BurgundyBlog
can't see this dramatically affecting the season, but it's another low-profile move by shanny and bruce that makes a lot of sense: a roster-longshot corner to a DB-needy team in exchange for an unproven but high-ceiling QB to provide competition for mediocre backups. string a few of these moves together and all of a sudden you're a well-rounded team... imagine that! skins island connection
This logic doesn't make sense to me, man. Simply because Colt has been here for years doesn't mean he's any better than Grossman. You forget that he was almost cut last year but was placed on the DL instead.Colt hasn't done anything to warrant people believing he's better than Grossman. If he outperforms him, then great... Keep him. But he hasn't proven anything in a game situation. And while some will argue that the Bears got to the Super Bowl in spite of Grossman (I'd agree) at least he's been there and had bright spots in game. I'm not a Grossman fan, but believing that Brennan is better than him at this point is a little goofy. He may be, but we don't know that... And anytime you have a vet who started for a few years versus a guy who hasn't proven anything... The vet generally gets the nod. Especially when the vet knows the system. I see your angle, and I do agree to an extent, but; for Grossman, knowing the system and executing it are 2 different things. Maybe this is Colt's issue as well, but I just don't see Grossman doing the team any favors , but he seems like damaged goods to me...
McD5
You don't think it's possible that neither player is very good? JC? We already know the answer to that. Colt? No. I believe he is very good. And without Zorn nearby to kill the guy's talent, I believe he will do well. The big key was getting "the QB expert" Zorn as far away from our QBs as possible. Now let's see what he's got. Rdskn4Lyf21
From what I saw of him in Miami, Beck was pretty average.

However... Couldn't it be said that Colt is damaged goods as well who has never proven anything and is still new to the system? Seems like Colt has more knocks than Grossman does... Whether those knocks are his fault or not...

McD5
Yeah, but a lot of us also didn't like Ladell Betts. So we were right there. Even more proof that 95% of posters couldn't see talent if it ran into them. The herd is almost always incorrect. Colt is likely no different. For 10 years, we have seen posters getting excited, cursing the media, etc. And for 10 years, they have all been wrong. The problem is, we are on a board where a majority of fans, especially the younger ones, have never seen good football. So they have no idea what it even looks like. And their posts have represented that. Now with Shanahan and Allen, we are seeing good football.

That leaves 1 spot (IF THAT) for bartel, beck and colt......... my guess... Bye bye Colt and Bartel

mistahsmif
I had never heard of Doug Dutch until I saw him at the Easter Egg Roll at the White House. They gave him a fitted jersey and it was about 3 sizes too small. Chris Horton and Derrick Dockery were laughing at him...

That leaves 1 spot (IF THAT) for bartel, beck and colt......... my guess... Bye bye Colt and Bartel Shanny likes interceptions almost as much as he likes fumbles.....unfortunnately for the back ups this may spell the beginning of the end. My guess is that he keeps 3 QB's only if one really impresses him, which to this point does not look likely.
tshile
IMO, Grossman should be the one on the hot seat; why he was brought here in the first place is a mystery to me, he's a fumbling, intercepting machine, maybe some have forgotten his skills on the field, having 1 good game and 4 bad ones.Keep Brennan, so they do not have to change the name to "the Cut of Colt"... That perfectly describes Grossman when he was wearing a bears uniform. I'm convinced the issue was the Bears - not grossman. For proof just see Jay Culter vs Orten. They switched teams, and they switched stats - what's in common? They both sucked with the Bears they bot played well with the Broncos. Kyle obviously saw something in Grossman in Houston last year - thats the only reason he's here. I'll put my faith in Kyle Shanhan and chop off the performance to being related to being on the Bears until proven otherwise. I think the evidence is currently in favor of that. The Tris
THANK GOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone but Gross-Man and Colt as our #2... It would be pretty shocking if Rex wasn't the back up. He's accomplished 100x what Beck has, and knows the offense. Seems to me this is a flyer on a long term QB project, which as repeatedly stated, does not bode well for our other long term raw QB projects. rick7423
via CSNThe Redskins now have five quarterbacks on their training camp roster after acquiring John Beck from the Baltimore Ravens for cornerback Doug Dutch. Beck, 28, played at BYU and was originally a second-round draft pick by Miami. He started four games for the Dolphins in 2007, but has not played a snap in the last two years. ... Beck (6-2, 215) was fourth on the Ravens' depth chart behind Joe Flacco, Marc Bulger and Troy Smith. For the Dolphins three years ago, Beck was 0-4 as the starter (the team finished 1-15) and he was 60-of-107 passing for 559 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. We must really suck at the QB spot to pick up this guy.
MattFancy
there is knowing the offense and there is sucking in the offense you are SUPPOSED to know...Gross-Man is #2 I haven't seen anything that says he sucks in the offense. I doubt the Shanahan's would've brought him in if they didn't think he could cut it.
tshile
Also, I'd chill on the 'bye bye colt' stuff. We traded a guy who was likely to not make the team (dutch) for what we think may be a 3rd string QB. If we cut Beck after trading for him we've lost nothing. We're deep on safties and corners right now - there's no chance Dutch makes the team. Might as well see if we can get someone who has a shot at making the team instead of wasting everyone's time. There'd be nothing lost in keeping Brenan and cutting Beck. But there's potential to gain if Shanahan like Beck.
clskinsfan
I dont really get it? Mcnabb says he wants to play at least 4 more seasons. Beck is 29. He is to old to groom at this point. Grossman has looked very good in camp so far. So I guess we are going to carry 3 QB's after all. I was hoping to carry 2 and an extra WR or LB. darklight1216
We must really suck at the QB spot to pick up this guy. He's not likely to compete for anything better than 3rd. How many third string qbs are amazing?
