Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb has been ruled out of Friday’s preseason game against the New York Jets because of a sprained left ankle.

McNabb has not practiced since being injured last Saturday against Baltimore.

“It’s still sore,” coach Mike Shanahan said after practice. “He’s walking on the treadmill. … There’s nothing you can do about it. Somebody sprains an ankle, they sprain an ankle. It’s quite sore. I don’t think he could go if it’s a regular season game.”

Rex Grossman is expected to start in McNabb’s stead, and his absence also opens up the possibility of Richard Bartel and John Beck seeing action.

I was fairly certain that we'd have to see Rex start a game or two this season so this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise in that he gets some solid time with the 1st team. Bummed though that we don't get to see what the starting offense has against a tough Jets D after they flamed out last week.

sit him for the next 2 weeks so he's fresh come Dallas.

Exactly. Preseason doesn't matter! We need everybody as healthy as possible when the games count. McNabb is a vet. He gets the system. He'll be fine. The Jets would have lit his behind up anyway. Watch what happens to Rex.

Donovan McNabb walking around with no wrap, no boot and his uniform pants for his Sunday Night Football shoot here at #Redskins Park.

Stop freaking guys, it really isn't as bad as people are making it out to be.
