PED's immediately.

For two reasons:

1. Putting together his production, which is easily on pace to break records, with the fact that one of his LB team mates from college got caught for PED's, it seems pretty rational that he also could be on them.

2. Just to be SURE. You do NOT want a guy breaking the league's season sack record, and then getting caught for PED's the following year. So test his ass early, and clear his name on the DL before it has the potential to become a problem.

Now, I don't think that I really believe he's on anything...but that's just how my brain works. I see a guy leading the league in something, and the recognition he could get for breaking a record, and I think of the potential ramifications for the sport if it turns out to be bogus.

Breaking records are good for a sport. If its legit. Because cheating usually is not.

We did the same thing we've been doing all season line: playing physical and taking chances. Do those chances always work out? Not at all; but they work out enough for us to go into the locker room with a W, or at least a narrow loss.

I've got more than my share of complaints with the Redskins right now, and they're far from some of the great teams this team has fielded in the past; but this team seems to have something other teams didn't have: heart. I mean, like some one said, a decade ago, this game would have been a loss easily.

Very good idea, but as far as we know, they have been testing him. We only hear about a players tests when they fail. I think it would be great if we were watching history being made by this guy, as long as it isn't against our beloved 'Skins!

While I understand people's claims that we are just "lucky", the fact is that good teams create their own luck. I'm starting to buy into the fact that we MUST be a good team because the ball is suddenly bouncing our way more often than not.
