Butz65
Here's my selfish thinking: 1983 - best moments of my fandom life, 1987 - next best moment - watching Elway go from hero to goat as a bunch of no-names roll the Broncos, 1992 - watch the Skins snag #3 in college surrounded by Eagles fans still waiting for their first. All because of one coach who worked tirelessly, made sure his teams didn't miss a beat despite strikes, disgruntled stars, different QBs at various stages of their careers, undersized WR's........... Then comes Norv (don't even know what to say). At least the guy worked hard but always seemed to come up small when he needed to come up huge (sound familiar Chargers fans?). Marty - started slow but strong finish - Danny boy blew that one. Spurrier - the anti-Gibbs, stole money, should be in jail for the lack of effort he applied to my cherished franchise. Gibbs II - two playoff berths in four seasons - at least gave us some respectability and hope. Then Zorn (yes he had to deal with the worst of Vinny) but give me a break - let's play medium? maroon and black? The guy was lost from day one. Unfortunately he had some success early on, thought he could make it work. He's as much to blame for being run over by the front office as the front office was in running him over. Mr. Shanhan - please bring back the glory.
Redskins Anonymous
I also think it's kind of weird that we hired the first QB's to start for the Bucs and the Seahawks in 1976 to coach our team (spurrier / zorn). Future jeopardy question... So what is it about 1976 that influenced Dan so much?
MadMonkey
I agree with much of what you have to say Pitbull, especially the spirit of it. We should let bygones be bygones, and we should try not to disgrace ourselves by booing the man. However, I have to disagree with this part: Zorn was in a position to succeed. He inherited a playoff team from Joe Gibbs. The team he took over was 9-7 the previous year, and began his first season 6-2. It was under his tenure that they back-tracked. Do you truly believe that? Joe Gibbs wasn't undermined or called out on radio broadcasts like Zorn was when Cerrato was in office, also Zorn was put in a position to fail from the very beginning and was Cerrato's scapegoat. PCS
To many positive things going on in the Skins camp for us to boo this donk. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he tried his hardest Right there. Couldn't agree more. Life's too short for all the other stuff. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he tried his hardest Not even that...we are talking about a guy that didn't believe in game planning for what teams are going to do, because he felt his offense was good enough to work regardless of whatever the opponent do. And he has to be the only coach to participate in the "Mayne Event". Talk about a coach trying hard...
WSHRedskins3ATLBraves3
Zorn was just a classy guy that got abused by Vinny and Dan. He shouldn't be boo'ed nor should he be applauded.
Pitbull
Zorn was just a classy guy that got abused by Vinny and Dan.He shouldn't be boo'ed nor should he be applauded. see this is more of how I was feeling, though I wasnt impressed with him as a head coach, I was more impressed with the way he tried to stay classy through it all. So with all things consired during his tenure he shouldnt be boo'ed. Because he was the head coach and that was his offense, he shouldnt be applauded either. I agree totally
Jimbo
Zorn was just a classy guy that got abused by Vinny and Dan.He shouldn't be boo'ed nor should he be applauded. Totally agree. The guy was simply overmatched and made the mistake of trying to be Head Coach, QB Coach and Playcaller. I wouldn't boo him if I were there but I wouldn't applaud him either. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to anyone else booing him because he's now the enemy, just like Ray Lewis or Joe Flacco or anyone else associated with the Ravens. superozman
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! But then again i'm from Philly so technically i have to. He went 4-12 last year...he deserves a boo.
Butz65
Maybe it's because I've been in Philly for 15+ years but you guys are way too forgiving. Have our standards fallen that far? Zorn made more in his two years driving the ship askew than most of us will make in our lives yet you feel sorry for him? He needed to man up and decided not to. If he didn't want the front office dictating to him he should have turned down the job and the paycheck. Essentially he allowed Cerrato to publicly humiliate him by bringing in a bingo caller to run the offense so that he wouldn't have to give up his paycheck. He turned the Skins (with Cerrato's help) into a laughing stock last season and that's unfogivable. He lost all honor to me in that move. Cerrato wasn't any better - boo to them both. GoDeep81
He'll get booo'd.. (whether he deserves it or not..) Remember, it's Redskin country he's gonna be walkin back into!
CapsSkins
Honestly if I were the camera guys I wouldn't even put him on the big screen. Too many other things to watch out for/worry about during the game....the Zorn era is distant past.
Kindred
Kindred while I understand where you are coming from, I have to disagree.Zorn was already on the staff with the expectations of being an offensive coordinator. He already started developing relationships with the existing coaches, at the point in the offseason where he took over the team, most of the best available coaches that werent in the playoffs and Superbowl had already been taken by other new head coaches. Remember he wasnt hired until after the Superbowl that year. Shanny was hired days after Zorn's firing which was right after the season. No way Zorn had enough pull to make demands such as you suggest. I agree with another poster, I would believe that most position coaches and coordinators ultimate goal and dream is to be an NFL head coach. His pay and no other coaches pay is based on the success of the team, now in todays ecomony, if someone is offering millions of dollars to do something that you ultimately dream of doing are you going to turn it down? Zorn's biggest problem is that he didnt know what he could and could not do. He didnt know his limitations and tried to do it all and ended up failing miserably. Dukes and Skins
When I get there on Saturday I won't plan on booing him. He was a classy guy who had a tough situation and pretty much was tortured by Vinny and Danny. I'm sure he'll get booed though by many people there

Bubble Screen
Honestly I could care less about Zorny. some think he got a raw deal but the guy made a great deal of money wasting two more seasons of my life as a Skins fan. It was Snyder's fault for hiring him in the first place. He was in over his head as a head coach. But did you expect him to turn down the job? I have no ill will towards Zorn. But he's now in a coaching position where he belongs.
Timmy Smith
I developed a strange sort of Stockholm Syndrome with Jim Zorn, since Redskins Nation was VEHEMENTLY anti-Cerrato at the same time that Vinny was emasculating Zorn publicly. We all knew who the real bad guy was, even if Zorn was in over his head as an accidental head coach. He's back where he belongs, coaching NFL QBs, and we seem to be on firm footing again as a franchise. Life's too short to dwell on it any more than that. Quixote
Please, stay classy. He took a job for which he was under qualified. You'd do the same if--by contract--it made you a millionaire. When his bosses started realizing their mistake, they gave him hell. He was a dumb hire but that's hardly his fault. It saddens me to think our fan base, in anyway, resembles the idiocy and lowness of the iggles fan base. Ron Burgundy is watching your class. I don't understand the compassion for such a terrible coach. He put us through one of the worst seasons I've ever witnessed as a Redskins fan. Yes, Snyder/Cerrato hired him in the first place and I don't blame Zorn for taking the opportunity to try his hand at head coaching, but he made a lot of money in the process, I can't exactly make myself feel sorry for him. Zorn being such a loser may have been a blessing in disguise though, considering Snyder finally hired a real GM and a real head coach. But still, I don't have anything for Jim Zorn except hope that his QBs get sacked all game.
Redskins4ever
We can't blame Jim Zorn for what went wrong last season. Cerratto was to blame. They knew that when they hired him, Zorn wasn't qualified. And the way they did things- hiring offensive coordinators before a head coach was in place! It was a recipe for failure. As far as Zorn goes, he's a QB coach. Nothing more. But if he ever does get the chance to be a head coach in the NFL again, I hope he suceeds.
