bulldog
He will play more games than that with some sensible protection packages on third down that don't involve leaving Trent Williams alone on the edge and Larry Johnson in the backfield to whiff in pass pro
KokoMike
The Redskins did a very stupid thing against Baltimore in allowing Suggs to rush one one one against Trent Williams and hit McNabb repeatedly in a meaningless preseason game.Protect the damn franchise quarterback with a TE or a back chipping on his way out into the flat. Seeing McNabb in that boot yesterday really made me angry. Everyone knew the Ravens were a borderline defensive team that liked to put a crown on people even in the preseason. To not game plan for that tendency was just plain stupidity. If someone wants to suggest that allowing Cooley or Davis to chip on Suggs somehow compromises the Redskins gameplan against the Dallas Cowboys, I think they are way off base. Dallas KNOWS Trent Williams is going to get help on passing downs against DeMarcus Ware, it's the only way for McNabb to stay alive for 4 quarters McNabb clearly saw that rush coming and for some odd reason left himself in a stiff position to easily get injured. He is lucky he didn't break his leg. He should have known better, IMO.

RandyHolt
is it really LJ's fault he is injury prone? He is going to take shots no matter how good our blitz pickups are. We picked up a guy thats injury prone, such is life.
FuriousD
The thing that suprises me is that McNabb and/or the Redskins didn't get him out of the game right after that hit. If I'm not mistaken, it happened around the end of the 1st, begining of the 2nd Qtr when he came up noticably limping and yet played on until the half. Looking back now, what was the point of that? He gained a quarter and lost a game. Maybe he would have lost a game anyway but that extra qtr of play gained nothing and only increased the risk and exacerbated the problem. Pointless! :helmet:

ddub52
I think that Shanny is happy to sit McNabb because he knows that the Jets will be bringing all the pressure while we keep it somewhat vanilla
GoDeep81
Im glad he's gonna be resting this week.. But it still doesnt excuse the fact that we pretty much ignored the risks that the Ravens D (blitz packages) presented, preseaon game or not.. Hopefully we dont make that mistake again.. redskins55
McNabb clearly saw that rush coming and for some odd reason left himself in a stiff position to easily get injured. He is lucky he didn't break his leg. He should have known better, IMO. Even though this is NOT the play he hurt his ankle on, we can still discuss it. McNabb saw the blitz but he assumed that LJ was going to pick up one of the blitzers. After LJ whiffed, McNabb tried to elude the blitzer by shrugging him off with his opposite shoulder to buy time in the pocket. It's his signature play and he is normally successful at it, but the guy grabbed him around the neck and yanked him forward. I think McNabb was instrumental in preventing the guy from breaking his leg, or even tearing his hamstring. If anything it should've been a penalty, but there was nothing more McNabb could've done besides just falling into a cradle position and giving himself up. And we all know the only QB in the league that can get away with that and not be criticized is Peyton Manning.
redskins55
People are missing the obvious point. McNabb not playing has nothing to do with the severity of the injury. Its just a precautionary measure to rest Donovan. McNabb is fine. He finished the entire second quarter vs the Ravens after suffering the sprain. He even eluded several rushers in the pocket by moving laterally and stepping up on the sore ankle with passes to Santana. So if it were that serious he wouldn't have been able to finish the half, nor maneuver in the pocket to make plays. Shanahan saying that McNabb wouldn't suite up even if this were a regular season game is simply "coach speak". If this were the regular season McNabb would be out there and flying around. Trust Me! Yea, but sprains dont show their full potential until 12-24 hours after the injury.. What was playable on Saturday could of been too stiff to even walk on Sunday morning.. But I agree, this particular ankle sprain doesnt appear to be a big deal.. Just sayin..

Oh your on the money there.. The ankle will hurt like #%$@#% the day after. But they heal with enough stability to play within a week. And there are so many therapy techniques that these pros have at their disposal to assist recovery time. C'mon, you would never see a normal person in a walking boot for a sprained ankle..lol I mean the normal recovery time for a typical sprained ankle is cut in half with the things they do for these athletes. Especially for a QB who doesn't have to run like a RB or WR.

MartinC
Greeeaaattt! Just what we need!! Relax. He has a sprained ankle not a ruptured MCL/ACL. He is going to miss a preseason game and will probably sit out the last game as well as the starters dont normally play that last game anyway. Some more live snaps to get deeper into the playbook would have been good but as long as he is 100% or close for the Dallas game its hardly the end of the world. The Tris
Mcnabb will play 12 game this year Who misses more games this season, McNabb or Haynesworth? . Cant wait for the 18 game schedule. Ah, gotta love the pro-18 gamers. No thought given to the fact that the stretch run of the season and the playoffs, so many starters will be incredibly beat up that playoff teams will be determined by subs. Yes, let's make the NFL even more a war of attrition, not skill. That will fix every thing. So long as fans get more games, owners get more concession and parking sales, screw the players, and the quality of play.
