Skin'emAlive
Not to mention he's playing for a NEW CONTRACT/EXTENSION. That is a good point. He might just bust his ass out there. Either way, i see him leaving the skins after this season.

Bigmuss1
Carter looked bad, if you saw the game, you could see Haslett on the sideline saying "what the *&%# is he doing?" "He's killing me!" Check it out. I hope they have a plan for this.

darrelgreenie
BTW, they have only played 1 game. We could all be worried for nothing. Exactly, actually they've played roughly 1 quarter in a pre-season game. If Carter is the weak link some consider him to be, it still remains to be seen wether teams will be able to exploit this weakness to effect the outcome of games. Here are some other 3-4 LOLB(according to SportingNews) Jets:Calvin Pace-265 Pats:Pierre Woods-250 Dolphins:Cameron Wake Ravens:Jarret Johnson Steelers:James Harrison Browns: David Bowens Chargers:Shaun Phillips Chiefs:Tamba Hali Broncos:Elvis Dumervil Cowboys:Anthony Spencer Green Bay:Clay Matthews 49ers:Manny Lawson Zona:Joey Porter (Didn't realize that there that many 3-4 teams) How many from that list can cover TEs? Shaun Phillips, Pierre Woods and maybe Clay Matthews?

How many yds did the Bills have at halftime?
Skin'emAlive
rocky will retire a redskin You know he held out this past offseason right? And the only reason why he didnt test the free agency was because of the uncapped deal and because we franchised him. He is playing to go somewhere else, and i cant blame him. Skin'emAlive
Jets: Vernon Gholston / Bryan Thomas Pats: Banta-Cain / Derrick Burgess Dolphins: Walden / Charlie Anderson ?? Ravens: Terrel Suggs Steelers:Larry Foote Browns: Void .... Browns suck. Chargers:Shaun Merriman Chiefs:Andy Studabaker / Mike Vrable ?? Broncos:Robert Ayers / Akin Ayodel Cowboys: Demarcus Ware Green Bay: Doesnt Matter because AJ Hawk and Nick Barnett are at ILB 49ers:Travis Laboy / Ahmad Brooks Zona:Haggans? Of these teams, a good bit of the rolb have ok coverage skills, and excellent containment skills. The browns suck, so i wont count them as a comparable 34. Dolphins, Chiefs, and Cards im confused as to what their situation is. Arizona had an ok defense last year. But i believe with the loss of kurt warner, that D is going to be on the field alot. Add to that the fact that an underrated Dansby is gone. That defense will fall this year. Broncos may be in trouble after Dumervil went down. The whole defense was built around him. Green bay has 3 stud lbs, negating the need for a great cover rolb. I like travis laboy. He has moxy to me. The Steelers have Dick Labeau. 'Nuff said there. The ravens are our most comparable defense. If we are to have a great defense, we will have to follow in their footsteps. Gregg = Kemo Ngata = Haynesworth Lewis = Fletcher Suggs = Orakpo The rest are average. and thats ok.We have better dbs in my opinion though. I feel like we are outclassed in each position matchup. ( although. i believe orakpo has the ability to grow into quite a specimen). The x-factor in this defense is the Safety as others have pointed out. Ed Reed is incredible. Landry... not so much. I have high hopes though. Without an Ed Reed back there, the lbs have to have much better coverage skills. This is our weak chink in our armor. We either need a better olb, or an all pro safety. FuriousD
Serious question here: One of the staples of the 3-4 is the zone blitz and what seems to make the 3-4 zone blitz so dangerous is the different combinations of who's coming and who's going. As part of this process, DE's are routinely dropping into coverage. So why is no one freaking about watching Golston, Daniels, Carriker or Jarmon playing the pass? Why is this all about Carter and the LB's? :helmet:
z0eboy
FuriousD.... you are light years ahead of... wait I don't want to insult anyone and would like to commend you on your well formulated thesis... Skin'emAlive
Well most DE coverages are very shallow zone coverages with an exception for Julius Peppers - who is a freak of nature. While we will exclusively play the 34 zone defense, with a heavy does of zone blitzing, this requires great containment from the lbs in case of a run. army_skins_fan
:helmet: Yes he is struggling, but he has come along way in a couple of weeks. I went out to training camp the first week and the LB's spent more time running in to each other than making tackles. We have to settle in to the new D scheme, but it is designed to always have someone covering your back. I think he is better suited as a situational player, but has the skills to get the job done! Jeff in D.C.
I agree that it looks like that OLB spot will be our weakness on defense. Carter didn't work out well at OLB in SF and that's how he ended up here. Carter is at his best when he can rush the passer. So having him drop back into coverage is not his strong suit. Maybe we can find an OLB after some cuts. We just need a stop gap this season because I agree with KDawg that we'll address OLB in the offseason. My first thought when Haslett was brought in and the switch to a 3-4 was made was how will AC fit in to the mix considering he didn't do well at OLB in San Fran. I know that AC doesn't fit the profile of a DE in a 3-4, but that may be the only way he can be used. Or just use him to rush on 3rd down. He's a beast of a pass rusher so I hope Haslett can find some creative ways to put him in good situations.
darrelgreenie
We should have a larger sample of plays to watch on Saturday. I was thinking of some things that we could collectively keep an eye out for to really figure this out: How many times Carter is in the game at LOLB total When he's in how many times does he set the edge vs blitz vs drops into coverage When he is in coverage how often is he in man to man vs zone (and wether he's in short zone or carrying receivers up field) How many times does he get beat/lost in coverage and how many times his man gets the ball Anything else?
