Latest on Brian Westbrook?

He wants more money then we have offered. Also i think he wants to be in a better situation. He keeps talking about playing for a team that can make the super bowl this year.

He wants more guaranteed money than offered. The Redskins want him to have to make the team in order for him to get paid.

Sounds to me like he's holding out for more money than Allen is willing to pay.

So if an RB goes down somewhere in the league, maybe he'll get what he's looking for.

Moreno and Buckhalter just went down in Denver training camp. Moreno on a cart.

And they traded away JJ Arrington to the Eagles.

Westbrook wants to be the clear #2 back in camp with a chance to move back to a #1 spot given performance on his part or an injury to the starter. The Redskins have too many backs here to guarantee Westbrook that is going to happen in 2010.

Evidently, Larry Johnson looks good enough that he is scaring off other backs that think they might be able to come in here and be in the mix with Portis to be a regular contributor.

For the Redskins that's not an entirely bad thing :)

Apples and oranges.

Westbrook and Johnson have polar opposite skill sets, so I'd have to imagine that regardless of whether or not LJ was here, Westbrook would get the same amount of reps.

Parker is the variable here and if it came down to Parker versus Westbrook, the latter would easily win the job given his pass-catching ability.

As it stands, I see no reason that we wouldn't carry four runningbacks. This is Mike Shanahan we're talking about after all...

Westbrook and Johnson are not the same player, but the presence of Johnson on the roster as a veteran limits what type of $$ the Redskins are going to offer Westbrook for a part-time role.

He hopes to earn more by coming into a situation where there is no established back behind the starter and where he can move into a role where he gets more reps and can earn some attainable incentives :)

I agree to an extent, but almost none of LJ's contract is guaranteed; if we felt he wasn't worth 3/$12, we could release him at any time no problem and Ryan Torain could step in as our "power back".

I guess we'll just have to wait it out and see how Shanny/Turner assess the backfield.

Personally, I'd like CP, LJ, BW and RT.... but we'll see :)

CBuck only has a strained upper back and they haven't even released the results of Moreno's MRI yet. That's jumping the gun a bit.

The latest is that Moreno has a severely pulled, but not torn, hamstring.

They say that he'll be ready for week 1, but caution that hamstrings can be tricky.

Beyond Knowshon and Buckhalter, the runningbacks on Denver's roster are putrid, but I'm not sure that signing a guy like Westbrook would solve that problem. He should go somewhere as a pass-catcher/3rd down back (here :)) as opposed to somewhere where he'd be featured heavily. Even if it is only for a week or two.

Besides, we still have more money, a better shot at winning, his brother and his best friend...

I still say he comes here.

We need to get Westbrook in D.C ASAP. What happens if Clinton still cant take a run to the house like in the past seasons with the skins? LJ and RT dont seem like speedsters either and this is where westbrook beats them all as well with his pass catching ability. I really think he could be an important part of our offense.

We need to discover our very own Westbrook type player instead of getting players on the downside of their career.

Easier said than done. Those type of players are usually taken in the draft after a team has the luxury of doing so. Skins are a few good drafts away from doing that kind of greed over need drafting.

Denver was a middle of the pack team in rushing attempts last year, so they aren't heavily run dependent as teams such as the Jets or the Panthers are. Even if Moreno is out for a regular season game or two, it shouldn't be panic time in Denver. The E&P system can use certain pass plays as a substitution for runs, as the Patriots have shown in recent years.
