TBD: Shanahan: Bradford "comes around once every 10 years"

Not to re-hash a pre draft argument, but I think its obvious what plan A was.

I am very happy with how plan B worked out (Williams+McNabb) but I am also curious to see how Bradford+the Shanahans would have worked for the next decade

Shanahan: Bradford "comes around once every 10 years"

Mike Shanahan is usually a master of the careful quote, heavy on words like "evaluate" (as in, "I'm going to get a chance to evaluate him here"), "competition" (most often used in training camp, i.e. "this is a competition"), and "scenarios" (as in, "There are a lot of things and scenarios").

So it was very surprising to hear his thoughts after Wednesday's practice on Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, who's played all of two NFL games.

"I've been watching him a lot through his collegiate career and in preseason games he went pretty good," the Redskins coach said. "He's very impressive. He's a guy that comes around once every 10 years in my opinion. He's that type of quarterback."

Wow, effusive praise from Shanny, lol. I'm sure that made Mcnabb feel all warm and fuzzy. :ols:

I guess there's little doubt now as to whether or not we wanted him. It just would've cost too much obviously, but I think we're all happy (well, maybe except Oldfan and ASF :pfft:) with who we've got manning that position right now, including Shanahan. :)

I've been paying close attention to Bradford all throughout preseason as well as his first two games and, I've got to say, I honestly believe he throws the most beautiful ball in the league. The way it comes out is amazing, so smooth and fast. I'm honestly not exaggerating, I catch myself saying "wow" almost every time he lets it go, especially on those quick slants and intermediate throws where you've got to fit the ball in a tight space.

He is gonna be a star looking at film from the first two weeks. He makes absolutely beautiful throws

Yup, totally agree. Once he "gets it", this kid as the potential to be one of the greatest. I just hope he doesn't get it for at least one more game. :)

Im sure he wanted Bradford, but I was always leary of the shoulder.. Having had seperated/dislocated shoulders numberous times, it's something that is easily reaggrivated. (Although I never had world class rehab, but just sayin) Im waitin for the kid to get broken, early in his NFL career.. (I dont wish that on him, just kinda expect it) Hell, especially if he'd become a Redskin.. lol

That's the biggest concern according to a very knowledgeable friend of mine.

Great passing, but he missed games due to hits common in the NFL.

I'm also torn between "don't wish injury on any player" and "Sic 'em Dirty Thirty"!

He is the best collegiate QB since Peyton to hit the NFL--no doubt about that. The kid is absolutely incredible.

In his very first game in the league, he was directing veterans on where they should be.

On one series alone, he handed the ball off the the RB, who ran about six yards and fumbled. Guess who was running right behind him to recover the fumble? Bradford.

On the very next play, he ran up to the line, and delivered a hard count, drawing the opposition offsides.

The kid is incredible. Wise well beyond his years. He challenges defenses.

In 4 years, I can't once remember JC giving a hard count to draw a team offsides. Let alone, in his very first NFL game.

He just operates at a different speed mentally than the rest of the players on the field.

We'll confuse him, by showing him defensive looks he hasn't seen before. We may even get a pick.

But watch when he gets to the line. There will be a very visible, one yard step back by every single defensive player on the field, as they try to figure out what in the hell he is thinking.

He really is that good.

Probably based on that fact. Do a search and you'll see there is already a thread on LJ being released

For future reference, if news is more then 3 minutes old, there is a thread on it :)

Its not even letting me get started. Has nothing to do with the subject.

Under my handle it says no new threads?

Fact of the matter is that 1st round QBs are always a gamble. Our recent history hasn't proven very favorable towards that. Bradford was the only good QB out of this draft and I would've been happy with him for the future, but McNabb is clearly proven and better now, and our OL was in complete shambles. Without getting the franchise LT that Trent Williams is seemingly on his way to becoming (personally had wanted Okung, but glad that Shanny's proven me wrong), whoever at QB would struggle.

Best thing to throw off young QBs is pressure. I expect to see Haslett dial up quite a few nice packages against his former team.

hes only top 5 in every single relevant QB stat so far this season. who wants him!?!?

2 games does not make a season. Cutler has played out of his mind so far behind a bad OL and no running game to support him. It's only a matter of time before Cutler pulls a Cutler. Against GB this Monday, I'm betting on 3 INT's. Matthews is going to hand him his lunch more than once.
