TK
ES Coverage: 2010 Redskins vs Packers 10/17/10 VICTORY!!! Redskins 16 - Packers 13 (in Overtime) :helmet: Both teams come into this matchup coming off a win last week. Skins beating out the Eagles by five points on the road and the Pack beating out the Lions in Green Bay by two points. Let’s cut open the cheese here and take a look. Or as Dirty Thirty would say, let’s get to the “meat n potatoes”. PACKER’S DEFENSIVE SPOTLIGHT Charles Woodson is a scary man. He will line up at Left Corner Back in the Pack’s base Defense but they like to move him to Right Corner Back & Safety in their sub packages. He was named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 2000s. He was the Defensive Player of the Year last season with a career-high nine interceptions. He was the first player to win Defensive Player of the Month three times in one year. He leads the NFL in interceptions since 2008 with 17, and has returned 10 career picks for touchdowns. That being said, it took him four weeks to get his first interception this year, coming against the Detroit Loins to start the 3rd Quarter. Oh, and it was for 48 yards and a touchdown. You can watch it here. Woodson will bite on a double move allowing a receiver to get open, which makes for a great opportunity for Santana Moss. PACKER’S OFFENSIVE SPOTLIGHT Pro Bowl QB Aaron Rogers likes to go deep. Often. Last week against the Lions he threw for 3 first-half touchdowns, 181 yards, and 2 INTs. Take a look here. Rogers should have a bit harder time trying to go deep against Haslett’s 3-4 Defense. This Skins defense likes to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. It’s partly how they took the Eagles DeSean Jackson out of last week’s game in Philly. Teams have been hard pressed to go down field against this Defense. With Haynesworth being out today for his step brother’s funereal, after his outstanding performance last week, the Skins will face some challenges in keeping the pressure on Aaron Rogers, forcing him to abandon the deep ball and stick to the dink and dunk passing game. Rogers enters with five INTs in four games. Again, throwing two last week, in the first half. Expect either Hall or Moore to have at least pick today, and Carlos, well he had this to say “If you think about it, I dropped an easy interception against Dallas,” Rogers said. “The next week against the Texans, I came back and got a pick. Against the Eagles I should have had another one, so that means I’m going to get one this week against Green Bay. If the ball comes my way and I’ve got the chance, I’m getting a pick this week. I guarantee it.” Like Murf, I wouldn’t bet the house, either. Heck, I wouldn’t even put money on it, guarantee or not. Now I’d change that if the League allows the use of Stickum before kickoff. Green Bay’s Offense is currently ranked 14th in passing yards with 226.8 and ranked 22nd in rushing yards with 94.5. So again, if Haslett can keep the pressure on Rogers, take away the deep ball, then the Pack become very one dimensional. Aaron Rogers (QB rating of 96.3) has already been sacked five times for a total loss of 33 yards this season. Last year, he was the most sacked (50 times) QB in the League. Look for him to get planted butt down in the dirt several times today as his O-Line is leaky. The only way for the Packers to prevent this is to do what the Eagles did last week to save Kolb’s bacon. And that’s to simply hold Orakpo. Washington’s Offense is currently ranked 13th in passing yards with 230.2 and ranked 19th in rushing yards with 98.0. It’s a pretty close match with Green Bay’s ranking. However, Washington’s problem tends to come in the 2nd half. Don’t get me wrong, they can still move the ball. They just don’t seem to be able to move it into the Endzone after half time. Against Dallas, the Skins scored 10 points in the first half. Only 3 points in the second half. Against Houston, the Skins scored 20 points in the first half. Only 7 points in the second half. Against St. Louis, the Skins scored 13 points in the first half. Only 3 points in the second half. Against Philly, the Skins scored 17 points in the first half. They failed to score at all in the second half. Two field goals and a single touchdown in the second half for four games. It’s not very pretty, but it has gotten the Skins to a 2-2 record. Imagine where they’d be sitting at if they could match their first half offensive output in the second half. Either way, this game shouldn’t be a stinker as both teams match up with each other pretty well. Although I’d give a slight advantage to the Skins for 1) playing at home, and 2) actually having found their running game last week with Torain. The Heyer Effect With the return of first round draft pick Trent Williams, the “Heyer Effect” should well be neutralized. The “Heyer Effect” caused two penalties against the Eagles for 15 yards. He only had one penalty for five yards against the Rams. Against the Texans he only had one penalty called for ten yards. Against the Cowboys he was called for an Ineligible Downfield Pass, but the penalty was declined. WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK • The Redskins’ selling out a home game for the 353rd consecutive time, including playoffs. It will mark the 133rd consecutive sellout at FedExField, which accounts for all regular season, postseason and preseason contests. • The Redskins winning consecutive games for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 7-8) against Cleveland and at Detroit, respectively. • The Redskins winning consecutive games against teams with winning records for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 2-3) against New Orleans and Arizona, respectively. • The Redskins winning three consecutive games against NFC teams for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 3-5) against Arizona, at Dallas and at Philadelphia, respectively. • The Redskins playing the Packers for the first time since Oct. 14, 2007, when the Packers won, 17-14, in Green Bay. • The Redskins hosting the Packers at FedExField for the first time since Oct. 31, 2004, a 28-14 Packers victory. With eight catches, Galloway would become the 31st receiver in NFL history to record 700 career catches. • Galloway catching two touchdowns, which would give him 79 for his career and match him with Harold Carmichael, Redskins Legend Charley Taylor and Pittsburgh’s Hines Ward for 22nd in NFL history. • Quarterback Donovan McNabb registering 411 passing yards and surpassing Steve DeBerg (34,241) for 18th place on the NFL’s all-time passing list. • McNabb completing four passes and passing Steve DeBerg and Hall of Famer Jim Kelly (2,830) for the 15th-most in NFL history. With 28 completions McNabb would pass Hall of Famer Troy Aikman (2,898) for 14th all-time. • McNabb rushing for 61 yards and moving past John Elway (3,407) into sixth place for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history. • Safety Kareem Moore registering a takeaway for the third consecutive game and becoming the first Redskins player to do so since Sean Taylor in 2007 when he had interceptions in each contest from Week 5 to Week 7. • Wide receiver Santana Moss adding to his 7,733 career receiving yards, which is tied with Anthony Carter for 87th on the NFL’s all-time list. With more than 112 yards on Sunday, Moss would pass Carter, Bobby Engram (7,751), Drew Pearson (7,822) and Plaxico Burress (7,845). • Moss catching four passes and moving past Chris Chambers (523, active) and Brett Perriman (525) into the 95th spot on the NFL’s all-time receptions list. A REDSKINS WIN WOULD... • Start the Redskins at 3-2 or better for the third time in four seasons. • Give the Redskins back-to-back wins for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 7-8) against Cleveland and at Detroit, respectively. • Give the Redskins consecutive wins against teams with winning records for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 2-3) against New Orleans and Arizona, respectively. • Signify the Redskins winning three consecutive games against NFC teams for the first time since 2008 (Weeks 3-5) against Arizona, at Dallas and at Philadelphia, respectively. • Start the Redskins 3-0 in conference games for the first time since 2005, when they opened the season with wins over Chicago, Dallas and Seattle. • Give the Redskins a share of the NFC East lead after Week 5 for the first time since 2005, when they were tied with the Giants at 3-1. • Be the Redskins’ first over the Packers since Oct. 23, 1988, at Milwaukee. • Mark the Redskins first home victory over the Packers since Dec. 2, 1979, a 38-21 triumph at RFK Stadium. • Snap a four-game losing streak against the Packers (2001-02, 04, 07). Est.1974
I'm surprised that Dockery is inactive. Barring injury, Looks like Dock could struggle from here on in. I think when he re-signed, he did so with a small SB but ~$5m year on year salaries. Can't see that lasting past 2010 at this rate. Anyway, Thanks for the update TK. I'm backing Santana today. Conn
Hmmm. Well personally, I never listen to the audio from the players. I'd love transcripts of course, but that's a ridiculous request, so I won't make it I also know that others probably love the audio clips, especially since you can actually hear the tone and context of whatever they say. Honestly, I think you guys do a great job on everything that I can think of. You all add a level of "being there" that almost, ALMOST makes up for the fact that many of us CAN'T be there. So thank you

So thank you If you only listen to one audio clip, I'd highly recommend it being the one with Carlos Rogers. He swore to me he was going to get an interception this week, so he knew I was going to find him in the locker room after the game and was laughing as soon as he saw me. It's a very lighthearted and fun interview and was pretty enjoyable to be a part of.

Let us know what's working for you guys & what you couldn't care less about so we can continue to improve. I miss the blog like entries you guys used to do at the end of the coverage. Also miss the Art style blog of the trip. Probably can't do those every time, but I bet sometimes some cool behind the scenes stuff goes on. Mark The Homer
I really like the videos - all of them. The ES Crib vids are a nice ES-personal connection. And the stadium vids gives those who don't have a chance to go to games a look at some of the stadium flavor that's never seen.

TK
TK, when I was looking through the album, I was thinking the same thing. :rotflmao: We were laughing about those last night while uploading them. Notice though, he's got a straw instead of the famous toothpick. I saw him come out during the Dallas game the same way. I swear if he ever throws up a Wolfpack hand sign I'm going to loose it.
