True or False: The 2010 Washington Redskins have below average talent, but above average (and possibly better) coaching

Sounds about right, IMO. The Redskins are not the divisions most talented team, but they may be the toughest, and perhaps the best coached.

We all have gone over many times the level of talent on this team at certain spots, but they do have a good coaching staff and it is showing up in the wins.

Although four of the five games have come down to the final play, you could argue almost that under previous coaching staffs, they would not have even been in the game in the 4th quarter.

The coaches are doing what they can with the limited talent they have at certain spots (interior line, wide receiver, defensive line) and showcasing the teams strengths (QB, outside linebacker, TE, punt returner). Sounds like a simple thing that any coach would do, but we know that has not been the case in Washington over the last few years.

The coaching for the most part is what has excited me because after (potentially) a few good offseasons, this team may not only be a well coached team, but a far younger and more talented team as a whole. Shanahan will continue to covet players (whether role player or stud) who fit the scheme and that is a plus.

All you can hope for is the opportunity for them to build this thing up.

It's true we got allstars, but are thin on talent as a team. Not much depth, and old! The biggest difference so far this year has indeed been the coaching.

Mike and Kyle are no-brainers. For all the flak Haslett gets for the 3-4, do you guys see Blanche's 4-3 making stops when we need them?

No way. This team is talented, it's just not showing it all quite yet. It's only been together for 5 games.

I think as far as being 'top heavy', we have some talented guys, but there is not enough depth on the team, and young depth at that.

I think it's a good sign Shanahan is turning to guys like Banks, Armstrong, Torrain, and Kory Lich (even though he got owned). He does want to get younger.

That being said, I never meant it in a way that suggested we better have the most talented team in the league or else we lose.

I meant to say that this coaching staff not only is using their personnel effectively, but rallying this team together so that they believe when its crunch time.

Talent is not the only barometer of a teams success, hence the thread.

There's no poll?

I'd say that we have uneven talent. We have some positions we're we are just weak and some where we are well above average. Coaching is really seen in the team discipline and never say die attitude.

Right, and I said that in the post above yours about how they believe int he 4th quarter and since this team is far more united than past units, we can come through.

I would say.........we have a solid team that can win ugly and can give up a lot of yards whitout letting the opponents score.

I am watching this and thinking.....how the hell did we winn this.

Can we winn enough games like this to make a run deep into the playoffs. I gess we can..if we keep beeing lucky and step up when we need to.

Coaching staff doens´t make us winn, it is always a combination.......players(talent) and coaching.

True,

But I think it’s still too early to tell how talented our team is. New offense and defensive systems. I know this is the same mantra every year, but when every thing around you is crap it’s hard to rise above. We’ll see, we may not be as crappy as you think.

This is the first game that I can say we may have outcoached the opponent. We made the proper adjustments, which is the important part of the game. They still made a lot of mistakes, but a key thing was the ability to get pressure on Rodgers, and the switching from run run pass to pass pass pass. Those were essential switches.

I think it's amusing that people think when a guy has one great game or season he's a great player suddenly. Heck Reggie Brookes looked like our RB for 10 years after his rookie season.

Shanahan has turned our 4-12 team into a winner, close or not. It's amazing to me that we've been as successful as we have so far. I figured we were a 6-10 team, 7-9 with a TON of luck, but we're 3-2 right now.

I love our new coaching staff. I just want to see what we can do with a normal offseason, draft, FA, ect. I really want to see where we're at during the year after next, that's when I see us REALLY being dangerous.

This. Orakpo, Landry, and seemingly Trent are STUDS.

I don't know about below average. We have are really good QB, WR, TE, and blossoming LT. On Defense we have two legit playmakers in Orakpo and Landry. Hall, Rogers, and Fletcher are also well above average at their positions. Then there is Haynesworth who is an x-factor.

We lack depth and we are EXTREMELY weak in quite a few positons though, so it evens out to about average talent.

But we are well coached and have the most important thing: a legit QB who can win games for you. Without McNabb we'd be 1-4 at best but likely 0-5.

The Skins outcoached the Cowboys by a mile the game they played.

True. Talent wise we suck. Scheming and coaching wise we seem top notch. I think we would be even better with a base 4-3 defense but oh well. I think we'll pull out enough wins to make a playoff run. Would love to win our division. Dallas looks to be done. It's a race between us, the G-men and the Eagles. We already have a 1 up on the Eagles.

I don't know I think the 3-4 is starting to come around. A lot of today's sacks/pressures came from just pure confusion by the Packers not knowing who was coming, and Orakpo is starting to come into his own as a 3-4 edge rusher.

Absolutely true. I have no doubt that if this team was poorly coached they would've given up at the half and been blown out today. They've had enough heart to get 3 out of 5 wins this year, all against teams everyone expected them to lose to, including 2 big division wins. It's definitely heart from the players and leadership from the coaching staff and QB. Once more talent is added to the O-line and skill positions, this team could be scary good. But I'll def take what we have being 3-2 and a wide open division.

based on what? I did't see us adjusting to Austin. I didn't see us stopping the run. I didn't see us moving the ball. All I saw was Garrett giving up on the run, and their OL holding Orakpo. That won us the game, but I won't put that in the category of good coaching. Maybe we outcoached based on the ineptness of the Cowboys, but we didn't make adjustments, and so I don't think we outcoached anybody. .
