Open Letter to Thom Loverro

Thom I have no Idea who you are, or who you think you are. Next time you better think twice before you go on the radio and attack one of the Redskins most prolific and beloved players Clinton Portis. Especially after the guy got hurt playing his heart our to help deliver a much need win over a NFC East opponent Thom if you have any since of professionalism you will take you and your sorry piece as featured on the Redskins Pre Game Show to Redskins Park and read it to Clinton in person, no better yet read it to the whole team. I bet you won't get a very warm reception to your visit. Last time I checked ESPN 980 is the "Home of the Redskins". After the last two years of what Redskins fans have had to suffer through, we don't need your type of negativity on the "Home of the Redskins". I expect a full apology to Clinton Portis, The Washington Redskins, and the Fans. I hope that your Program Director or the General Manager of the Stations deals with you in an appropriate manner too. Thom if you don't like the Redskins get a job in Baltimore, Philly or even Dallas, but don't stay here in Washington and write garbage about our players and our team. The Redskins and their Fans deserve better! HTTR.

I wouldn't call Clinton Portis a "beloved" player at all. I for one will be glad when he's gone.

really?? What a HATER. CP gave his everything for the Redskins. Gibbs wanted him to put on weight and be a between the tackle guy and he did it. Shanny wanted him quicker and shiftier and he lost the weight and did it. Can't believe some people. CP WAS the Redskins. He is the only reason we made the playoffs.

I too am curious as to exactly what he said. So without knowing what he said or the context of it I won't comment specifically to Loverro however I do find some people's opinion on Clinton Portis to be a very interesting case study.

Here we have the second most productive runner in team history. We have a guy who is in the top ten in team history for combined yards. We have a guy who in yards per game played, trumps every player to to suit up in a Redskins uniform except a kick/punt return guy (BMitch).

Yet it seems as if Clinton is held responsible for the failings of this franchise over the last 7 seasons (and by extension the Snyder Era). He has sort of replaced LaVar as "the face" of the (to date) failed Snyder Era.

This is what I always find most frustrating when it comes to fan critique of Clinton. His play, talent and effort is one of the few things that have gone right these last seven seasons yet he seems to bear the brunt of the frustration, anger and disappointment of that time.

I just don't get it. For whatever faults Clinton has, be they real or imagined, they most certainly do not overshadow what he has accomplished and done for this franchise. Well at least not to me anyway.

I don't think I have ever seen a player for the Skins as productive as Clinton (a pretty select group) get more **** thrown his way. I guess it all goes back to the wins and the losses. Winning cures alot of things.

I can cite my favorite Skin of all time Gary Clark as an example. His sideline outbursts. Yelling at coaches and QBs are viewed as "firey" and "passionate" because the team won. Had he done that on a losing team, even if he maintained his on field production, that behavior would be viewed and remembered very differently.

I suppose I'm guilty of this too with Laron Landry. I absolutely detest his posing and strutting. It makes me furious. However I suspect if the Redskins won more, it wouldn't bother me as much.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing/hearing what Loverro said.

If we learned anything from yesterday's game, its how much Clinton Portis means to our pass protection. I doubt McNabb gets sacked 5 times if CP is back there blocking.

Agreed. Also I think CP was our biggest fan yesterday. Dude has passion for the Redskins

I will second this one, he was on the side lines 'coaching' up Torrain! Say what you want about CP, he is a one of the best guys on the team. Unfortunately, he really hurt his reputation with some by having a holier than though attitude and a (suspected) private entrance to Snyder's office.

You are right, he gave "everything" to the Redskins. Yes, he challenged his coach in media, threw his OL under a bus, cried to the coach to bench other players, sat out practices because he thought he didn't want to, ran to the owner whenever things didn't go his way, takes a dive on plays. Please dude, take that crap to somebody who believes what you are shoveling. I'm not even going to bring up the stupid comments about dog fighting and women reporters. Opps...too late, I just did.

He also was the last person off the field after the Bengals game in '08 and acknowledged 2 Redskins fans who were calling out all the player's names trying to get their attention, and came over and gave each of them one of his game used gloves...

I never said he wasn't good with the fans. Quite the contrary, I hear he goes out of his way for the fans, so I give him props for that. If he only shut his mouth, I wouldn't have a problem with CP. As it is, he can't so I do.

Thom Lavarro is an insufferable windbag for the most part. His presence on Kevin Sheehan's show is unneeded -- IMO they whould let him go and give Al Galdy (sp?) his slot.

Lovarro picks against the Redskins every week (not shocking because he's just a casual Skins fan at most), and he tries to push agendas and his silly ideas over and over again. If the Skins played against the Miami Hurricane, he would find some silly reason to pick against the Skins. And he's agenda against Portis is so obvious and blatant -- when Portis has a good game, he's quiet as a mouse. But when CP has a mediocre to poor one, he's the leader of the crusade to get rid of Portis.

980 needs to let this guy go. He's just annoying and a non-factor as a radio personality.

On a side note, why does 980 have the most annoying side commentators? Lovvaro is insufferable. Holden Kushner (sp) is just awful and is annoying as well. No wonder 106.7 is kicking their butts in the ratings....

Lets see -

1) OL was playing like crap - CP called them out and if I recall they OL played better -- Sounds to me like he lit a fire under their ass...

2) Calling for Sellers to be benched -- As much as I like Sellers, he has declined as a FB and if he can't make his blocks to spring CP for a TD on a run from the three yardline and CLEARLY missed his block, I'd do the same. Put someone in that can block

3) CP gave his all and was often injured and it's not his fault Zorn had no balls and wouldn't put his foot down. If CP needed the week to get healthy and Zorn allowed it how can you blame the player?

4) Ok this one is yours -- running to the owner

5) Taking a dive... HMMMMM 27 yard run and the ball or 31 yard run and fumble??? Yea ill say he made the right choice there.

Oops almost forgot - Calling out the coach... WHO HAD NO BUSINESS BEING A HEAD COACH - Zorn lost this team after the first season he was with us...

Get over it CP speaks his mind and if your not used to it then I don't know what to tell you. You can't deny his passion for the game and the Redskins.

Basically, His overall tone was that Clinton Portis was more trouble than he was worth, and that the Redskins were better off without him, and that CP has played his last down in a Redskins Uniform. Even if that was true this is not time, and ESPN 980 is not the place. I am sure that Donovan McNabb will tell you the Redskins aren't better off without Clinton. There is nobody in football that plays harder, with more heart and intensity than Clinton Portis. Clinton might say some outlandish things from time to time, but that is it. You don't see Clinton getting arrested, or suspended or what ever. Thom Loverro next time you are at Fed Ex all you have to do is count the #26 jerseys, and then you will understand the value of Clinton Portis. If Clinton's career is over, he should be celebrated, not given a journalistic beatdown. Save the beatdowns for those who deserve it like the other teams.. Please make the "Home of the Redskins" the "Home of the Redskins" and stop s*!ting where you sleep.

The point isn't whether CP was right or wrong, it's that he was doing all of this publicly.

I get that but this was all while who was head coach??? Jim ****ING Zorn... He would go over the whole game plan with the media and put it all out there. I haven't heard CP say a peep about anyone on the Redskins since Shanny has been here. Either way you can't deny what CP has done for the Redskins

Anyone watching the game yesterday knows how this team needs Portis...there was one sack in general the packers player came right through where Portis usually is.

All of us at the bar looked at each other and agreed...if Portis was in the game, that sack doesn't happen.
