Dub70s
Is it just me or does anyone else thinks that they stir up some of this controversy for news? I looked at the Haynesworth interview after the game and it seems as if they were pressing really hard for something to talk about. And with Zack Bolno getting fired, CSN and Washpost reporters seemed pretty upset on twitter yesterday. I feel like JLC has multiplied like a gremlin here in DC and NFL threw water on him by leaving (ok he really didn't leave he can report incorrect information nationally now). (I'm done ranting....I'm just irritated that the press is getting away with digging up controversy)

SkinsCrushCowboys
Even the worst reporter does not need to put forth much effort to find a story on yet another Haynesworth issue,,,,he is a reporters dream. Here a thought, keep your mouth shut as a player and give them nothing to talk about. Of course they are pressing him in interviews because they know evenutally he will be Albert Haynesworth and give them some stuff to write about. (I'm done ranting....I'm just irritated that the press is getting away with digging up controversy) I don't think they create it but the certainly are more then happy to spread the word ad nausem. Whenever they can they fan the flames. But, that's what they do....sports mediums know that people love drama more then their interested in actual football. Look at the false report of Favre retiring via text and the supposed press conference to follow; they took a story and ran with it. No apology, no mea culpa when it turns out they were wrong. Its not neccesarily their job to get the story right its their job to foment interest and create buzz so people will listen and hopefully care and watch. If they didn't do that they would actually be forced to report and give opinion/analysis of actual on the field football, X's and O's. But, just look at the majority of threads/post in this forum, if the media knew enough to speak intelligently about on the field football not many would care. A Walton
What is a DC media thing? You think if Fat Ass was playing in X city, the media wouldn't be killing him? Media digging up controversy? Come on bro, your homer glasses that thick?
@DCGoldPants
Not at all. The issues for the Washington Redskins the past decade have been created by their leadership.

Duckus
No. We are just overly sensitive in DC. In fact, for a city this big and having an NFL, MLB, NBA and a NHL team we have a tame media. NYC, Boston, Chicago, Philly, LA - their media is ruthless.
themurf
No, they're doing their jobs. There's a reason this thread is started this week and not last week. Media members can be an easy target, but, like Burgold said, they're simply doing their job. Skins21!
Jason LaCanfora should be banned from DC and I wish Comcast would get rid of Kelly Johnson. They are the most annoying reporters in the DC area.

Fifty Gut
if I was a player, I wouldn't talk to the media, ever. it's gotta be the most annoying part of their job. let your play speak for itself

The media must be lying. whatever

We'll in the 24 hour news cycle, I've seen reporters interview each other about oversensationlizing stories....no reason to think that DC sport media is any different. RFKFedEx
The media reports what people will find interesting. If a subject isn't interesting, then there isn't a story.
jnhay
Of course the media is to blame. They're doing their jobs, but if they decided not to, everything would be a lot calmer around here. This new Haynesworth disease stuff is a little over the top though. There has been no confirmation from the Redskins, but it's being reported as true on ESPN. I listend to 980 this morning to hear the sportcasters talk about not wanting to hear any about Haynesworth themselves....and in the next breath they bring up the illness issue for fans to call in about. Yeah, they basically say "I'm so tired of talking about Haynesworth, so lets talk about him for the next 20 minutes!"
Timmy Smith
Drama sells. Articles about Haynesworth's tweets get way more clicks than articles about some backup trying to make the team. The media is just trying to maximize its revenue, which is never going to change. The only solution is for the fans / readers to truly stop caring about it, by ignoring it. RFKFedEx
They complain and complain about the media, yet they continue to listen, watch, read. Many of Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh's most vocal critics were everyday listeners. They claimed to hate it, but they couldn't stop listening. jflow78
I actually think THIS time the media is on the team's side, just not AH's side (and he's proven he's not on the team's side either). Right now, the team and the media just happen to have a common enemy. I really don't think this is the media digging up controversy, I think this is life as usual with a big ******* crybaby like Haynesworth. Read Sally Jenkin's article at the WaPo, it's completely supportive of Shanahan and the team, and completely unsupportive of Albert, which is pretty much where I am at this point. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/22/AR2010082202581.html?sub=AR Pretty excellent article with some AWESOME tidbits about Mike Shanahan as a coach and a player and how he handles situations like these. It actually made me love our HC even more.
wilburmarshall
The media in general is just getting worse, because it is flooded w/ too many mediums, and they are all trying to get a story. Tweeting and blogging have really killed the craft of good reporting.
Kindred
cant argue with the fact that the whole - Coach called my condition a headache which made me look bad so therefore I'm upset and going to ***** about it today - phenomena might have been created by the media blowing up every little thing. If Haynesworth is standing in front of you and saying dumb things, would you cover your ears and walk away? Didn't think so. The exception, of course, is when JLC called the league offices and tried to get the Skins in trouble. That goes beyond normal reporting. But for the most part the media here is the same as it is on other towns. And while some of the criticism is unwarranted, enough of it is. Until this team becomes a consistent winner the media is going to slam on them.
