Of course, we also had fans hang a banner over a freeway in LA after we beat them in the WC of 2002 that read "Dear Mexico, now we're better than you at EVERYTHING". Assuming they, is the Mexican fans and ours is the USA national anthem. The Mexican fans were booing and jeering. Did not hear much from the USA fans during the Mexican national anthem. But honestly, I lost a lot of respect for Mexican soccer fans today. As soon as I entered the stadium, somebody grabbed my American flag from my hand at ripped it. During the American national anthem, everyone in the stadium was booing. I had planned to sit with my Mexican friends during the game but beer was being thrown at me even before the game began, so I went to the American section guarded by police. Everyone few minutes during the game, we would get beer or cups or food thrown at us, while people screamed #$%$ you (in both english and spanish) at us. They called me a stupid, white american #$%$ who should "go #$%$ myself. Imagine if this happened to Mexican fans in the US. What an outcry there would be. Then, when the USA scored, all 20 of us USA fans went nuts, as we were being pelted with beer, cups of pee, and all sorts of other things. Thankfully, the police were there in riot shields to block some of the bigger items. But then, after Howard made his great save, the crowd became even more rowdy and began circling the police trying to come after us. We didn't even get to see the end of the game, as (thankfully) the police led of out of the stadium to safety. Thanks to the Mexican police for helping us so much. But Mexican soccer fans who were at the Azteca, you should be ashamed of the way you treated us opposing fans today. Its time to show some respect. Its time to show some respect. sadly... this is how they watch soccer games in Latin America.... this treatment was not because you were american... this was because you were cheering for the opposing team... why do you think the Mexican police had a great plan on how to protect you guys and get you guys out of the stadium safe... These fans would have done the same against any other team as well.. it is not specific to USA... Which leds me to... There is no way that World Cup - Brazil is going to end without a major incident among the fans... I would not feel safe in the crowd if I was a fan of an opposing team that is facing off with a South American Team in Brazil... ---------- Post added August-16th-2012 at 05:22 PM ---------- Dont diminish this. This win was an epic win for the US and a travesty for Mexico. This we need to get over... I am exciting and it is historic as this is the first time that we were able to beat Mexico in Mexico but lets stay away from the words like epic to describe a friendly win. Ok great that Mexico had more of their regulars on the pitch than the American but so what... at the end of the day, this was a friendly. Beat them in one at Azteca and you might not make it back honestly. It's funny we're not considered a rabid fanbase in the world. I mean soccer has definitely grown in the US(Hell attendance for the MLS passed NBA last year). Maybe we're not considered a rabid fanbase because we don't feel the need to make people fear for their lives. US fans come to support their team. Mexico fans definitely have multiple motives. Walking to the stadium with my bro and my dad a group of about three douchebags start chanting something to the effect that Uruguay was going to "eat" the "national chili" and when I mean chant I mean walk up to and past us screaming it....no doubt what they were going for......Hey, I'm no diplomat but if I make eye contact with a rival fan I usually give a thumbs up and a "good luck." During the game they "showed off" their then new trick of screaming "puto" or "homo" every time the rival goalie kicks a goal kick....so pathetic. It's now as beloved a tradition as the insipid ******* Mexican wave. After Uruguay won the game the Mexican fans just started throwing beer bottles, grabbing themselves and flicking us off....complete trash. Leaving the stadium some kid wanted to exchange his counterfeit Mexican jersey with my Dad's official Uruguay kit, my pops kindly explained he didn't have another one....a third party (some drunk 20 year old punk) saw this and started going for my 60 year old Dad! I saw red and was ready to go, I got between this punk and my party and if it wasn't for my Dad telling me to calm down I would have ripped his ******* shirt off.....thankfully this coward backed off but kept barking until we reached security and the parking shuttles. In the shuttle this group of ******** started making lewd and loud comments about some girl in their immediate vicinity who was wearing a pair of tight jeans....a perfect cherry to top off this **** sundae. Got the win, nothing is sweeter. Lucky for him he went during a friendly. Go during a qualifier. Like I said if you see them during a qualifier you might honestly be murdered if we won there. I'm very serious. Being outnumbered to them means nothing but more people to try to get in a fight with. I love watching them walk away sad after we beat them here in qualifiers. Like I said though I fear for lives if US wins in Mexico during a qualifier. A SI reporter once said he one day believed US would win Mexico and it would be interesting how Mexicans reacted. My thought was- That's not interesting. That's a damn scary thought for the safety of our fans. Note also in qualifiers in Mexico you are outnumbered about 200 to 108,000 or so. They will literally throw whatever they can. The urine bombs,etc are not jokes. ESPN commentators saw it last night. They had to take cover. Well I am sure there are many reasonable fans in Latin America but the stories I have heard from my friends that have attend domestic league games in places like Argentina and Brazil tells me there are enough to warrant some, concerns for the World Cup. Even if these "hooligans" are the minority, now all of them travel more easily to these games in Brazil. It's like when they were so worried about the hooligans driving to Germany and starting up trouble there... With a coverage of only 8 million houses it's not going to really expand the popularity of those leagues. If the Premiership went that route it would be foolish. Coverage is picking up in the States as is popularity. Stinks that the Championship (was hoping to potentially stream a match or two this year with Rovers in that league now) went that route, but this is probably a better tv deal for them then what they had before I would imagine. He's the go between for the owners and the club, technically he's the one running the club now. He used to be a player for Malaysia and a pundit over that way. I've heard from many different folks that he's a horrible talking head. However, for the most part, so far he's done ok. He's been in charge of the transfer policy (and it's been decent I have to say so far) and he can fire Kean. I think he really wants to but the owners aren't letting him which is why he said what he did. He's since apologized. The good news is that there's someone to actually talk to now at the club, but he may wear his heart on his sleeve a little too much. Still, the jury's out on this guy in my opinion. I gave the owners the benefit of the doubt until the January transfer window and now they need to win me over (same with Kean.) Obviously, in principle, I agree about Kean. Not so much about Pedersen. I don't know why Pedersen has been getting so much flack when he's one of the few players to openly come out and say he's fully committed to Rovers, plus I think he will do a fine job in the Championship. He has been a bit of a 'slump' the last year or two, but not as bad as some have made it out to be. Shouldn't have said it publicly against either one. Kean's already moaning and saying stuff to the effect that there's a mini rift in the organization now. I really don't like Kean. It's getting worse every time I see or hear him.
