Pete
for stringing along the Bucs long enough for us to sign Spurrier. From a story on McKay

quote:
Yes, we’re hearing that Steve Spurrier was indeed interested in coaching Tampa Bay, preferring to stay in the Sunshine State, just as we suspected. Guest fuji869
Thank-you Coach Parcells, that makes up for all those three times you beat us in the 1986 Season. OK maybe not that extreme but it is appreciated, now you gave our old coach Norv Turner a chance at becoming a head coach again!
bulldog
what comes around, goes around..........the Bucs dissed Tony Dungy and dumped him out the back door like yesterday's newspaper even though he provided that pitiful franchise and fans with their only string of winning seasons since the late 1970's.

Dungy was in Tampa 5 or 6 years. This wasn' t a one year hire as with Marty in DC, where a disagreement over organization, sent a coach out after a brief stay in town.

Dungy did everything in Tampa. He changed the image of the team from a perennial cream puff to a hard-nosed defensive club that went to the playoffs. He insisted on drafting Warren Sapp when 9 other teams passed on him in the first round. He even changed their uniforms and helmets to get some better mojo with the Bucs.

In the end, Glazer put all his eggs in the basket of a 60+ year old Head Coach that had left the Jets a couple of years ago because he said his wife wanted him to stop being away from his family 9 months a year. Parcells is a great coach, but he is a roustabout. He doesn't stay in any one location very long.

And with his family pressuring him he ended up opting out.
Sarge
I think the Tuna might have been on retainer from Danny.
TennesseeCarl
Bill Parcells really hurt his image with football people. He knew the Bucs were jettisoning Dungy for him.

The consequences have been pretty amazing. We end up with Spurrier. The Colts (probably) will end up with Dungy, who should toughen their defense considerably.

The Bucs managment looks like a buncha yutzes and imagine how Keyshawn's gonna feel trying to walk back in that locker room? He'd been running his mouth about how Parcells wasn't gonna put up with the lax atmosphere and poor attitudes (namedly Warren Sapp) on the club.

If the Bucs end up with Norv Turner, I'm gonna bust a gut.

Is there any way we can start a 'Parcells to the Eagles' bandwagon?
Hangman55
Give synder credit.

Didn`t everyone think that Dan would can Marty and S.O.S. would go somewhere else,Leaving us to twist in the wind.

Low and behold the Glazer brothers(Norv would fit right in with those GEEKS!!)are now TWISTING!!!

Tampa.....how does that taste........ indyskinsfan
I concur! It's like the story of the dog that has a bone in his mouth, sees his reflection in the water and barks at his own image to get the other dog's bone. By opening his mouth he loses what he had and the image he got greedy for, was never really there.

Woof, woof!

[ January 20, 2002: Message edited by: indyskinsfan ]

TennesseeCarl
I suspect the Ravens feel much the same way, Indy, about dropping Dilfer and going after Grbac. Now they have difficult cap consequences and you've got an entire city that hates their starting QB.

The Ravens have got tough times ahead. And you've gotta hate that for them, since they've handled success with such grace and dignit...bwhaahahahaha...sorry, I couldn't make it through that.
