Redskins 0-0, Time for Fans to Seek Out Counseling........

the fatalism of some fans on this board has reached an unprecedented level, even for a town like DC where impending doom is usually judged to be right around the corner. cross.gif

unless I missed something along the way a few poor years under Norv (8-7-1, 9-7, 10-6 and 8-8 are poor for US I admit but would have been welcome in Cincy or AZ) doesn't make this the Boston Red Sox, who have been "cursed" since 1917.

Because the team is in transition and not likely to make the Super Bowl in the first year of a new regime does not make Marty a failure. Or mean that the steps that are being taken won't have a payoff.

But if you were waiting for a 13-3 team to show up and revenge the public failure of 2000 then you were just a victim of your own

wishful thinking.

Now, just ease on back on the couch and tell Dr. FeelGood everything. Only by identifying and then examining our problems can we make progress..........biggrin.gif

I must admit Bulldog, right now I have a very uneasy feeling in my stomach concerning the Skins. I maintain all the faith in the world in Marty. But you hit the nail on the head saying this is a transition season for the Skins. Marty still doesent't have everybody around him that he wants. This might take a couple of seasons until all the pieces are in place for a run at the title. My hope is that we get healthy before the opener. We must have Sammuals back at LT. With Sammuals, Szott, Raymer, Campbell, and Jansen up front we are OK. It might take a while to jell, but this group should be solid. Bruce Smith must return and play at a high level. At age 38 this is a big question. How much does Bruce have left? I look for the Skins to be scanning the waiver wire on Monday to add some much needed depth along the DL. Right now we have alot of question marks but I feel by Sept.9th the Skins will look much different than the team we have seen in the exibition games. Marty has more up his sleeve then he is showing. He's been at it too long to tip his hat, especially with good old Norv waiting for revenge on his old club.

Good point Bulldog. Past failures and disappointments have not made us as optimistic as in past seasons. You are correct the Skins are 0-0 and anything is possible we will have to just see what happens so BRING ON THE 2001 SEASON AND HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

Yes "Waiting to Exhale" had it's moments, but wasn't that a "regular season" last year?

I don't recall jack about the premmies last year.

Hey I have a solution so they will have some consolation.

Some of the TOP preseason teams qualified for first shot at number one draft picks in the top 10 , not by trade.

Even if they couldn't pick, they would have qualified for the top spots smile.gif

Now get this: If their coaches will get credit for their "miraculous" turnaround in the preseason, it would make sports history for all of them to be in the same sport, in the same year. That would make Campo, Reeves, and the like, downright geniuses and perhaps the greatest of all time.

I will not be devestated should we not have a winning season, but looking forward to football season as much as most of us on this board do, well it makes it tough to wait all that time for the team to play bad. Still, I believe in Marty. I think he will continue to right the ship, and if we need to take a step back to move forward, so be it.

I will be willing to bet we will get as far or farther into the playoffs within 3/4 years under Marty than we ever did under Norv.

Brave, you can say that again man. I didn't even stop to think we can actually play spoiler too, which is an added incentive, since we aren't given a decent chance. smile.gif

We as Skins fans know that anything with fight in the dog, is better than the Norval Wonder Years.

NEWSFLASH!!

No Coach will go 4 for 4 in superBowl appearances especially in their first four years coaching a team in need of a lil overhaul.

We will be competitive there will be postseason opportunities but lets not be unrealistic

I also have faith in Marty, and won't be crushed if we don't have a winning season. Not to say I won't be unhappy, but as many on this board, I'm use to it to some extent. It's not often I agree with Joe T, but in an interview on the radio last week (syndicated show)to promote the revised virsion of "The complete idots guide to football", Joe said he would consider Marty sucessful if the team went 8 & 8, and I have to agree. I do hope for better, and lord knows, it wouldn't be the first time Joe was wrong.

The 3 P's for me this season

Two things....

I am still expecting a 10-6 season but wouldn't be surprised with a 9-7 or 8-8. Marty was not brought in to win the Superbowl this year. he may say so, other may say so, but Marty is here to build a consistent winner and tear down the Turner system and bring in a new fresh look, once maximizing discipline and attention to detail. With the cap problems this team had, Marty has begun the recovery. Marty is an excellent coach. Marty knows football. But, Marty is not God and after seven years of a failed regime, it will take a season or tow to rebuild and bring in the exact mix you need to implement your game plan.

Two, I though this board was Redskins Counseling laugh.gif

I'm just glad that our man Bulldog has counted to ten, taken a deep breath or two, and stepped back into the light.

Those first couple of days after the KC game ... I was getting a little worried that one of our leading citizen warriors was going over to the Dark Side. smile.gif

Redskins fans might need counseling???

I dunno Bulldog, We've just emerged into the sunlight after 7 long years of the Norv nightmare. During that time, if the team didn't drive you over the edge, then nothing that's going on now should phase anybody.

*

I've been watching pro football for over 30 years now, and with all the players, coaches, teams, changes to and in the media, and all the different fans, there has been one constant - folks reading far more into pre-season than is actually there.

Every spring, folks are living and dying with every tidbit of info, every nice play, every nagging injury, every nuance that might indicate a run for the show or a high pick in the next draft.

No, OM. Actually after the KC game what got me po'ed was the lack of effort I saw on the field. For the most part against Atlanta and Cleveland the players were giving effort and we were coming up short in some cases because of a lack of talent among the backups and in others because of injuries to the projected starters.

Bulldogger,

As a loyal Red Sox fan of more than 30 years, I must object to the falsity of your statements. We have been cursed since 1918, when we won our 5th and last World Series, not 1917.
