Former Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder, the first black to be elected governor, is calling for President Barack Obama to sack Biden and make Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton his running mate in 2012. The Democrat wrote Monday in a highly critical Politico column that the move would help win over working-class and middle-class independent voters who have grown distant from Obama. Wilder, who supported Obama over Clinton in 2008, says Clinton is better suited as a political and governing partner for Obama and that Biden hasn't distinguished himself except with gaffes. "I realize many say that he brings some more humanity to this administration," Wilder wrote of Biden. "But there are too many YouTube moments." Duckus
I think it is pretty obviously that Biden won't be on the ticket in 2012. I don't mind him though, he honestly has always come across as a really nice guy to me. But he does not bring anything to the table in 2012. In 2008 he had a purpose, in 2012 they will be looking for something else. I would be surprised if it was not a woman. Not sure it will be HRC though. DjTj
What makes it obvious? I would be shocked if he wasn't on the ticket. You still have to put the money on Biden, but they could definitely switch to a President-in-waiting to set things up for 2016.I think it is pretty obviously that Biden won't be on the ticket in 2012. I don't mind him though, he honestly has always come across as a really nice guy to me. But he does not bring anything to the table in 2012.A VP is not going to make much difference in a reelection race. Cheney was probably a negative for Bush in 2004, but it didn't really matter. In 2008 he had a purpose, in 2012 they will be looking for something else. I would be surprised if it was not a woman. Not sure it will be HRC though.Janet Napolitano or Blanche Lincoln or Mary Landrieu could be options. There are plenty of other choices too: Mark Warner or Tim Kaine, Sherrod Brown or Ken Salazar. If it were announced that Biden wasn't going to be running, the subsequent decision would definitely generate a lot of buzz ...

Madison Redskin
I've never liked Biden. He's brash, doesn't censor what comes out of his mouth, and I don't think he's that intelligent. I still don't know why Obama picked him.

I think Biden will have "health issues" and "want to be with his family."

I still don't know why Obama picked him. President Obama was getting attacked for not having enough foreign policy experience. Thus, the selection of Joe Biden. Bang
Aside from a few feet in his mouth, what has he done so bad? He's the VP for pete's sake,, some foreign dignitary will die and we need someone to go to the funeral! ~Bang
mjah
Isn't this exactly the same conversation that happens before every reelection campaign? If ever there was a VP -- since Agnew, anyway -- who should have been dumped, it was Cheney. Quayle would have been another good dump decision. But VP picks don't have anywhere near the impact people expect them to (bobblehead frontier-ideologues possibly excluded), so it's not worth the negative buzz to dump them. You don't get enough in return. I could see Hillary getting the VP nod if and only if she was a dire threat in the 2012 primary. But as Secretary of State she's positioned horribly for that: she can't go after Obama on foreign affairs for obvious reasons, and she really can't attack him effectively on the domestic front given that (among other accomplishments) he has achieved the monumental health care milestone that she's blamed for screwing up years ago. So I'd be shocked to see her in the VP slot -- or anyone other than Biden, really.
Nickclone
I don't think most people understand the role of VP, he's supposed to be the second banana (obviously). So if Biden is only in the news for a few gaffes, than he's doing his job.
